This study examines the application of coupled-column LC-photochemically induced fluorimetry-fluorescence detection (LC-LC-PIF-FD), demonstrating its potential for the quantitative and selective detection of six herbicides, including propanil and the phenylureas monuron, monolinuron, chlorotoluron, diuron and neburon in groundwater samples. An AQUASIL C18 50 x 4.6 mm(2) id column coupled to an AQUASIL C18 150 x 4.6 mm(2) id column for analyte clean-up and determination were used, respectively. A simple SPE with Cl8 cartridges was carried out, yielding average recoveries between 80 and 112% (n = 6) with RSDs between 0.5 and 9%. The LODs ranged from 0.0083 to 0.0833 microg/L in the groundwater samples.  相似文献

The Galerkin finite element model (GFEM) may provide oscillatory results when employed to predict contaminant transport in groundwater unless a very fine mesh is used. Adaptation of a very fine mesh may make the application of the GFEM impractical to field problems. The Petrov—Galerkin finite element models (PGFEMs) can provide oscillation free results for relatively coarser mesh. However, the PGFEM violates the Galerkin principle and introduces large “numerical” dispersion. The objective of this paper has been to develop accurate criteria to improve the applicability of the GFEM to obtain oscillation free accurate results for coarser mesh and compare its performance with that of the PGFEM. It has been shown that the GFEM provides oscillation free accurate results for coarser mesh with Peclet number Pe 20. Further, the GFEM prediction has always been more accurate than the PGFEM for a variety of source configurations and flow fields.  相似文献

Oil shale ash(OSA) supported nanoscaled zero-valent iron(OSA-nZVI) was used as a rapid and efficient reductant for Cr(VI) reduction. The optimal mass ratio of nZVI to OSA and the optimal dosage were explored. The effects of initial pH, reaction temperature, initial Cr(VI) concentration, and common cations and anions in groundwater on Cr(VI) reduction were determined in batch experiments. The results show that the optimum initial pH is 5.0. The reaction temperature has a positive effect on Cr(VI) reduction while the real groundwater has a negative effect. Additionally, 84.22% Cr(VI) was still reduced by 3 g/L OSA-nZVI(1:2)(mass ratio of OSA to Fe0 was 1:2) within 120 min for 50 mg/L Cr(VI) under conditions of 10℃ and unadjusted pH.  相似文献

The differences between δ18O and δ2H in throughfall and open rainfall were studied for a selected typhoon event in a watershed within the Taihu Lake drainage basin, eastern China. In this event, the isotopic composition of precipitation exhibited a strong temporal variation. Comparison results show that an isotopic composition difference existed not only between gross rainfall and average incremental rainfall, but also between different calculation methods used to derive average. The differences between incremental precipitation and throughfall isotopic composition were observed in this study. Considering the temporal variation in rainfall and throughfall during this typhoon event, the incremental value can have an effect on hydrograph separation more accurately in evaluating the importance of ‘new’ water. In addition, isotopic fluctuations of surface water and groundwater differed from those of rainfall and throughfall throughout the event.  相似文献

Stable isotopes of water, organic micropollutants and hydrochemistry data are powerful tools for identifying different water types in areas where knowledge of the spatial distribution of different groundwater is critical for water resource management. An important question is how the assessments change if only one or a subset of these tracers is used. In this study, we estimate spatial artificial infiltration along an infiltration system with stage–discharge relationships and classify different water types based on the mentioned hydrochemistry data for a drinking water production area in Switzerland. Managed aquifer recharge via surface water that feeds into the aquifer creates a hydraulic barrier between contaminated groundwater and drinking water wells. We systematically compare the information from the aforementioned tracers and illustrate differences in distribution and mixing ratios. Despite uncertainties in the mixing ratios, we found that the overall spatial distribution of artificial infiltration is very similar for all the tracers. The highest infiltration occurred in the eastern part of the infiltration system, whereas infiltration in the western part was the lowest. More balanced infiltration within the infiltration system could cause the elevated groundwater mound to be distributed more evenly, preventing the natural inflow of contaminated groundwater.

Determination of chromium in groundwater samples containing iron may pose analytical problems due to sorption and fixation of chromium species onto Fe(III) hydroxides. Parks et al. (Water Res. 2004, 38, 2827) hypothesized that chromium species trapped inside Fe(III) hydroxides i.e. “fixed chromium” may not be soluble by HNO3 digestion (APHA method 3030 B). In such cases, hydroxylamine digestion is required to release “fixed chromium”. To verify the hypothesis, we carried out this study on groundwater samples containing chromium and iron, using different methods of APHA and EPA. The results showed the presence of “fixed chromium”, ranged between 0.1 and 19.2 μg L− 1, contributing 0.2 to 14.1% towards true total chromium. Digestion of samples with HNO3 released Cr(III) bound to organic complexes, but not the “fixed chromium”. The hydroxylamine digestion released “fixed chromium”, but not the Cr(III) bound to organic complexes. Microwave digestion of samples with HNO3 + HCl was effective for the release of both “fixed” and “Cr(III)-organic complexes”. Cr(III) was only adsorbed onto suspended matter, whereas Cr(VI), and Cr(III)-organic complexes were not adsorbed onto suspended matter due to their solubility. Sample pH, buffering capacity, and matrix have a significant influence on the adsorption and fixation of chromium species onto Fe(III) hydroxides.  相似文献

Abstract This article presents an economic, hydrological, dynamic optimization model, which describes the negative external effects of nitrogen fertilizers on groundwater quality. The relative merits of treatment versus prevention of nitrogen pollution were analyzed. A dynamical water and nitrogen flow between land surface, the unsaturated zone, and groundwater was employed. A specific treatment technology, which gives rise to a discontinuous cost function, was also used. Applying the model to the coastal aquifer in Israel, our results showed that in a joint (agricultural and domestic) water source area that supplies a relatively small quantity of drinking water, it is more efficient to combine a policy that imposes restrictions on the use of nitrogen with a drinking‐water treatment process. However, when a relatively large quantity of drinking water is involved, imposing restrictions on the use of nitrogen only is more efficient. The paper, thus, is useful to planners of fast growing urban population centers with regard to regulation and can be used to calculate and evaluate specific policies.  相似文献

In this study, biostimulation technology was used for bioremediation of nitrobenzene-contaminated groundwater by adding a mixture of lactose and phosphate, peptone, and beef extract. During the process of biostimulation, the remediation effectiveness, microbial dehydrogenase activities and microbial densities were investigated; the varieties of microbial community structure and composition were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(PCR-DGGE) technique and the relative abundances of nitrobenzene-degrading gene(nbzA) were determined by fluorescence quantitative real-time PCR(RT-PCR). Findings show that the removal rate of nitrobenzene in groundwater could reach about 60% by biostimulation with lactose and phosphate, 70% with peptone and 68% with beef extract. The microbial dehydrogenase activities and microbial densities were all improved obviously via biostimulation. The results of PCR-DGGE show that the microbial diversities were improved, and more than ten kinds of dominant microorganisms were detected after biostimulation. RT-PCR results show that the relative abundances of nbzA gene of microbes in groundwater were increased significantly, which indicated that biostimulation actually enhanced the growth of nitrobenzene-degrading bacteria. Therefore, biostimulation is a cost-effective and feasible bioremediation technique for nitrobenzene-contaminated groundwater.  相似文献

Stable isotopes of hydrogen (2H) and oxygen (18O) of the water molecule were used to assess the relationship between precipitation, surface water and groundwater in a large Russia/Ukraine trans-boundary river basin. Precipitation was sampled from November 2013 to February 2015, and surface water and groundwater were sampled during high and low flow in 2014. A local meteoric water line was defined for the Ukrainian part of the basin. The isotopic seasonality in precipitation was evident with depletion in heavy isotopes in November–March and an enrichment in April–October, indicating continental and temperature effects. Surface water was enriched in stable water isotopes from upstream to downstream sites due to progressive evaporation. Stable water isotopes in groundwater indicated that recharge occurs mainly during winter and spring. A one-year data set is probably not sufficient to report the seasonality of groundwater recharge, but this survey can be used to identify the stable water isotopes framework in a weakly gauged basin for further hydrological and geochemical studies.  相似文献
