Assignment of laser lines in an optically pumped submillimeter and near millimeter laser: (H2CO)3

A large number of emissions is obtained in the submillimeter and near millimeter range with the (H₂CO)₃ laser optically pumped by a CO₂ laser. A study of the microwave absorption spectrum of the molecule carried out simultaneously with the submm analysis allows us to assign six of the laser lines in thev ₅ excited state of the molecule and to determine the rotational constants and vibrational energy ofv ₅.

多体刚性椭球模型是一种比较精确的描述氦原子与钠分子碰撞的理论模型.本文用多体刚性椭球模型计算了不同能量下He的同位素原子3He,4He,7He,10He与Na2分子碰撞的转动激发积分散射截面,表明增加椭球等势面个数可以得到更准确的转动激发积分散射截面;总结出3He,4He,7He,10He-Na2碰撞体系转动激发积分散射截面随相对入射能量和体系约化质量变化的规律;讨论了相对入射能量为100meV时,相互作用势的不同区域对4He-Na2碰撞体系转动激发积分散射截面的影响情况.     

The ACE-FTS atlas of the infrared solar spectrum

The ACE-FTS is a space-borne Fourier transform spectrometer onboard SCISAT-1. The satellite was launched in August 2003 and since February 2004 the ACE-FTS has been performing solar occultation measurements in order to infer the chemical composition of the terrestrial atmosphere. The individual spectra recorded at the highest limb tangent altitudes (above 160 km) are by definition “high sun” spectra and contain no atmospheric contribution. In this work, an empirical solar spectrum covering the 700 to 4430 cm⁻¹ spectral range has been constructed from an average of 224,782 individual ACE-FTS solar spectra. Line assignments have been made for about 12,000 lines. The spectrum and two line lists are provided in the supplemental material attached to this work. Due to the excellent noise level achieved in the ACE-FTS solar atlas presented here, numerous weak absorption features are assigned which were not detectable in the ATMOS solar observations.     

Spliced-fiber mode filter for 1060-nm single-mode transmission

We present a novel mode filter operating for the 1060-nm band, which selectively removes the power of the high-order mode (HOM) from a conventional single-mode fiber (C-SMF) that supports two modes at the short-wavelength band. Our mode filter is fabricated very easily by fusion-splicing a short section of short-wavelength single-mode fiber in the middle of the C-SMF link. By using our spliced-fiber mode filter (SF-MF), a high HOM suppression performance of > 18 dB has been achieved with a low insertion loss of < 0.3 dB over the full band of optical communications from 1050 nm to 1650 nm. We have also developed a new mode power measurement scheme that takes advantage of the bending sensitivity of the HOM guidance. This measurement scheme enabled us to evaluate accurately the performance factors of the fabricated mode filter.     

Time-varying many-server finite-queues in tandem: Comparing blocking mechanisms via fluid models

This paper focuses on the mechanism of Blocking Before Service (BBS), in time-varying many-server queues in tandem. BBS arises in telecommunication networks, production lines and healthcare systems. We model a stochastic tandem network under BBS and develop its corresponding fluid limit, which includes reflection due to jobs lost. Comparing our fluid model against simulation shows that the model is accurate and effective. This gives rise to design/operational insights regarding network throughput, under both BBS and BAS (Blocking After Service).     

The Toda system and multiple-end solutions of autonomous planar elliptic problems

We prove the existence of a new class of entire, positive solutions for the classical elliptic problem Δu−u+up=0 in R², when p>2. The solutions we construct are obtained by perturbing the function

     

Double Hall algebras and derived equivalences

We show that the reduced Drinfeld double of the Ringel-Hall algebra of a hereditary category is invariant under derived equivalences. By associating an explicit isomorphism to a given derived equivalence, we also extend the results of Burban and Schiffmann [5] and [006], Sevenhant and Van den Bergh (1999) [25], and Xiao and Yang (2001) [31].     

Solving symmetric mixed-model multi-level just-in-time scheduling problems

The generation of leveled production schedules is of high importance for mixed-model assembly lines whose parts and materials are supplied just-in-time by multi-level production processes. The Output Rate Variation problem is the standard mathematical representation of this complex level scheduling problem and has been extensively studied by research thus far. This work identifies novel symmetries in solution sequences of this problem class and shows how these insights can be used to improve exact solution procedures presented in the literature. The effectiveness of the modifications is evaluated by a computational study.

Lower Bounds on Genera of Subvarieties of Generic Hypersurfaces

Abstract

A second-order invariant of C. Voisin gives a powerful method for bounding from below the geometric genus of a k-dimensional subvariety of a degree dhypersurface in complex projective n-space. This work uses the Voisin method to establish a general bound, which lies behind recent results of G. Pacienza and Z. Ran.
