Multi-scale models based on computational homogenisation are nowadays developed for the simulation of complex material behaviour. The use of homogenisation techniques on finite-sized representative volume elements in the presence of quasi-brittle damage may lead to the presence of snap-backs in the macroscopic material response. A methodology to simulate this type of response in the multi-scale technique is proposed, based on the control of the dissipation at the mesoscopic scale. To cite this article: T.J. The creeping motion of a porous sphere at the instant it passes the center of a spherical container has been investigated. The Brinkman's model for the flow inside the porous sphere and the Stokes equation for the flow in the spherical container were used to study the motion. The stream function (and thus the velocity) and pressure (both for the flow inside the porous sphere and inside the spherical container) are calculated. Random-field model for the elasticity tensor of anisotropic random media   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This Note deals with the construction of a non-Gaussian positive definite matrix-valued random field whose mathematical properties allow the fourth-order elasticity tensor of random non homogeneous anisotropic three dimensional elastic media to be modelled. If the usual parametric probabilistic approach was used, then 21 mutually dependent random fields should be modelled and identified by using experimental data. Such an approach would be very difficult because the systems of the marginal probability distributions of these random fields have to be identified due to the fact that, for a boundary value problem, the displacement field of the random medium is a non-linear mapping of the random elasticity tensor. The theory presented in this paper allows such a probabilistic model of the fourth-order elasticity tensor field to be constructed and depends only of four scalar parameters: three spatial correlation lengths and one parameter allowing the level of the random fluctuations to be controlled. On présente la construction d'un champ aléatoire à valeurs dans les matrices définies positives dont les propriétés mathématiques permettent de modéliser le tenseur d'élasticité du quatrième ordre des mileux élastiques anisotropes tridimensionnels aléatoires. Si l'approche probabiliste paramétrique usuelle était utilisée, alors il serait nécessaire de modéliser et d'identifier à l'aide de données expérimentales 21 champs aléatoires mutuellement dépendants. Une telle approche serait très difficile de part le fait que le système de lois marginales de ces champs aléatoires doit être identifié parce que, pour un problème aux limites, le champ de déplacement est une transformation non linéaire du tenseur d'élasticité. La théorie présentée dans ce papier permet de construire une modélisation probabiliste du champ de tenseur d'élasticité qui ne dépend que de quatre paramètres scalaires : trois échelles de corrélation spatiale et un paramètre permettant de contrôler le niveau des fluctuations aléatoires. This paper presents the application of a recently proposed ‘second-order’ homogenization method (J. Mech. Phys. Solids 50 (2002) 737–757) to the estimation of the effective behavior of hyperelastic composites subjected to finite deformations. The main feature of the method is the use of ‘generalized’ secant moduli that depend not only on the phases averages of the fields, but also on the phase covariance tensors. The use of the method is illustrated in the context of particle-, or fiber-reinforced elastomers and estimates analogous to the well-known Hashin–Shtrikman estimates for linear-elastic composites are generated. The new estimates improve on earlier estimates (J. Mech. Phys. Solids 48 (2000) 1389–1411) neglecting the use of fluctuations. In particular, the new estimates, unlike the earlier ones, are capable of recovering the exact incompressibility constraint when the matrix is also taken to be incompressible. The thermo-elastic plastic behaviour of functionally graded plates under extremal thermal loading at different boundary conditions is considered. The plates consist of two phases – ZrO2 ceramics and Ti6Al4V alloy. The layers are distributed exponentially through the thickness. The mechanical and thermal properties of both materials strongly depend on temperature. The stress–strain behaviour is investigated by the FEM. To predict the stable state of the structures of interest, several failure criteria are applied. Two cost functions are introduced to optimize the design of the plate. In this work, we address the numerical solution of some non-linear problems arising in the time discretization of fluid–structure interaction problems with fully implicit schemes. At each time step, we have to solve a highly non-linear coupled system, since the fluid domain depends on the unknown displacement of the structure. We propose a modified fixed-point algorithm which combines the Block-Gauss–Seidel iterations with a transpiration formulation. Following the study of Gologanu et al. (1997) which has extended the well-known approach of Gurson (1975), we propose approximate yield criteria for anisotropic plastic voided metals containing non spherical cavities. The plastic anisotropy of the matrix is described by means of Hill's quadratic criterion. The procedure to establish the closed form expression of approximate macroscopic criteria, in which void shape and plastic anisotropic effects are included, is detailed. The new criteria allow us to recover existing results in the cases of spherical and cylindrical voids in an Hill type plastic matrix. Moreover, they agree with previous criteria for non spherical voids in an isotropic plastic matrix. Finally, for validation purposes, we provide, in the general case of non spherical cavities in the anisotropic matrix, a comparison with the numerical exact two field criteria. This Note presents a new approximate scheme for nonlinear composites. The approximation which is made preserves certain features of the original second-order scheme of Ponte Castañeda, exactness to second-order in the contrast and existence of an effective energy, but improves on one drawback, which is the gap between the strain-energy formulation and the affine formulation. We consider a mathematical model describing the behavior of an underground waste repository, once the containers start to leak. Due to the high contrast of the characteristic lengths, numerical simulations on a such model are unrealistic. After renormalization, a small parameter ε appears and the global model is obtained when ε tends to zero, by means of homogenization and boundary layers methods.
