Environmental assessment is increasingly important in preventing various types of pollutions. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) has been long used as an operational performance measure, but we have insufficiently explored the use of DEA for environmental assessment. This study explores a new use of DEA for the environmental assessment in which outputs are classified into desirable (good) and undesirable (bad) outputs. Such an output separation is important in the DEA-based environmental assessment. This study extends the use of DEA to the measurement of both Returns to Scale (RTS) for desirable outputs and Damages to Scale (DTS) for undesirable outputs. A Range-Adjusted Measure (RAM) is used as a DEA model for this study because the non-radial model can easily combine the two types of outputs in a unified treatment. All the mathematical features regarding the RAM-based RTS/DTS measurement are first discussed from the operational and environmental performance in a separate treatment. Then, this study combines the two performance measures as a unified measure. Ionic liquid–salt aqueous two-phase flotation (ILATPF) is a novel, green, non-toxic and sensitive samples pretreatment technique. ILATPF coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed for the analysis of chloramphenicol, which combines ionic liquid aqueous two-phase system (ILATPS) based on imidazolium ionic liquid (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, [C4mim]Cl) and inorganic salt (K2HPO4) with solvent sublation. In ILATPF systems, phase behaviors of the ILATPF were studied for different types of ionic liquids and salts. The sublation efficiency of chloramphenicol in [C4mim]Cl–K2HPO4 ILATPF was influenced by the types of salts, concentration of K2HPO4 in aqueous solution, solution pH, nitrogen flow rate, sublation time and the amount of [C4mim]Cl. Under the optimum conditions, the average sublation efficiency is up to 98.5%. The mechanism of ILATPF contains two principal processes. One is the mechanism of IL–salt ILATPS formation, the other is solvent sublation. This method was practical when applied to the analysis of chloramphenicol in lake water, feed water, milk, and honey samples with the linear range of 0.5–500 ng mL−1. The method yielded limit of detection (LOD) of 0.1 ng mL−1 and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.3 ng mL−1. The recovery of CAP was 97.1–101.9% from aqueous samples of environmental and food samples by the proposed method. Compared with liquid–liquid extraction, solvent sublation and ionic liquid aqueous two-phase extraction, ILATPF can not only separate and concentrate chloramphenicol with high sublation efficiency, but also efficiently reduce the wastage of IL. In this contribution, powdered activated carbons (ACs) from cork waste were supported for bar adsorptive micro-extraction (BAμE), as novel adsorbent phases for the analysis of polar compounds. By combining this approach with liquid desorption followed by high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection (BAμE(AC)-LD/HPLC-DAD), good analytical performance was achieved using clofibric acid (CLOF) and ibuprofen (IBU) model compounds in environmental and biological matrices. Assays performed on 30 mL water samples spiked at the 25.0 μg L(-1) level yielded recoveries around 80% for CLOF and 95% for IBU, under optimized experimental conditions. The ACs textural and surface chemistry properties were correlated with the results obtained. The analytical performance showed good precision (<15%), suitable detection limits (0.24 and 0.78 μg L(-1) for CLOF and IBU, respectively) and good linear dynamic ranges (r(2)>0.9922) from 1.0 to 600.0 μg L(-1). By using the standard addition methodology, the application of the present approach to environmental water and urine matrices allowed remarkable performance at the trace level. The proposed methodology proved to be a viable alternative for acidic pharmaceuticals analysis, showing to be easy to implement, reliable, sensitive and requiring low sample volume to monitor these priority compounds in environmental and biological matrices. 相似文献

During the 20th century, population growth and urbanization, together with changes in production and consumption, have placed unprecedented demands on the quality of water. The ongoing extraordinary economic growth, industrialization, and urbanization of many developing countries results in widespread water pollution from agricultural, industrial, and domestic sources. In consequence, people consume contaminated drinking water, thereby increasing the risk of exposure not only to infectious and parasitic disease but also to a growing volume of genotoxic and cytotoxic chemicals. In light of these trends, new, rapid and low-cost approaches are urgently needed to assess the quality of water supplies. Because of their simplicity and sensitivity, bacterial tests play an important role in the detection and screening of genotoxins or cytotoxins in water. Thus, the bacterial Lux-Fluoro test, which is a combination of two bioassays that simultaneously measure the genotoxicity (SOS-Lux test) and the cytotoxicity (LAC-Fluoro test), was used to identify polluted water from samples of rural and urban sources, collected from 10 different locations in the Punjab rivers’ basin. We identified at least three samples from rural origin having a high cytotoxic potential. The highest toxicity was found for the sample obtained from a draining canal collecting runoff water from the fields. The two other highly contaminated samples identified were taken from two ponds of different villages. The water samples obtained from the Ravi river and from the water tap in a suburb of the megacity Lahore showed no sign of genotoxicity or cytotoxicity. A model is developed for multivariate distributions which have nearly the same marginals, up to shift and scale. This model, based on “interpolation” of characteristic functions, gives a new notion of “correlation”. It allows straightforward nonparametric estimation of the common marginal distribution, which avoids the “curse of dimensionality” present when nonparametically estimating the full multivariate distribution. The method is illustrated with environmental monitoring network data, where multivariate modelling with common marginals is often appropriate. 相似文献
