We report on the first successful loading of a magneto-optical trap (MOT) with metastable He atoms from a Stark-slower. Thereby,
deceleration of the atoms relies on laser-atom interaction in an inhomogeneous electric field. We show that the results obtained
are comparable with early results from other groups achieved with a Zeeman slower. The Stark slower, which is able to fully
control the final velocity of the atomic He beam, is the first step in achieving complete spin independent kinematic control
based solely on electric fields.

The leakage of aqueous contents of neutral (dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine/cholesterol) liposomes as induced by Rz1, a proline-rich lipoprotein, the bacteriophage Rz1 gene product, was studied. Fluorescence enhancement assay with Tb3+/dipicolinic acid and self-quenching assays with carboxyfluorescein and fluorescein isothiocyanaten-dextran were used to monitor the Rz1-induced leakage from neutral liposomes. The results demonstrated that Rz1 caused local membrane destabilization leading to the leakage of the liposome contents. The extent of the leakage was independent of the molecular mass of the liposome-entrapped solutes in the range of 376–4000 Da. The kinetics of Rz1-liposome leakage was very similar to that obtained with detergent Triton X-100 for all the solutes used. The results suggested that Rz1 can act as a detergent; i.e., by interacting with lipids on both sides of the liposome membranes (inducing perturbation in the lipid packing within the bilayer), it facilitates the transfer of encapsulated molecules into the external liposome environment. We study analytically and numerically the properties of one-dimensional
chain of cold ions placed in a periodic potential of optical lattice
and global harmonic potential of a trap.
In close similarity with the Frenkel-Kontorova model, a transition from
sliding to pinned phase takes place with the increase of
the optical lattice potential for the density of ions
incommensurate with the lattice period. We show that at zero temperature the quantum
fluctuations lead to a quantum phase transition
and melting of pinned instanton glass phase at large values of dimensional Planck constant.
After melting the ion chain can slide in an optical lattice.
The obtained results are also relevant for a Wigner crystal placed

We proposed for the first time the concept of the nano liquid-metal fluid, aiming to establish an engineering route to make the highest conductive coolant. Using several widely accepted theoretical models for characterizing the nano fluid, the thermal conductivity enhancement of the liquid-metal fluid due to addition of more conductive nano particles was predicted. Further, the effects of particle size, cluster of nano particle, solid-like layer due to adsorption, volume fraction and particle types were evaluated. Having the highest conductivity, being electromagnetically drivable, the liquid metal with low melting point is expected to be an idealistic base fluid for making super conductive solution which may lead to the ultimate coolant in a wide variety of heat transfer enhancement area. 相似文献
