Subharmonic generation in physical systems: An interaction-box approach

A so-called “interaction-box” formalism, which has recently been introduced to describe hysteresis in dynamical systems in the case of higher harmonic generation, is further discussed and generalized to describe the phenomenon of subharmonic generation. In this case, the increase in the periodicity of the response is reflected in the formation of multiple loops in the Effect (output) vs. Cause (input) diagrams. Conversely, we show how this type of response represents a sort of “signature” of the system, and can thus be employed to draw general conclusions about the features of the latter. A specific example of a nonlinear system is chosen to illustrate the approach, namely a vibrating cantilever beam with a breathing crack. Effect vs. Cause curves are calculated for this system in the presence of higher harmonics and subharmonics.     

Study of the pumping-radiation-absorption effect on the generation efficiency of solutions of complex organic compounds

Using the method of mathematical simulation, we calculate the energy efficiency of the generation of 1,4-di[2-(5-phenyloxazolile)] benzene solutions in dioxane with allowance for the reabsorption of pumping radiation in a system of excited singlet states. 本文首次提出计算氢同位素水分子汽化焓的比较法,得到0～374℃时H2O,D2O,DTO和T2O的汽化焓,并提出用D2从含氚重水中分离出DT气的适宜温度.     

柱形量子点中的三阶极化率

利用量子力学的密度矩阵理论,在有效质量近似下，采用有限深势阱模型，导出了柱形量子点的三阶非线性极化率的解析表达式.通过数值计算，分析了GaAs/AlβGa1－βAs柱形量子点的三阶非线性极化率与量子点尺寸、掺杂浓度、入射光的频率和偏振方向等参量的关系.结果表明，三阶极化率峰值位置与这些参量密切相关，并且对于确定频率和偏振方向的入射光以及材料的掺杂浓度，存在与之相匹配的量子点尺寸，使三阶极化率达到极大，比体材料的相应值高出2个数量级以上.     

Thin films of metal-organic compounds and metal nanoparticle-embedded polymers for nonlinear optical applications

Thin films based on two very different metal-organic systems are developed and some nonlinear optical applications are explored. A family of zinc complexes which form perfectly polar assemblies in their crystalline state are found to organize as uniaxially oriented crystallites in vapor deposited thin films on glass substrate. Optical second harmonic generation from these films is investigated. A simple protocol is developed for thein-situ fabrication of highly monodisperse silver nanoparticles in a polymer film matrix. The methodology can be used to produce free-standing films. Optical limiting capability of the nanoparticle-embedded polymer film is demonstrated     

Nonexistence of a class of variate generation schemes

Motivated by a problem arising in the regenerative analysis of discrete-event system simulation, we ask whether a certain class of random variate generation schemes exists or not. Under very reasonable conditions, we prove that such variate generation schemes do not exist. The implications of this result for regenerative steady-state simulation of discrete-event systems are discussed.     

Polarisation characteristics of a 12 fibre coupler under femtosecond pulsed and continuous wave illumination

We report on the experimental investigation carried out in the polarisation characteristics of femtosecond pulsed and continuous wave beams propagating through a 1×2 fibre coupler. It is demonstrated that the polarisation states of pulsed and continuous wave illumination over the broad wavelength range can be preserved in a conventional fused fibre coupler. Furthermore, the fibre coupler acts as a low-pass spectral filter in the visible wavelength range with a splitting ratio between 99.6/0.4 and 99.7/0.3. The result is of importance for fibre-optic second harmonic generation microscopy which requires the polarisation preservation to extract molecular organization of a sample.     

Spectrophotometric determination of hydrogen peroxide with leuco Patent Blue Violet

Hydrogen peroxide (1 × 10^?7?10^?5 mol dm^?3) was determined in aqueous solution using leuco Patent Blue Violet and peroxidase. The reagent can also be applied in the same concentration range to the ethyl acetate extraction method described previously. This allows hydrogen peroxide to be determined in the presence of a variety of species which interfere in the direct method. A reagent consisting of leuco Patent Blue Violet, peroxidase, glucose oxidase and mutarotase was also applied to the determination of glucose.
