We derive an expression for the resultant spectral density (spectrum) at a point in the far zone for the surface plasmons modulated Young's double-slit interference setup. The resultant spectral interference law has the same form as the standard spectral interference law for the scalar fields. This resemblance in turn provides a means for determination of the modified spectral degree of coherence at the two slits. The mathematical results also show that in an interesting situation when the field is incident at one slit only, the interference can still be observed at the observation plane. These findings are verified theoretically using a wide-band source, i.e. a black-body, having a spectrum following Planck's radiation law. 相似文献

New expressions are derived that predict the change of spectral density, the spectral degree of coherence and spectral degree of polarization in Young’s interference pattern when the pinholes are illuminated by an electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-mode beam. The spectral degree of polarization in the observation plane is found, in general, to take on values different from its values at each pinhole, and it changes with position at the same spatial frequency, as does the spectral density. When the light at the pinholes is completely coherent, there are singular points in the pattern, at which the spectral degree of polarization reaches minimum value. 相似文献

The rationalizability of a choice function on an arbitrary domain under various coherence properties has received a considerable
amount of attention both in the long-established and in the recent literature. Because domain closedness conditions play an
important role in much of rational choice theory, we examine the consequences of these requirements on the logical relationships
among different versions of rationalizability. It turns out that closedness under intersection does not lead to any results
differing from those obtained on arbitrary domains. In contrast, closedness under union allows us to prove an additional implication.

In this paper, we revisit the problem of quantum entanglement in an
oscillating macroscopic mirror previously studied by Marshall et al. consisting
of a modified Michelson interferometer where one of the mirrors is free to
oscillate about its center of mass. A photon incident upon the oscillating
mirror becomes entangled with the mirror, driving the mirror into a
superposition of quantum states. Once the photon and mirror decouple, the
mirror returns to its initial state. The purpose of our investigations was
to optimize the parameter regime, taking into consideration the current
state of technology and the demands imposed by the need to maintain a stable
environment in the presence of thermal noise. Optimization should not demand
ultra-low temperatures and this is reflected in our results. Our results also
show that if the separation between states is maintained at 10-14 m, the mirror size is reduced, making it easier to induce superposition in
the mirror. The critical nature of mirror reflectivity and its connection to
cavity decay rate was also revealed by our investigations. The results
obtained through our investigations could be useful in quantum error
correction, where decoherence negatively affects the results of computations
performed by quantum computers. Finally, we note that we are only concerned
with an isolated system, where no losses to the external environment occur
and any decoherence that occurs within the system remains internal to the
system; that is, any mention of decoherence refers specifically to

A coherent presentation of an n-category is a presentation by generators, relations and relations among relations. Confluent and terminating rewriting systems generate coherent presentations, whose relations among relations are defined by confluence diagrams of critical branchings. This article introduces a procedure to compute coherent presentations when the rewrite relations are defined modulo a set of axioms. Our coherence results are formulated using the structure of n-categories enriched in double groupoids, whose horizontal cells represent rewriting paths, vertical cells represent the congruence generated by the axioms and square cells represent coherence cells induced by diagrams of confluence modulo. We illustrate our constructions on rewriting systems modulo commutation relations in commutative monoids, isotopy relations in pivotal monoidal categories, and inverse relations in groups. 相似文献
