Short Communication: Crystal Structure of a Molecular Complex from Native β-Cyclodextrin and Copper(II) Chloride

Reaction of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) with CuCl₂ in neutral aqueous solutions gave a stable molecular complex without any side-arm support. The X-ray crystallographic analysis clarified that the copper ion was located at the bottom of the primary-hydroxy side as a CuCl₂(H₂O)₂ form. Hydrogen bonds were found between the Cl and H₂O ligands and β-CD hydroxy and ether groups. The copper ion is axially coordinated with a hydroxy group of a neighboring β-CD molecule, giving a one-dimensional β-CD/CuCl₂ array.     

Direct Asymmetric α-Selective Mannich Reaction of β,γ-Unsaturated Ketones with Cyclic α-Imino Ester: Divergent Synthesis of Cyclocanaline and Tetrahydro Pyridazinone Derivatives

The first regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselective direct Mannich reaction of β,γ,-unsaturated ketones with benzoxazinone cyclic imines was enabled by Lewis acid/Brønsted base cooperative catalysis. The dinuclear zinc complex catalyzed the reaction of a broad range of β,γ-unsaturated ketones to proceed at the α-site exclusively, leading to corresponding adducts with two consecutive tertiary carbon stereocenters in diastereomeric ratios of up to >20:1 and enantioselectivities generally in the 90–99 % ee range. These products were used as general intermediates in the synthesis of multisubstituted cyclocanalines, tetrahydro pyridazinones, and 4H-furo[2,3-b][1,4]benzoxazine derivatives.     

Rhodium-Catalyzed Addition of Aryl Boronic Acids to 2,2-Disubstituted Malononitriles

β-Ketonitriles bearing a quaternary carbon at the 2-position were prepared through Rh-catalyzed addition of aryl boronic acids to 2,2-disubstituted malononitriles. In contrast to the previously described transnitrilative cyanation of aryl boronic acids with dialkylmalononitriles, the present reaction avoids retro-Thorpe collapse of the intermediate addition product through the use of a milder base. The reaction was amenable to a variety of aryl boronic acids and disubstituted malononitriles, providing a diverse array of β-ketonitriles. The products could be further derivatized to valuable chiral α,α-disubstituted-β-aminonitriles through addition reactions to the corresponding N-tert-butanesulfinyl imines.     

A Direct Spectrofloorimetric Method for the Determination of B-Naphthoxyacetic Acid Residues in Strawberries

Abstract

β-naphthoxyacetic acid (NOA) residues in strawberries have been determined in acetone extracts using direct, first and second derivatives with spectrofluorimetric detection, without clean-up procedures needed. Solvent effects on the spectral characteristics of NOA solutions and their influences on the sensitivity of its variables and instrumental parameters are also studied. A detection limit of 1.14 ng/ml was achieved using the first derivative approach. Strawberries were fortified at different NOA concentrations (10 to 90 ng/ml). Recoveries averaged 87.2% (range 80.16–98.53) at the lower fortification level and 98.36% (range 97.54–99.63) for the higher fortification level.     

H-β-zeolite catalyzed synthesis of β-bromostyrenes from styrene bromohydrins

Synthesis of β-bromostyrenes from styrene bromohydrins using H-β-zeolite as catalyst under moderate conditions is reported. The catalyst could be regenerated and reused up to three consecutive cycles.

Stereoselective Synthesis of Alkenyl Alcohols Using Dissolving Metal (Ca,Na) Reduction

Use of the calcium-ethylenediamine and sodium-liquid ammonia reduction systems for the ring opening of dihydropyran derivatives was studied. (Z)-Alkenyl alcohols and (E)-alkenyl alcohols were stereoselectively synthesized respectively.     

A Novel Synthesis of α-Tellanyl α,β-Unsaturated Aldehydes Using α-Tellanyl β-Alkoxyalkenyl Lithiums

Abstract

β-Ethoxy-α-phenyltellanylvinyl lithiums were successfully generated in situ from phenyltellanylacetaldehyde diethyl acetal with lithium 2,2,6,6-tetrame-thylpiperidide (LTMP) and underwent methylation or nucleophilic addition with aldehydes and ketones. The successive dehydration of the allylic alcohols with trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TMSOTf) gave α-phenyltellanyl α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, which transformed to some useful compounds.     

Conformational and Electronic Interaction Studies of Some β-Ketosulfoxides

ABSTRACT.

The analysis of the carbonyl I.R. band and the U.V. phoelectron spectroscopic data along with the ab-initio calculations and X-ray diffraction of α-(methylsulfinyl)- and α-(phenylsulfinyl)-acetophenones indicated the predominance of the cis rotamers over the qauche ones.
