Regioselective,Asymmetric Formal Hydroamination of Unactivated Internal Alkenes

We report the regioselective and enantioselective formal hydroamination of unsymmetrical internal alkenes catalyzed by a copper catalyst ligated by DTBM‐SEGPHOS. The regioselectivity of the reaction is controlled by the electronic effects of ether, ester, and sulfonamide groups in the homoallylic position. The observed selectivity underscores the influence of inductive effects of remote substituents on the selectivity of catalytic processes occurring at hydrocarbyl groups, and the method provides direct access to various 1,3‐aminoalcohol derivatives with high enantioselectivity.     

1H and 13C NMR Determination of the Enantiomeric Purity of Substituted 4-Amino-3- (thien-2-Yl)-Butyric Acids and 4-Amino-3-(Benzo[b]Furan-2-yl)-Butyric Acids,Ligands of the GabaB Receptor.

The enantiomeric composition and absolute configuration of 4-Amino-3-(benzo[b]furan-2-yl)-Butanoic Acids and of 4-Amino-3-(thien-2-yl)-Butanoic Acids 1 may be accurately determined by ¹H and ¹³C nuclear magnetic resonance analysis of the corresponding derivatives 3 prepared by reaction with chiral reagents. Correlation with HPLC is signaled.     

Triply Linked Corrole Dimers

The oxidation of 10–10′ singly linked corrole dimers with DDQ at low concentration in CHCl₃ afforded meso–meso, β–β, β–β triply linked 2H‐corrole dimers (with two inner NH groups in each corrole unit), which exhibited characteristic ¹H NMR and absorption spectra attributable to their nonaromatic electronic networks. These 2H‐corrole dimers were reduced with NaBH₄ to aromatic 3H‐corrole dimers, which were unstable and easily oxidized back to the 2H‐corrole dimers upon exposure to air. Bis(zinc(II)) complexes of the 2H‐corrole dimers were synthesized and characterized as rare examples of nonaromatic zinc(II) corrole complexes.     

Miscible blends of poly(ethylene oxide) with brush copolymers of poly(vinyl alcohol)‐graft‐poly(l‐lactide)

Even though poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) is immiscible with both poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), this article shows a working route to obtain miscible blends based on these polymers. The miscibility of these polymers has been analyzed using the solubility parameter approach to choose the proper ratios of the constituents of the blend. Then, PVA has been grafted with l ‐lactide (LLA) through ring‐opening polymerization to obtain a poly(vinyl alcohol)‐graft‐poly(l ‐lactide) (PVA‐g‐PLLA) brush copolymer with 82 mol % LLA according to ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopies. PEO has been blended with the PVA‐g‐PLLA brush copolymer and the miscibility of the system has been analyzed by DSC, FTIR, OM, and SEM. The particular architecture of the blends results in DSC traces lacking clearly distinguishable glass transitions that have been explained considering self‐concentration effects (Lodge and McLeish) and the associated concentration fluctuations. Fortunately, the FTIR analysis is conclusive regarding the miscibility and the specific interactions in these systems. Melting point depression analysis suggests that interactions of intermediate strength and PLOM and SEM reveal homogeneous morphologies for the PEO/PVA‐g‐PLLA blends. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J.
