A model for the dynamic process of frictionless adhesive contact
between a viscoelastic body and a reactive foundation, which takes into
account the damage of the material resulting from tension or compression, is
presented. Contact is described by the normal compliance condition. Material
damage is modelled by the damage field, which measures the pointwise
fractional decrease in the load-carrying capacity of the material, and its
evolution is described by a differential inclusion. The model allows for
different damage rates caused by tension or compression. The adhesion is
modelled by the bonding field, which measures the fraction of active bonds
on the contact surface. The existence of the unique weak solution is
established using the theory of set-valued pseudomonotone operators
introduced by Kuttler and Shillor (1999). Additional regularity of the
solution is obtained when the problem data is more regular and satisfies
appropriate compatibility conditions. 相似文献

Physical-morphological and chemical changes leading to an increase in adhesion between plasma treated polyester fibres and a rubber matrix 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effects of plasma treatment, used to increase adhesion strength between poly(ethylene terephtalate) (PET) fibres and a rubber matrix, were investigated and compared. Morphological changes as a result of atmospheric plasma treatment were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Wettability analysis using a surface energy evaluation system (SEE system) suggested that the plasma treated fibre was more wetting towards a polar liquid. When treated, these fibres showed a new lamellar crystallization, as shown by a new melting peak using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has been used to study the chemical effect of inert (argon), active and reactive (nitrogen and oxygen) microwave-plasma treatments of a PET surface. Reactive oxygen plasma treatment by a de-convolution method shows new chemical species that drastically alter the chemical reactivity of the PET surface. These studies have also shown that the surface population of chemical species formed after microwave-plasma treatment is dependent on the plasma gas. All these changes cause better adhesion strength of the PET fibres to the rubber matrix. 相似文献

Laser-generated stress wave profiles with rarefaction shocks (almost zero post-peak decay times) have been uncovered in different types of glasses and presented in this communication. The rise time of the pulses was found to increase with their amplitude, with values reaching as high as . This is in contrast to measurements in other brittle crystalline solids where pulses with rise times of and post-peak decay times of were recorded. The formation of rarefaction shock is attributed to the increased compressibility of glasses with increasing pressures. This was demonstrated using a one-dimensional nonlinear elastic wave propagation model in which the wave speed was taken as a function of particle velocity. The technological importance of these pulses in measuring the tensile strength of very thin film interfaces is demonstrated by using a previously developed laser spallation experiment in which a laser-generated compressive stress pulse in the substrate reflects into a tensile wave from the free surface of the film and pries off its interface at a threshold amplitude. Because of the rarefaction shock, glass-modified waves allow generation of substantially higher interfacial tensile stress amplitudes compared with those with finite post-peak decay profiles. Thus, for the first time, tensile strengths of very strong and ultra thin film interfaces can be measured. Results presented here indicate that interfaces of 185-nm-thick films, and with strengths as high as , can be measured. Thus, an important advance has been made that should allow material optimization of ultra thin layer systems that may form the basis of future MEMS-based microelectronic, mechanical and clinical devices. 相似文献

We present the results of first principles calculations for the magnetism of Rh adlayers on MgO(0 0 1), at three different adsorption sites and three different coverages, corresponding to 1, 1/2 and 1/8 monolayers. Finite magnetization is found in all cases except that of one Rh monolayer above the oxygen site, which is also the most stable. We examine how the magnetization changes as a function of the Rh-surface distance and relate this to changes in the real-space charge density and in the density of states (DOS) as the Rh adlayer interacts with the surface. We find that increasing either the Rh-Rh interaction strength or the Rh-surface interaction strength leads to reduced magnetization, while increasing the former drives a crossover from localized (atomic) to itinerant magnetism. Neither the magnetic transition itself, nor the localized-to-itinerant magnetism crossover, is found to be directly related to the formation of Rh-surface bonds. From a practical point of view, we predict that magnetism in the Rh-MgO(0 0 1) system is most likely to be found experimentally at reduced coverages and at low temperatures. 相似文献

Lanthanum-based thin films deposited on the phosphonate 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) self-assembled monolayer (SAM) were prepared on the hydroxylated glass substrate by a self-assembling process from specially formulated solution. Chemical compositions of the films and chemical state of the elements were detected by X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS). The thickness of the films was determined with an ellipsometer, while the morphologies of the original and worn surfaces of the samples were analyzed by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The tribological properties of the films sliding against GCr15 steel ball were evaluated on a UMT-2MT reciprocating friction and wear tester. As the results, the target film was obtained and reaction may have taken place between the film and the glass substrate. The tribological results show that lanthanum-based thin films are superior in reducing friction and resisting wear compared with APTES-SAM and phosphorylated APTES-SAM. SEM observation of the morphologies of worn surfaces indicates that the wear of APTES-SAM and the phosphorylated APTES-SAM is characteristic of brittle fracture and severe abrasion. Differently, slight abrasion and micro-crack dominate the wear of lanthanum-based thin films. The superior friction reduction and wear resistance of lanthanum-based thin films are attributed to the enhanced load-carrying capacity of the inorganic lanthanum particles in the lanthanum-based thin films as well as good adhesion of the films to the substrate. 相似文献

In this work, the effects of grafted functional groups and surface wettability on the adhesion of leukocyte and platelet were investigated by the method of blood filtration. The filter materials, poly(butylene terephthalate) nonwoven fabrics bearing different functional groups including hydroxyl (OH), carboxyl (COOH), sulfonic acid group (SO3H) and zwitterionic sulfobetaine group (⊕N((CH3)2)(CH2)3SO3?) with controllable wettability were prepared by UV radiation grafting vinyl monomers with these functional groups. Our results emphasized that both surface functional groups and surface wettability had significant effects on the adhesion of leukocyte and platelet. In the case of filter materials with the same wettability, leukocytes adhering to filter materials decreased in the order: the surface bearing OH only > the surface bearing both OH and COOH > the surface bearing sulfobetaine group > the surface bearing SO3H, while platelets adhering to filter materials decreased as the following order: the surface bearing SO3H > the surface bearing both OH and COOH > the surface bearing OH only > the surface bearing sulfobetaine group. As the wettability of filter materials increased, both leukocyte and platelet adhesion to filter materials declined, except that leukocyte adhesion to the surface bearing OH only remained unchanged. 相似文献

With the invention of miniaturized devices like micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), tribological studies at micro/nano-scale have gained importance. These studies are directed towards understanding the interactions between surfaces at micro/nano-scales, under relative motion. In MEMS devices, the critical forces, namely adhesion and friction restrict the smooth operation of the elements that are in relative motion. These miniaturized devices are traditionally made from silicon (Si), whose tribological properties are not good. In this paper, we present a short investigation of nano- and micro-tribological properties of diamond-like carbon (DLC) nano-dot surfaces. The investigation was undertaken to evaluate the potential of these surfaces for their possible application to the miniaturized devices. The tribological evaluation of the DLC nano-dot surfaces was done in comparison with bare Si (1 0 0) surfaces and DLC coated silicon surfaces. A commercial atomic force microscope (AFM) was used to measure adhesion and friction properties of the test materials at the nano-scale, whereas a custom-built micro-tribotester was used to measure their micro-friction property. Results showed that the DLC nano-dot surfaces exhibited superior tribological properties with the lowest values of adhesion force, and friction force both at the nano- and micro-scales, when compared to the bare Si (1 0 0) surfaces and DLC coated silicon surfaces. In addition, the DLC nano-dot surfaces showed no observable wear at the micro-scale, unlike the other two test materials. The superior tribological performance of the DLC nano-dot surfaces is attributed to their hydrophobic nature and the reduced area of contact projected by them. 相似文献

Demolding, the process to separate stamp from molded resist, is most critical to the success of ultraviolet nanoimprint lithography (UV-NIL). In the present study we investigated adhesion and demolding force in UV-NIL for different compositions of a model UV-curable resist system containing a base (either tripropyleneglycol diacrylate with shorter oligomer length or polypropyleneglycol diacrylate with longer oligomer length), a cross-linking agent (trimethylolpropane triacrylate) and a photoinitiator (Irgacure 651). The demolding force was measured using a tensile test machine with homemade fixtures after imprinting the UV resist on a silicon stamp. While decreasing the cross-linking agent content from 49 to 0 wt% has little effect on the resist surface energy, it reduces the resist's elastic modulus drastically. The decrease in elastic modulus results in a decreased adhesion force at the resist/stamp interface thereby facilitating the demolding. The decrease in elastic modulus and, therefore, demolding force by lowering the cross-linking agent content was markedly less pronounced in tripropyleneglycol diacrylate-based resists due to its shorter oligomer length. These general findings will be useful in designing new resists for UV-NIL process. 相似文献

Hydrogenated-carbon nitride (CNx:H) films were synthesized on silicon substrate in a large quantity by the pyrolysis of ethylenediamine in a temperature range of 700-950 °C. The influence of temperature on the morphology, structure, adhesion to substrate, and friction and wear behavior of CNx:H films was investigated. It has been found that CNx:H films obtained at 700 °C and 800 °C are amorphous, and those prepared at 900 °C and 950 °C consist of carbon nitride nanocrystal. Besides, CNx:H film sample obtained at 700 °C has the maximum N content of 9.1 at.% but the poorest adhesion to Si substrate, while the one prepared at 900 °C has the lower N content and the highest adhesion to substrate. As a result, nanocrystalline CNx:H (nc-CNx:H) film synthesized at 900 °C possesses the best wear resistance when slides against stainless steel counterpart. N atom is incorporated into the graphitic network in three different bonding forms, and their relative content is closely related to temperature, corresponding to different adhesion as well as friction and wear behavior of the films obtained at different temperatures. Furthermore, the friction coefficient and antiwear life of as-deposited CNx:H films vary with varying deposition temperature and thickness, and the film with thickness of 1.3 μm, obtained at 900 °C, has the longest antiwear life of over 180,000 s. 相似文献

An attempt was made to study the effect of plasma surface activation on the adhesion of UV-curable sol-gel coatings on polycarbonate (PC) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) substrates. The sol was synthesized by the hydrolysis and condensation of a UV-curable silane in combination with Zr-n-propoxide. Coatings deposited by dip coating were cured using UV-radiation followed by thermal curing between 80 °C and 130 °C. The effect of plasma surface treatment on the wettability of the polymer surface prior to coating deposition was followed up by measuring the water contact angle. The water contact angle on the surface of as-cleaned substrates was 80° ± 2° and that after plasma treatment was 43° ± 1° and 50° ± 2° for PC and PMMA respectively. Adhesion as well as mechanical properties like scratch resistance and taber abrasion resistance were evaluated for coatings deposited over plasma treated and untreated surfaces. 相似文献
