α-Oxolactam enamines as new synthons in the Nenitzescu reaction

-Oxolactam enamines, namely, 3-piperidino-5,6-dihydropyridin-2(1H)-one (1a) and 3-piperidino-1,5,6,7-tetrahydroazepin-2-one (1b), were introduced for the first time into the Nenitzescu reaction. The processes yield cyclic adducts 3a—e, 6. On heating in acetic acid, they are transformed into benzofuropyridone 7 and benzofuroazepinones 10a,d, and 12 and, unexpectedly, into chromenopyrrole 8 and chromenopyridines 9a—d and 11.     

Iron(III) chloride catalysed three-component Grieco condensation: Synthesis of tetrahydropyrido[2′,3′:3,4]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines/quinazolines

Three-component Grieco condensation reaction of 3-aminopyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine, formaldehyde/benzaldehyde and electron rich alkenes in presence of iron(III) chloride gave tetrahydropyrido[2′,3′:3,4]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines/quinazolines in single pot. The sequence of reactions is formation of di-azadiene in situ and the subsequent regioselective addition of alkenes in aza-Diels Alder type reaction. The structure and stereochemistry of the products were confirmed by spectral data and single crystal X-ray crystallography.     

Synthesis and structural revision of naturally occurring ayapin derivatives

The synthesis of three highly oxygenated naturally occurring coumarins, 8-methoxy-6,7-methylenedioxycoumarin, 5-methoxy-6,7-methylenedioxycoumarin and 5,8-dimethoxy-6,7-methylenedioxycoumarin is described for the first time, together with a new method for the preparation of ayapin (6,7-methylenedioxycoumarin). Comparison of the spectroscopic data of the synthetic tetraoxygenated coumarin 5,8-dimethoxy-6,7-methylenedioxycoumarin with literature reports resulted in the structural revision of several natural coumarins. Two coumarins, both identified as 5,8-dimethoxy-6,7-methylenedioxycoumarin must have other structures, while the structure of another coumarin, described as the isomeric 7,8-dimethoxy-5,6-methylenedioxycoumarin has to be revised to 5,8-dimethoxy-6,7-methylenedioxycoumarin.     

Tuning the reactivity and chemoselectivity of electron-poor pyrroles as dienophiles in cycloadditions with electron-rich dienes

Activation by Lewis acid catalysis and high pressure allows pyrrole derivatives to react with electron-rich dienes in normal electron demand [4+2] cycloadditions, provided that the aromatic ring is substituted by at least two electron-withdrawing groups. The dienophilic behavior of the heterocycle is expressed through the involvement of either the aromatic carbon-carbon double bond in an all-carbon process or the carbonyl moiety of the substituent in a heterocycloaddition reaction. In this regard, the nature of the heterocyclic substituents is shown to have a dramatic influence and to direct both the reactivity and the chemoselectivity of the cycloaddition.     

Highly sensitive catalytic determination of molybdenum

A novel, highly sensitive, selective, and simple kinetic method was developed for the determination of Mo(VI) based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid (ANSA) with H₂O₂. The reaction was followed spectrophotometrically by tracing the oxidized product at 465 nm after 30 min of mixing the reagents. The optimum reaction conditions were: 10 mmol l⁻¹ ANSA, 50 mmol l⁻¹ H₂O₂, 100 mmol l⁻¹ acetate buffer of pH 5.0 ± 0.05 and at 40 °C. Addition of 200 μg ml⁻¹ diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) conferred high selectivity for the proposed method. Following the recommended procedure, Mo(VI) could be determined with a linear calibration graph up to 2.5 ng ml⁻¹ and a detection limit, based on the 3S_b-criterion, of 0.027 ng ml⁻¹. The unique sensitivity and selectivity of the implemented method allowed its direct application to the determination of Mo(VI) in natural and industrial waste water. The method was validated by comparison with the standard ETAAS method. Moreover, published catalytic-spectrophotometric methods for the determination of molybdenum were reviewed.     

Synthesis of 1-oxa-2-silacyclopentane derivatives via intramolecular nucleophilic attack at silicon

Metalation of (HSiMe₂)₃CH with lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) in THF gives (HSiMe₂)₃CLi, which reacts with ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, 1,2-epoxy butane, 1,2-epoxy pentane, 1,2-epoxy hexane, and epichlorohydrin to give the corresponding 1-oxa-2-silacyclopentane derivatives. Then, glycidylmethacrylate (GM) random copolymers with styrene (St) (in a 1:1 and 1:3 mol ratio) were synthesized by solution free radical polymerization at 70(±1) °C using α,α′-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as an initiator. Both types of copolymers were treated with (HSiMe₂)₃CLi to give new modified copolymers. The reaction of (HSiMe₂)₃CLi with epoxides on the side chains of the copolymers does not lead to intramolecular nucleophilic attack contrary to simple epoxides. All the products have been characterized by spectroscopic techniques.

Quadrupole mass spectrometric study of positive ions from RF plasmas of pure CH4, CH4/H2, and CH4/Ar systems

Quadrupole mass spectrometry has been employed to characterize the ionic species in the discharges of pure CH₄, CH₄/H₂, and CH₄/Ar systems. For pure methane, the major positive ions in the discharge at low pressure (e.g., 0.15 torr) are CH ₃ ⁺ , C₂H ₃ ⁺ , CH ₂ ⁺ , C₂H ₂ ⁺ , CH ₄ ⁺ , C₂H ₄ ⁺ , and C₂H ₅ ⁺ at high pressure (e.g., 0.5 torr) the major ions are CH ₃ ⁺ , C₂H ₃ ⁺ , C₂H ₅ ⁺ , C₃H ₃ ⁺ , C H₃H ₇ ⁺ , C₄H ₇ ⁺ , C₅H ₇ ⁺ , C₆H ₅ ⁺ , and C₇H ₇ ⁺ . The relative abundances of C₁ ions decrease with increasing pressure, whereas those of higher-order ions increase with pressure. For 5% CH₄ + 95% H₂ mixture, in addition to those sampling from the pure methane plasma at the lower pressure, H _n ⁺ ions have also been detected. For 5% CH₄ +95% Ar mixture, the principal ions are CH ₃ ⁺ , CH ₂ ⁺ , CH⁺, CH ₅ ⁺ , Ar⁺, and ArH⁺; the ions containing more than two carbon atoms are negligible. In these discharges, the CH ₃ ⁺ and C₂H ₃ ⁺ are the most important positive ions in C₁ and C₂ ions, respectively. The ions detected are believed to come from the sheath between the electrode and the luminous plasma, and have high kinetic energy. An ion-molecule reaction mechanism is proposed which can well explain the observed main features of ionic products.Died June 1, 1991.     

The Studies of Free Radical Cyclization Reactions Mediated by Sulfonyl Chloride (II)

A study on the free radical cyclization reaction of substituted 1,6-dienes mediated by p-toluenesulfonyl chloride is described.     

Synthesis and property of soluble poly(1,1′-dialkyl-3,3′-ferrocenylenevinylene)s via titanium-induced dicarbonyl-coupling reaction of 1,1′-dialkylferrocene-3,3′-dicarbaldehydes

1,1′-Dialkylferrocene-3,3′-dicarbaldehydes ( 1a–c ) with long alkyl chains such as ethyl, hexyl, and dodecyl groups were prepared in 13–25% yield via three-step reactions. The titanium-induced dicarbonyl-coupling reaction of 1a–c gave poly(1,1′-dialkyl-3,3′-ferrocenylenevi-nylene)s ( 2a–c ) in quantitative yields, which were the molecular weights of 3000–10,000 and highly soluble in chloroform, benzene, and hexane. The electrical conductivity and the third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility for poly(1,1′-dihexyl-3,3′-ferrocenylenevinylene) ( 2b ) were estimated to be 1 × 10^?2 S/cm on doping with iodine and 1–4 × 10^?12 esu at a wavelength of 1–2.4 μm, respectively. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
