On the Schrödinger Equation with Potentials which are Laplace Transforms of Measures

We construct a pointwise solution for the time dependent Schrödinger equation on R^d with potentials and initial conditions which can grow exponentially at infinity and belong to the class of smooth Laplace transforms of complex measures on R^d. The methods used are both analytic and probabilistic and the result can be looked upon as an extension of rigorously defined Feynman path integrals to the case of potentials which can strongly grow at infinity. An appendix with the calculation of some Wiener integrals is also presented.     

Startup of superheavy element chemistry at RIKEN

A review is given on the startup of the superheavy element (SHE) chemistry at RIKEN. A gas-jet transport system for the SHE chemistry has been coupled to the gas-filled recoil ion separator GARIS at the RIKEN Linear Accelerator. The performance of the system was appraised using ²⁰⁶Fr and ²⁴⁵Fm produced in the ¹⁶⁹Tm (⁴⁰Ar, 3n) ²⁰⁶Fr and ²⁰⁸Pb (⁴⁰Ar, 3n) ²⁴⁵Fm reactions, respectively. The α particles of ²⁰⁶Fr and ²⁴⁵Fm separated with GARIS and transported by the gas-jet were identified with a rotating wheel system for α spectrometry under desired low background condition. The high gas-jet efficiencies over 80% were independent of the beam intensities up to 2 particle μA. A gas-jet coupled target system for the production of SHEs was also installed on the beam line of the RIKEN K70 AVF cyclotron. The gas-jet transport of ²⁵⁵No and ²⁶¹Rf produced in the ²³⁸U (²²Ne, 5n) ²⁵⁵No and ²⁴⁸Cm (¹⁸O, 5n) ²⁶¹Rf reactions, respectively, was conducted for the future chemical studies of ²⁶⁵Sg via the ²⁴⁸Cm (²²Ne, 5n) ²⁶⁵Sg reaction.     

EC and α decays of 235Am

EC and decays of ²³⁵Am have been studied using a gas-jet coupled on-line isotope separator. Excited states in ²³⁵Pu have been established for the first time by means of -ray spectroscopy following the EC decay of ²³⁵Am. The deduced log ft value suggests that the ground state of ²³⁵Am should have the 5/2^-[523] configuration. The - coincidence result has revealed that the 5/2^-[523] state in ²³¹Np populated by the favored transition of ²³⁵Am is located at < 15 keV, which allows us to precisely determine the Q value of ²³⁵Am.     

Identification of the new isotope 241Bk

A new neutron-deficient berkelium isotope ²⁴¹Bk produced in the ²³⁹Pu(⁶Li, 4n) reaction has been identified using a gas-jet coupled on-line isotope separator. Cm K and L X-rays associated with the EC decay of ²⁴¹Bk were observed in the mass-241 fraction, and three γ transitions were attributed to the EC decay of ²⁴¹Bk through X-γ coincidences. The half-life of ²⁴¹Bk was determined to be 4.6±0.4 min which is 1/2-1/4 of that of theoretical predictions. The half-life value and the observed γ transitions can be consistently explained as a consequence of the allowed EC transition of π7/2⁺[633] → ν7/2⁺[624]. Measurements of B decays to two kaons

We report measurements of B meson decays to two kaons using 253 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+ e- collider. We find evidence for signals in B+ --> K0 K+ and B0 --> K0 K0 with significances of 3.0sigma and 3.5sigma, respectively. (Charge-conjugate modes are included.) The corresponding branching fractions are measured to be [symbol: see text](B+ --> K0 K+) = (1.0 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.1) x 10(-6) and [symbol: see text](B0 --> K0 K0) = (0.8 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.1) x 10(-6). These decay modes are examples of hadronic bd transitions. No signal is observed in the decay B0 --> K+ K-, and we set an upper limit of 3.7 x 10(-7) at 90% confidence level.     

Chemical separation of the unknown isotope 252Bk

Rapid chemical separation of berkelium is essential in order to measure the unknown isotope ²⁵²Bk. An anion exchange system of mineral acid and methanol was examined. An elution curve of Bk was obtained using ²⁵⁰Bk produced by the ²⁴⁸Cm+¹⁸O system and the ²⁵¹Bk activity could be measured in the preliminary experiments. The whole chemical separation was completed within 30 minutes.     

Functional representations of conformally invariant free fields

Free fields in two-dimensional space-time are considered from the point of view of representation theory. Unitary representations of the conformal group are constructed in the representation space of equal-time commutation relations. The compatibility of the global conformal transformations with locality is discussed.     

Observation of B+-->LambdaLambdaK+

We report the first observation of the charmless hyperonic B decay, B+-->LambdaLambdaK+, using a 140 fb(-1) data sample recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB (e+)(e-) collider. The measured branching fraction is B(B+-->LambdaLambdaK+) = (2.91(+0.90)(-0.70) +/- 0.38) x 10(-6). We also perform a search for the related decay mode B+-->LambdaLambdapi+, but do not find a significant signal. We set a 90% confidence-level upper limit of B(B+-->LambdaLambdapi+) < 2.8 x 10(-6).     

Evidence for B0-->rho0pi0

We present the first evidence of the decay B0-->rho(0)pi(0), using 140 fb(-1) of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider. We detect 15.1+/-4.8 signal events with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations and measure the branching fraction to be B(B0-->rho(0)pi(0))=(5.1+/-1.6(stat)+/-0.9(syst))x10(-6).
