The analytical equations for calculating two-phase flow, including local capillary pressures, are developed for the bundle of parallel capillary tubes model. The flow equations that are derived were used to calculate dynamic immiscible displacements of oil by water under the constraint of a constant overall pressure drop across the tube bundle. Expressions for averaged fluid pressure gradients and total flow rates are developed, and relative permeabilities are calculated directly from the two-phase form of Darcy's law. The effects of pressure drop and viscosity ratio on the relative permeabilities are discussed. Capillary pressure as a function of water saturation was delineated for several cases and compared to a steady-state mercury-injection drainage type of capillary pressure profile. The bundle of serial tubes model (a model containing tubes whose diameters change randomly at periodic intervals along the direction of flow), including local Young-Laplace capillary pressures, was analyzed with respect to obtaining relative permeabilities and macroscopic capillary pressures. Relative permeabilities for the bundle of parallel tubes model were seen to be significantly affected by altering the overall pressure drop and the viscosity ratio; relative permeabilities for the bundle of serial tubes were seen to be relatively insensitive to viscosity ratio and pressure, and were consistently X-like in profile. This work also considers the standard Leverett (1941) type of capillary pressure versus saturation profile, where drainage of a wetting phase is completed in a step-wise steady fashion; it was delineated for both tube bundle models. Although the expected increase in capillary pressure at low wetting-phase saturation was produced, comparison of the primary-drainage capillary pressure curves with the pseudo-capillary pressure profiles, that are computed directly using the averaged pressures during the displacements, revealed inconsistencies between the two definitions of capillary pressure.  相似文献

Background  

Stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1 or CXCL12) is chemotaxic for CXCR4 expressing bone marrow-derived cells. It functions in brain embryonic development and in response to ischemic injury in helping guide neuroblast migration and vasculogenesis. In experimental adult stroke models SDF-1 is expressed perivascularly in the injured region up to 30 days after the injury, suggesting it could be a therapeutic target for tissue repair strategies. We hypothesized that SDF-1 would be expressed in similar temporal and spatial patterns following hypoxic-ischemic (HI) injury in neonatal brain.  相似文献

Introduction

The National Cancer Institute Quantitative Research Network (QIN) is a collaborative research network whose goal is to share data, algorithms and research tools to accelerate quantitative imaging research. A challenge is the variability in tools and analysis platforms used in quantitative imaging. Our goal was to understand the extent of this variation and to develop an approach to enable sharing data and to promote reuse of quantitative imaging data in the community.

Methods

We performed a survey of the current tools in use by the QIN member sites for representation and storage of their QIN research data including images, image meta-data and clinical data. We identified existing systems and standards for data sharing and their gaps for the QIN use case. We then proposed a system architecture to enable data sharing and collaborative experimentation within the QIN.

Results

There are a variety of tools currently used by each QIN institution. We developed a general information system architecture to support the QIN goals. We also describe the remaining architecture gaps we are developing to enable members to share research images and image meta-data across the network.

Conclusions

As a research network, the QIN will stimulate quantitative imaging research by pooling data, algorithms and research tools. However, there are gaps in current functional requirements that will need to be met by future informatics development. Special attention must be given to the technical requirements needed to translate these methods into the clinical research workflow to enable validation and qualification of these novel imaging biomarkers.  相似文献

The phenomena of the onsets of liquid entrainment and gas entrainment were investigated experimentally for the case of a flat plane with a circular outlet branch of diameter d (=6.35 mm) at the plane centre. This flat plane was situated in a large tank containing a stratified mixture of air and water under pressure (317 kPa for most experiments and 520 kPa for a few experiments) and at room temperature. The plane was inclined through various angles (θ) in increments of 30°, from the outlet branch orientation being vertically upward through the horizontal to vertically downward. For both onsets the vertical distance between the centre of the outlet branch and the undisturbed gas–liquid interface (h) was measured for various angles of inclination and Froude numbers. Both onsets were observed visually through a large viewing part of the test section. It was found that for both onsets there is a range of inclination angles where the onset h depended on θ and a range where the onset h essentially did not depend on θ. The data were correlated in terms of onset h/d, Froude number, and θ where there was dependence of onset h on the angle of inclination.  相似文献

The decay of charmed particles produced by high-energy neutrinos has been studied by an experiment using simultaneously emulsion, bubble chamber and counter techniques. Eight charmed particle candidates, 5 positively charged and 3 neutral, have been found in the emulsion, where their production and decay have been directly observed. One of these events is identified as a Λc+ baryon of mass 2.26±0.02 GeV/c2 which undergoes the decay Λc+→pK?π+ after a proper time of (7.3±0.1) · 10?13 s.A statistical analysis of the other observed decays leads to the mean-life values τ+=(2.5?1.1+2.2) · 10?13 s, τ0=(0.53?0.25+0.57) · 10?13 s, for the sample of charged particles enriched by a similar event found in a previous experiment, and for the sample of 3 neutral particles, respectively. The former value is only slightly affected by including in the sample the Λc+ event or excluding that of the previous experiment.  相似文献

Electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectra were recorded for a range of substituted isoindoline nitroxides, two isoindoline nitroxide dimers and two piperidinyl nitroxides. In all cases the dominant molecular species arise from oxidation rather than protonation, an unusual process in ESI. Fragment ion spectroscopy was used to establish fragmentation mechanisms for the nitroxides under ESI conditions.  相似文献

Electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectra have been recorded for a range of substituted nitronyl nitroxide and iminyl nitroxide monoradicals and biradicals. Secondary species formed in the ESI source were observed as the dominant ions in both the iminyl nitroxide and nitronyl nitroxide spectra. Daughter ion spectrometry was used to establish fragmentation mechanisms for the nitronyl nitroxide and iminyl nitroxide moieties as well as the secondary species under ESI conditions.  相似文献

In the first holographic bubble chamber experiment — the HOBC experiment — we have accumulated a total of 40000 holograms with particle interactions. We have determined the total charm pair cross section inpN collisions to be 23.3 ?7.7 +10 μb and 3.6 ?1.7 +2.3 μb for 360 and 200 GeV/c incident protons respectively. We have assumed a linear dependence of the cross section on the atomic number of the target. This experiment has demonstrated the feasibility of holographic recording in small bubble chambers. Assuming that the charm cross section can be described by the standard QCD factorized expression with gluon fusion and quark-antiquark annihilation, we have used our measured charm cross sections with other measurements to determine the effective charmed quark mass to be 1.8 ?0.35 +0.25 GeV/c2. TheK factor, which describes the importance of the higher order corrections, is calculated to be 9.8 ?6.9 +12.5 (See noted added in proof.)  相似文献

The crystal structure determinations of two crystalline components of the hexane extract of the fruit of the indigenous Australian tree Melicope ellyrana have shown them to be polymorphs of the same compound, namely the flavonoid 4′,5-di­hydroxy-3,3′,8-tri­methoxy-7-(3-methyl­but-2-enyl­oxy)­flavone [systematic name: 5-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxy­phenyl)-3,8-di­methoxy-7-(3-methyl­but-2-enyl­oxy)-4H-1-benzo­pyran-4-one], C23H24O8. The two polymorphs, one monoclinic (polymorph A) and the other triclinic (polymorph B), show significant conformational differences, particularly in the enyl­oxy side chain, while only one (polymorph A) shows intermolecular hydrogen bonding.  相似文献
