Parameterized complexity of even/odd subgraph problems

We study the parameterized complexity of the problems of determining whether a graph contains a k-edge subgraph (k-vertex induced subgraph) that is a Π-graph for Π-graphs being one of the following four classes of graphs: Eulerian graphs, even graphs, odd graphs, and connected odd graphs. We also consider the parameterized complexity of their parametric dual problems.For these sixteen problems, we show that eight of them are fixed parameter tractable and four are W[1]-hard. Our main techniques are the color-coding method of Alon, Yuster and Zwick, and the random separation method of Cai, Chan and Chan.     

On elliptic curves y=x−nx with rank zero

In this paper we determine all elliptic curves E_n:y²=x³−n²x with the smallest 2-Selmer groups S_n=Sel₂(E_n(Q))={1} and S_n′=Sel₂(E_n′(Q))={±1,±n}(E_n′:y²=x³+4n²x) based on the 2-descent method. The values of n for such curves E_n are described in terms of graph-theory language. It is well known that the rank of the group E_n(Q) for such curves E_n is zero, the order of its Tate-Shafarevich group is odd, and such integers n are non-congruent numbers.     

On non-decomposable Hermitian forms over Gaussian domain

Methods are presented for the construction of non-decomposable Hermitian forms over the ring of integers of an imaginary quadratic field.     

Asymptotic Growth of Associated Primes of Certain Graph Ideals

We specify a class of graphs, H _t , and characterize the irreducible decompositions of all powers of the cover ideals. This gives insight into the structure and stabilization of the corresponding associated primes; specifically, providing an answer to the question “For each integer t ≥ 0, does there exist a (hyper) graph H _t such that stabilization of associated primes occurs at n ≥ (χ(H _t ) ?1) + t?” [4 Francisco , C. A. , Hà , H. T. , Van Tuyl , A. ( 2011 ). Colorings of hypergraphs, perfect graphs, and associated primes of powers of monomial ideals . J. Algebra 331 : 224 – 242 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]]. For each t, H _t has chromatic number 3 and associated primes that stabilize at n = 2 + t.     

A strong approximation for double subfractional integrals

A Riemann–Stieltjes integral strong approximation to double Stratonovich integrals with respect to odd and even fractional Brownian motions is considered. We prove the convergence in quadratic mean, uniformly on compact time intervals, of the ordinary double integral process obtained by linear interpolation of the odd and even fractional Brownian motions, to the double Stratonovich integral. The deterministic integrands are continuous or are given by bimeasures.     

Enhanced mobility of high-frequency discrete breathers in a monatomic chain with odd anharmonicity

The mobility of high-frequency discrete breathers in monatomic chains with nonlinear interatomic potentials of the nearest neighbors is considered. It was found that the odd (cubic and fifth) anharmonicity strongly affects the mobility of breathers, sharply increasing the distance that it propagates without being trapped. It was also found that the correctly chosen fifth anharmonicity leads to an inversion of stability between the bond-centered and site-centered breathers and to the low-radiative propagation of discrete breathers along the chain.     

Nuclear structure investigation of neutron-rich Mn isotopes

Structural evolution of odd-even and odd-odd Mn isotopes from the valley of stability up to neutron dripline is studied in the framework of the self-consistent mean-field theory of Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov. Three Skyrme effective interactions, namely, SLy4, SLy5 and SLy5T, are employed to investigate the tensor force effect on the ground-state properties. It is shown that the calculated quantities with the SLy4 interaction correctly reproduce the available experimental data and agree well with finite range droplet model and relativistic mean-field predictions. An inconsistency has been observed between the curves of the separation energies and that of the charge radius around N = 40. It is explained by the flatness of the potential energy curves in this region. The SLy5 and SLy5T results point to the necessity to refit all the Skyrme parameters after including the tensor terms.

Parity and disparity subgraphs

A parity subgraph of a graph is a spanning subgraph such that the degrees of each vertex have the same parity in both the subgraph and the original graph. Known results include that every graph has an odd number of minimal parity subgraphs. Define a disparity subgraph to be a spanning subgraph such that each vertex has degrees of opposite parities in the subgraph and the original graph. (Only graphs with all even-order components can have disparity subgraphs). Every even-order spanning tree contains both a unique parity subgraph and a unique disparity subgraph. Moreover, every minimal disparity subgraph is shown to be paired by sharing a spanning tree with an odd number of minimal parity subgraphs, and every minimal parity subgraph is similarly paired with either one or an even number of minimal disparity subgraphs.
