A novel solid support for the synthesis of 3-aminoalkylated oligonucleotides

A novel improved controlled pore glass (CPG) support based on the 2-(hydroxymethyl)-6-nitrobenzoyl (HMNB) protecting group was developed for the synthesis of 3^′-aminoalkylated oligonucleotides. The release of oligonucleotides with free 3^′-amino groups from the support is complete within 2 h at 55 °C in concentrated ammonia.     

Differential pulse voltammetric determination of trace Te(IV) at a poly(3,3′-diaminobenzidine) film modified gold electrode in flow systems

Electropolymerization of 3,3′-diaminobenzidine on a gold surface gave an adherent, stable film of poly(3,3′-diaminobenzidine) (PDAB). This polymer film retained the complexational functionalities of its monomer, demonstrating preconcentration abilities for several ions, including Se(IV) and Te(IV). In particular, in this work, continuous flow and flow injection methods were developed for the sensitive and selective determination of Te(IV). The optimized method for the continuous flow mode had a detection limit of 5.6×10⁻⁹ mol l⁻¹ for 10 min preconcentration. Typical relative standard deviations for six consecutive determinations were 1.82 and 2.56% for Te(IV) concentrations of 1.0×10⁻⁶ and 5.0×10⁻⁸ mol l⁻¹, respectively (10 min preconcentration). The method was applied to the determination of Te(IV) in real samples.     

Numerical comparison of several variable-metric algorithms

The paper compares the numerical performances of the LDL decomposition of the BFGS variable-metric algorithm, the Dennis-Mei dogleg algorithm on the BFGS update, and Davidon's projections with the BFGS update with the straight BFGS update on a number of standard test problems. Numerical results indicate that the standard BFGS algorithm is superior to all of the more complex strategies.This research was supported by the National Science Foundation under Research Grant No. MCS77-07327.     

The first indium-organic two-dimensional layer network with rhombus grids

The indium(III)-organic compound [In(HBtc)₂(4,4′-bpy)](4,4′-Hbpy)(H₂O)_0.5 (Btc=1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate, 4,4′-bpy=4,4′-bipyridine) has been synthesized under hydrothermal condition and characterized by IR, fluorescent spectroscopy, TGA and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. The compound crystallizes in monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c, a=17.0884(2) Å, b=12.28390(10) Å, c=17.9456(4) Å, β=104.1920(10)°, V=3652.03(10) Å³, Z=4, R₁=0.0572 and wR₂=0.1116 [I>2σ(I)]. All the indium atoms in the compound are hepta-coordinated and link 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate forming a 2-D layer structure with rhombus grids.     

New reagent for the preparation of oligonucleotides involving a 5′-thiophosphate or a 5′-phosphate group

We report here a novel, simple reagent enabling the chemical incorporation of a thiophosphate or a phosphate group at the 5′-end of oligonucleotides using very mild basic deprotection conditions. This method can be useful in the case of alkali sensitive modified oligonucleotides. This reagent also gives access to the preparation of bifunctional oligonucleotides with either a thiophosphate group at the 5′-end and a phosphate at the 3′-end, or two thiophosphate groups at both the 5′- and the 3′-ends, or a 5′-thiophosphate group and a 3′-amino-containing linker.     

New optically active organoantimony (BINASb) and bismuth (BINABi) compounds comprising a 1,1′-binaphthyl core: synthesis and their use in transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of ketones

Racemic 2,2′-bis[diarylstibano]-1,1′-binaphthyls [(±)-BINASbs] and 2,2′-bis[di(p-tolyl)bismuthano]-1,1′-binaphthyl [(±)-BINABi], which are the antimony and bismuth congeners of BINAP, have been prepared from 2,2′-dibromo-1,1′-binaphthyl (DBBN) via 2,2′-dilithio-1,1′-binaphthyl intermediate by treatment with the appropriate metal halides [(p-Tol)₂SbBr, Ph₂SbBr and (p-Tol)₂BiCl]. The optical resolution of the (±)-BINASbs could be achieved via the separation of a mixture of the diastereomeric Pd-complexes derived from the reaction of (±)-BINASbs with di-μ-chlorobis{(S)-2-[1-(dimethylamino)-ethyl]phenyl-C¹,N}dipalladium(II). Optically active (R)-BINASb and (R)-BINABi could be also obtained from optically active (R)-DBBN by the same procedure. The enantiopure BINASbs have been shown to be effective chiral ligands for the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of ketones.     

Highly diastereoselective chemoenzymatic synthesis of (2′R)- and (2′S)-2′-deoxy[2′-H]guanosines

In an effort to develop an efficient synthetic method of highly diastereoselective (2′R)- and (2′S)-2′-deoxy[2′-²H]guanosines, chemoenzymatic conversion was investigated. The synthesis of (2′R > 98% de)-2′-deoxy[2′-²H]guanosine was achieved by biological transdeoxyribosylation using (2′R > 98% de)-2′-deoxy[2′-²H]uridine, 2,6-diaminopurine, and Enterobacter aerogenes AJ-11125, followed by treatment with adenosine deaminase. (2′S > 98% de)-2′-Deoxy[2′-²H]guanosine was synthesized from (2′S > 98% de)-2′-deoxy[2′-²H]uridine and 2,6-diaminopurine using thymidine phosphorylase and purine nucleoside phosphorylase instead of E. aerogenes AJ-11125.     

Synthesis of furan 4′-thio-C-nucleosides, their methylsulfonium and sulfoxide derivatives. Evaluation as glycosidase inhibitors

A series of furan C-nucleosides having a sulfur atom in the sugar ring were synthesised. The α and β anomers of 3-ethoxycarbonyl-2-methyl-5-(4′-thio-d-erythrofuranosyl)furans 10 and 11 were obtained by acid treatment of (4′-S-acetyl-4′-thio-d-arabino-tetritol-1-yl)furan 9. Oxidation of 10 with m-chloroperbenzoic acid gave sulfoxide 12 as one epimer at the sulfur atom whereas 11 was transformed into sulfoxide 13 as an epimeric mixture. S-Methylation of 10 and 11 with methyl triflate led to sulfonium salts 14 and 15. The prepared compounds were found to be moderate inhibitors of α-l-fucosidase.     

Evaluation of Multicenter Electronic Attraction, Electric Field and Electric Field Gradient Integrals with Screened and Nonscreened Coulomb Potentials over Integer and Noninteger n Slater Orbitals

By the use of complete orthonormal sets of -exponential-type orbitals, where ( = 1, 0, –1, –2,...) the multicenter electronic attraction (EA), electric field (EF) and electric field gradient (EFG) integrals of nonscreened and Yukawa-like screened Coulomb potentials are expressed through the two-center overlap integrals with the same screening constants and the auxiliary functions introduced in our previous paper (I.I. Guseinov, J. Phys. B, 3 (1970) 1399). The recurrence relations for auxiliary functions are useful for the calculation of multicenter EA, EF and EFG integrals for arbitrary integer and noninteger values of principal quantum numbers, screening constants, and location of slater-type orbitals. The convergence of the series is tested by calculating concrete cases.     

Synthesis of pyridine and 2,2′-bipyridine derivatives from the aza Diels-Alder reaction of substituted 1,2,4-triazines

Amidrazone 1a and the tricarbonyl derivatives 2b-d reacted in boiling ethanol in the presence of 2,5-norbornadiene 5 giving the pyridine derivatives 6b-d respectively (59-72%) and in the presence of 2,3-dihydrofuran 7 yielding the lactones 10b-d (39-44%). The 2,2′-bipyridine derivatives 6e-g were similarly obtained in good yield (81-87%) from the reaction of amidrazone 1b and tricarbonyl derivatives 2b-d in the presence of 2,5-norbornadiene 5.
