The decay of the 17 μs isomer of 133Sb was re-investigated experimentally. It was produced by thermal neutron induced fission of 241Pu. Its detection is based on time correlation between fission fragments selected by the LOHENGRIN spectrometer at ILL (Grenoble), and the γ-rays, and conversion electrons from the isomer. The interpretation of the level scheme is based on shell model calculations, where empirical two-body matrix elements were employed. The good agreement between theory and experiment suggests that the isomer is the 21/2+ member of the 2p-1h πg 7/2ν(f 7/2 h 11/2 −1) configuration. A new high-spin isomer in 145Sm was observed by in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy with the reaction 122Sn(27Al,3np) at 127 MeV performed at the Nordball multi-detector array in Roskilde. The excitation energy of the isomer was determined to be E x= 11147 keV, and using the generalized centroid-shift method its half-life was found to be T 1/2= (7.4 ± 1.0) ns. A two-dimensional axisymmetric model of the propagation of intense femtosecond laser pulses through dispersion-free transparent media is described. The effects of diffraction, nonlinear Kerr effect (instantaneous and retarded) and multiphoton ionisation are included. Numerical results concerning air and other gases are discussed. In particular, time self-compression of femtosecond pulses is predicted. Stable self-guided pulses are simulated, in agreement with recent experimental observations. We present a review of our recent theoretical and experimental results on the interaction of incoherent two-dimensional solitary beams in PR SBN crystals. We show that the inherent anisotropy of PR nonlinearity strongly affects the interaction between solitons. Theoretical and experimental results reveal that solitons interacting in a plane perpendicular to the direction of external biasing field always attract, whereas those colliding in a plane of the field exhibit anomalous behaviour. They may experience both attractive and repulsive forces, depending on their mutual separation. We also show that this anisotropy results in the complicated topology of soliton trajectories, featuring periodic collisions, prolonged mutual spiraling and collapse, depending on the initial conditions. We review recent studies of the effects of disorder on an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). We focus particularly on our own experiments with 7Li BECs in laser speckle. Both the interaction, which gives rise to the nonlinearity in a BEC, and the disorder can be tuned experimentally. This opens many opportunities to study the interplay of interaction and disorder in both condensed matter physics and nonlinear science.  相似文献

We find exact solutions of the two- and three-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a supporting potential. We focus in the case where the diffraction operator is of the hyperbolic type and both the potential and the solution have the form of an X-wave. Following similar arguments, several additional families of exact solutions can also can be found irrespectively of the type of the diffraction operator (hyperbolic or elliptic) or the dimensionality of the problem. In particular we present two such examples: The one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a stationary and a “breathing” potential and the two-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger with a Bessel potential.  相似文献

We report on the formation of spatial optical solitons in photorefractive media using picosecond laser pulses. Solitons are generated with laser pulses in the visible and infrared wavelength region using photorefractive strontium barium niobate. Formation of defect states by optical induction in one-dimensional photonic lattices fabricated in photorefractive lithium niobate is investigated experimentally. First, by using a moving narrow laser beam for defect recording, we investigate light propagation in samples containing single line defects and adjacent channel defects forming directional couplers. Then, these results are used to create lattices with randomly distributed defects, resembling a disordered optical potential. In such lattices, wave propagation is found to change from ballistic transport to transverse Anderson-like light localization as a function of induced disorder.  相似文献

Light propagation in one-dimensional nonlinear waveguide arrays with self-defocusing intensity-resonant nonlinearity is investigated theoretically. We study thoroughly conditions for existence and stability of both gap and discrete dark solitons. According to the linear stability analysis both fundamental types (on-site and intersite) of gap solitons may be stable. Discrete dark solitons are unstable except in the low-power regime and, depending on system parameters, evolve into either gray solitons, breathers, or background radiation. Mobility of these solitons is analyzed by the free energy concept: gap solitons are immobile but dark solitons can be easily set in motion.  相似文献
