Comparative study of reductive amination reaction on 5-(4-formyl-3,5-dimethoxyphenoxy)valeric acid and its monomethoxy analog using the Multipin™ approach

The 5-(4-formyl-3,5-dimethoxyphenoxy)valeric acid (Barany)linker and its monomethoxy analog were applied to theMultipin method of solid phase synthesis. Acomparative assessment of reductive amination and cleavage ofthese linkers under conditions of multiple synthesis indicatedthat both were applicable to a broad range of primary aminesincluding aniline and 4-nitroaniline. Apart from the greaterlability of the dimethoxy version under TFA cleavage, there wasno observable advantage of one linker over the other within thedescribed experiment.     

The Interaction between Collagen and an Aluminum Tanning Agent

The interaction between collagen and organometallic aluminum complexes was studied. From the analysis of the IR and UV spectra, the viscosity of collagen, and the treated collagen, a possible interaction model of the collagen with the aluminum tanning agent has been found. It indicates that such an aluminum tanning agent could be used as a cleaner tanning agent in leather tanning.

Mollification formulas and implicit smoothing

This paper develops some mollification formulas involving convolutions between popular radial basis function (RBF) basic functions Φ, and suitable mollifiers. Polyharmonic splines, scaled Bessel kernels (Matern functions) and compactly supported basic functions are considered. A typical result is that in ℛ^d the convolution of |{•}|^β and (•²+c ²)^−(β+2d)/2 is the generalized multiquadric (•²+c ²)^β/2 up to a multiplicative constant. The constant depends on c>0, β, where ℜ(β)>−d, and d. An application which motivated the development of the formulas is a technique called implicit smoothing. This computationally efficient technique smooths a previously obtained RBF fit by replacing the basic function Φ with a smoother version Ψ during evaluation.     

Densification effect on physical properties of atactic polystyrene

Atactic polystyrene has been densified under hydrostatic pressure, up to 2 kbar, at about 180°C. Dielectric measurements were made on densified and nondensified polystyrene samples by using the thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) and the absorption and resorption current methods. The dielectric loss is modified by the densification. This effect can be explained in terms of the free-volume reduction and the internal stress induced in the material during densification.
