We study a coupled nonlinear boundary value problem which has been shown to have applications to fluid flow and heat transfer in a fluid film over a stretching surface for set values of the model parameters (one of which determines the size of the problem domain). For arbitrary values of these parameters we are able to establish the existence and uniqueness of a class of monotone solutions. Perturbation solutions are then constructed and used to approximate certain invariants for the solutions. We then study a related boundary value problem formed by imposing an additional boundary condition on one of the governing equations (which results in an ill-posed problem), and we arrive at conditions allowing for solutions to this four-parameter problem to agree with the solutions to the three-parameter problem. 相似文献

We present a finite difference scheme for a class of linear singularly perturbed boundary value problems with two small parameters. The problem is discretized using a Bakhvalov-type mesh. It is proved under certain conditions that this scheme is fourth-order accurate and that its error does not increase when the perturbation parameter tends to zero. Asset price dynamics is studied by using a system of ordinary differential equations which is derived by utilizing a new excess demand function introduced by Caginalp [4] for a market involving more information on demand and supply for a stock rather than their values at a particular price. Derivation is based on the finiteness of assets (rather than assuming unbounded arbitrage) in addition to investment strategies that are based on not only price momentum (trend) but also valuation considerations. Following the success of a study on the method of fundamental solutions using an image concept [13], we extend to solve the three-dimensional Laplace problems containing spherical boundaries by using the three approaches. The case of eccentric sphere for the Laplace problem is considered. The optimal locations for the source distribution to include the foci in the MFS are also examined by using the image concept in the 3D problems. Whether a free constant is required or not in the MFS is also studied. The error distribution is discussed after comparing with the analytical solution derived by using the bispherical coordinates. Besides, the relationship between the Trefftz bases and the singularity in the MFS for the three-dimensional Laplace problems is also addressed. It is found that one source of the MFS contains several interior and exterior Trefftz sets through a degenerate kernel. On the contrary, one single Trefftz base can be superimposed by some lumped sources in the MFS through an indirect BIEM. Based on this finding, the relationship between the fictitious boundary densities of the indirect BIEM and the singularity strength in the MFS can be constructed due to the fact that the MFS is a lumped version of an indirect BIEM. 相似文献

A procedure for the construction of high-order explicit parallel Runge-Kutta-Nyström (RKN) methods for solving second-order nonstiff initial value problems (IVPs) is analyzed. The analysis reveals that starting the procedure with a reference symmetric RKN method it is possible to construct high-order RKN schemes which can be implemented in parallel on a small number of processors. These schemes are defined by means of a convex combination of k disjoint si-stage explicit RKN methods which are constructed by connecting si steps of a reference explicit symmetric method. Based on the reference second-order Störmer-Verlet methods we derive a family of high-order explicit parallel schemes which can be implemented in variable-step codes without additional cost. The numerical experiments carried out show that the new parallel schemes are more efficient than some sequential and parallel codes proposed in the scientific literature for solving second-order nonstiff IVPs. 相似文献
