Inhomogeneous discrete calderón reproducing formulas for spaces of homogeneous type

In this article a Littlewood-Paley theorem for a new kind of Littlewood-Paley g-functions over spaces of homogeneous type is presented. Based on it the authors establish inhomogeneous discrete Calderón reproducing formulas for spaces of homogeneous type, making use of Calderón-Zygmund operators.     

Pompeiu sets in compact Heisenberg manifolds

A necessary and sufficient condition is presented for a set to be a Pompeiu subset of any compact homogeneous space with a finite invariant measure. The condition, which is expressed in terms of the intertwining operators of each primary summand of the quasi-regular representation, is then interpreted in the case of the compact Heisenberg manifolds. Examples are presented demonstrating that the condition to be Pompeiu in these manifolds is quite different from the corresponding condition for a torus of the same dimension. This provides a contrast with the existing comparison between the Heisenberg group itself and Euclidean space in terms of Pompeiu sets. In addition, the closed linear span of all translates of any square integrable function on any compact homogeneous space is determined.     

Limit sets of automatic sequences

We show that for every k-automatic sequence there exists a natural number p>0 such that the sequences of the form (k^pn+j)_n?0 with j=0,…,p−1 are scaling sequences for f. Moreover, we demonstrate that every limit set is the union of certain basic limit sets.     

Multiple bifurcation branches for variational inequalities

We prove the existence of two bifurcation branches for a variational inequality in a case when the corresponding asymptotic problem is nonsymmetric. We use a nonsmooth variational framework and a blow-up argument which allows to find multiple critical points possibly at the same level. An application to plates with obstacle is presented.     

Solvability of Semilinear Hemivariational Inequalities at Resonance Using Generalized Landesman–Lazer Conditions

In this paper we examine semilinear hemivariational inequalities at resonance at any eigenvalue of the negative Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary condition. Our approach is variational based on the Nonsmooth Critical Point Theory and it uses a generalized Landesman–Lazer condition. We prove two existence theorems using two different forms of the generalized Landesman–Lazer condition. In the last section we show that our Landesman-Lazer condition is more general than the ones existing in the literature.     

Existence results for semilinear elliptic variational inequalities with changing sign nonlinearities

In this paper we present some existence results for a class of semilinear elliptic variational inequalities, depending on a real parameter λ, with changing sign nonlinearities. The fundamental tool to prove the existence result is a penalization method combined with the Mountain Pass Theorem and the Linking Theorem, respectively in the case λ < λ ₁ and λ ≥ λ ₁, where λ₁ is the first eigenvalue of the uniformly elliptic operator A involved in the variational inequality.     

L 2-torsion of hyperbolic manifolds

We show that the L ²-torsion of odd dimensional hyperbolic manifolds, which is proportional to the volume, is non-zero. This proves a conjecture of Lott. Received: 27 March 1998     

Balayage Properties Related to Rational Interpolation

Ambroladze and Wallin have posed several problems, about balayage of measures, which arose from work on approximation by polynomial and rational interpolation in the complex plane. These problems concern the possible coincidence of measures swept onto a Jordan curve from the inner and outer domains. This paper describes when the desired balayage properties hold.     

The exact hausdorff dimension of a branching set
