A specially adapted schlieren system is used to generate fluctuating signals which respond strongly to large scale coherent components of a turbulent mixing jet flow and which have a relatively reduced response to random disturbances. The schlieren signals also provide a direct indication of the presence of vortex-like structures in the turbulent mixing layers by virtue of the phase relationship of the schlieren signals to the pressure field. This system gives a clear resolution of the fluctuating periodic effects associated with vortex structures in the flow from a choked convergent nozzle. It has thus been possible to determine that vortex-like eddies are associated with the feedback screech mechanism, and also generate periodic disturbances due to their passage through the diamond shaped wave structure in the flow. The regular disturbances in the flow move at 0.77 of the fully expanded flow velocity. Phase spectral observations demonstrate clearly the vortex like structure of coherent disturbances in the flow by virtue of the quadrature phase relation between the schlieren and microphone signals. Movement of the sensing microphone in the pressure field external to the flow shows disturbance propagation at the acoustic velocity, and also shows that disturbances at Strouhal numbers above 0.7 emanating from the inner mixing zone can be identified by an additional time delay to reach the microphone and only influence the microphone when it is located downstream of the flow sensing schlieren system due to confinement of pressure disturbances within Mach cones of the flow.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new prototype model of a micro pump using ICPF (Ionic Conducting Polymer Film) actuator as the servo actuator. This micro pump consists of two active oneway valves that make use of the same ICPF actuator. The overall size of this micro pump prototype is 12mm in diameter and 20 mm in length. The actuating mechanism is as follows: (1) The ICPF actuator as the diaphragm is bent into anode side by application of electricity. Then the volume of the pump chamber increases, resulting in the inflow of liquid from the inlet to the chamber. (2) By changing the current direction, the volume of the pump chamber decreases, resulting in the liquid flow from the chamber to the outlet. (3) The ICPF actuator is put on a sine voltage, the micro pump provides liquid flow from the inlet to the outlet continuously. Characteristic of the micro pump is measured. The experimental results indicate that the micro pump has the satisfactory responses.  相似文献

The traction continuity condition is used to delineate the elastic linear zone (ELZ) for the extraction of the Mode I stress intensity factor (SIF) from photoelastic data. The procedure requires an estimation, with the aid of experimental data, of some non-dimensional quantities which are the ratios of unknown parameters of the LEFM equations and the corresponding ones for an infinite body problem. Furthermore, the crack tip nonlinear zone is assumed to admit of plastic deformation with small-scale yielding.The estimation of the ELZ thus obtained seems to predict well the experimentally observed one.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of the rupture mechanisms in a mid-strength and a high-strength steel were conducted employing a novel test configuration. The specimen used was a double notched tube specimen loaded in combined tension and torsion at a fixed ratio. The effective plastic strain, the stress triaxiality and the Lode parameter were determined in the centre of the notch at failure. Scanning electron microscopy of the fractured surfaces revealed two distinctively different ductile rupture mechanisms depending on the stress state. At high stress triaxiality the fractured surfaces were covered with large and deep dimples, suggesting that growth and internal necking of voids being the governing rupture mechanism. At low triaxiality it was found that the fractured surfaces were covered with elongated small shear dimples, suggesting internal void shearing being the governing rupture mechanism. In the fractured surfaces of the high-strength steel, regions with quasi-cleavage were also observed. The transition from the internal necking mechanism to the internal shearing mechanism was accompanied by a significant drop in ductility.  相似文献

Summary Free convection past a vertical plate is studied theoretically for a general class of nonlinear wall temperature distributions. Due to the broad approach it is possible in some cases to find two series solutions applying to the same wall temperature distribution which are valid in different parts of the x region. Through graphical joining of both solutions an overall valid solution is obtained. This is illustrated by examples.  相似文献

We discuss here nano-scale size localized wave excitations, which are intrinsic localized traveling modes in two-dimensional anharmonic crystal lattice systems. In particular, using different initial conditions of coordinates and momenta we search for the longest lasting excitations in triangular lattices. As most stable and longest lasting unaltered appear quasi-one-dimensional Toda-like solitons running in rectilinear chains along the main crystallographic axes of such lattices. Furthermore, by following the trace of high energetic excitations like in “bubble chamber” methodology (or in scanning tunneling microscopy) we show how such localized nonlinear waves appearing spontaneously in heated systems can be detected and followed in space-time.  相似文献

A macromolecular solution is represented by the simple model of rigid dumbbells suspended in a Newtonian fluid with Brownian motion included. Hydrodynamic interaction is not taken into account. It is found that for this model there will be recoil after the cessation of steady shearing flow. The ultimate shear recovery S is developed as a power series in κ?, the shear rate prior to the cessation of the steady shear flow: $$S_\infty = (\theta _0 /2\eta _0 ) \kappa ^\user1{ - } + O(\kappa ^\user1{ - } )^3$$ where η0 and θ0 values of the viscosity and primary normal stress functions respectively at zero-shear rate. The coefficient of the term in (κ?)3 is calculated. In addition, the behavior of the normal stresses during the recoil process is found; during recoil τ2233 has the opposite sign from τ1122.  相似文献

Two small holes (0.0292 in.), appropriately drilled near the root of a Charpy V-notch, have been shown to reduce markedly the Charpy V-notch transition temperature of various steels. In the present study, three experimental techniques were used to define the effect of two holes on the mechanics of deformation and fracture of notched bars loaded in three- and four-point bending: (1) two-dimensional photoelastic stress analyses were performed on models of both the standard Charpy and drilled geometries; (2) a sensitive dislocation etch-pitting technique was used to observe directly the plastic-strain fields developed in V-notch samples of Fe?3% Si alloy loaded in slow bending; and (3) the Charpy striker was instrumented to record load-time curves during impact-bending and thereby determine the dynamic fracture strength of notched and drilled mildsteel samples. It was determined that two holes donot significantly reduce the elastic stress-concentration factor although they cause considerable redistribution of the local shear stresses around the notch. Consequently, the elastic-plastic state develops quite differently in the presence of two holes, and hole drilling can increase the load-carrying capacity of notched mild-steel bars by more than 100 percent even when bars fail by brittle cleavage prior to general yielding. The implications of these results with respect to other forms of “stress-relieving notches” are discussed.  相似文献
