The magnetic hyperfine field of bromine in iron by NMR/ON

Nuclear magnetic resonance of⁸²Br oriented at low temperature in iron has been observed with a sample prepared by ion implantation atT<0.2 K. The asymmetric resonance signal can be decomposed in a broad background signal and a narrow line of FWHM=1.8 (4) MHz which can be attributed to⁸²Br in undisturbed substitutional sites of Fe. From the center frequency of this narrow line (B _ext=0)=201.86(13) MHz we derive the magnetic hyperfine field asB _hf(BrFe)=81.38(6) T. This value is considerably larger than the result of theoretical calculations.

We show that if has characteristic zero and is a semi-abelian variety, then the Poincaré series is rational. However, we give examples to show that this series can be irrational if either of these conditions fails.

     

Variations on the warped deformed conifold

The warped deformed conifold background of type IIB theory is dual to the cascading SU(M(p+1))×SU(Mp) gauge theory. We show that this background realizes the (super-)Goldstone mechanism where the U(1) baryon number symmetry is broken by expectation values of baryonic operators. The resulting massless pseudo-scalar and scalar glueballs are identified in the supergravity spectrum. A D-string is then dual to a global string in the gauge theory. Upon compactification, the Goldstone mechanism turns into the Higgs mechanism, and the global strings turn into ANO strings. To cite this article: S.S. Gubser et al., C. R. Physique 5 (2004).

La configuration de fond pour la théorie de type IIB donnée par le conifold voilé déformé est duale à la cascade de théorie de jauge SU(M(p+1))×SU(Mp). Nous montrons que cette configuration donne une réalisation du mécanisme de (super-)Goldstone où la symètrie baryonique U(1) est brisée par la valeur moyenne dans le vide des opérateurs baryoniques. Les boules de glue pseudo-scalaires et scalaires de masse nulle résultantes sont identifiées dans le spectre de supegravité. Une D-corde est alors duale à une corde globale dans la théorie de jauge. Après compactification, le mécanisme de Goldstone devient un mécanisme de Higgs, et une corde globale devient une corde ANO. Pour citer cet article : S.S. Gubser et al., C. R. It is proved that if R is an associative ring that is cotorsionas a left module over itself, and J is the Jacobson radicalof R, then the quotient ring R/J is a left self-injective vonNeumann regular ring and idempotents lift modulo J. The Ziegler Spectrum of a Locally Coherent Grothendieck Category

The general theory of locally coherent Grothendieck categoriesis presented. To each locally coherent Grothendieck categoryC a topological space, the Ziegler spectrum of C, is associated.It is proved that the open subsets of the Ziegler spectrum ofC are in bijective correspondence with the Serre subcategoriesof coh C the subcategory of coherent objects of C. This is aNullstellensatz for locally coherent Grothendieck categories.If R is a ring, there is a canonical locally coherent Grothendieckcategory RC (respectively, CR) used for the study of left (respectively,right) R-modules. This category contains the category of R-modulesand its Ziegler spectrum is quasi-compact, a property used toconstruct large (not finitely generated) indecomposable modulesover an artin algebra. Two kinds of examples of locally coherentGrothendieck categories are given: the abstract category theoreticexamples arising from torsion and localization and the examplesthat arise from particular modules over the ring R. The dualitybetween coh-(RC) and coh-CR is shown to give an isomorphismbetween the topologies of the left and right Ziegler spectraof a ring R. The Nullstellensatz is used to give a proof ofthe result of Crawley-Boevey that every character : K₀(coh-C) Z is uniquely expressible as a Z-linear combination of irreduciblecharacters. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification: 16D90,18E15.     

A note on the hilbertfunction of a one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay ring

In this note we give examples of one-dimensional noetherian local integral domains with the property that the number of generators of the square of the maximal ideal is less than the embedding dimension. On the other hand we show that if \((R,m)\) is a local one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay ring, then \((m^n )\) for all n such that μ \((m^n )\) < m(R). Here μ denotes the minimal number of generators of an ideal and m(R) the multiplicity of R. A similar statement was conjectured by D. Sally in [5], Our main result 2.1 generalizes Prop. 2.6. in [6].
