Understanding factors that limit enzymatic hydrolysis of biomass

Spectroscopic characterization of both untreated and treated material is being performed in order to determine changes in the biomass and the effects of pretreatment on crystallinity, lignin content, selected chemical bonds, and depolymerization of hemicellulose and lignin. The methods used are X-ray diffraction for determination of cellulose crystallinity (CrI); diffusive reflectance infrared (DRIFT) for changes in C-C and C-O bonds; and fluorescence to determine lignin content. Changes in spectral characteristics and crystallinity are statistically correlated with enzymatic hydrolysis results to identify and better understand the fundamental features of biomass that govern its enzymatic conversion to monomeric sugars. Models of the hydrolysis initial rate and 72 h extent of conversion were developed and evaluated. Results show that the hydrolysis initial rate is most influenced by the cellulose crystallinity, while lignin content most influences the extent of hydrolysis at 72 h. However, it should be noted that in this study only crystallinity, lignin, and selected chemical bonds were used as inputs to the models. The incorporation of additional parameters that affect the hydrolysis, like pore volume and size and surface area accessibility, would improve the predictive capability of the models.

Numerical multilinear algebra and its applications

Numerical multilinear algebra (or called tensor computation), in which instead of matrices and vectors the higher-order tensors are considered in numerical viewpoint, is a new branch of computational mathematics. Although it is an extension of numerical linear algebra, it has many essential differences from numerical linear algebra and more difficulties than it. In this paper, we present a survey on the state of the art knowledge on this topic, which is incomplete, and indicate some new trends for further research. Our survey also contains a detailed bibliography as its important part. We hope that this new area will be receiving more attention of more scholars.      

Commutators of pseudo-differential operators

In this paper, the boundedness of commutators generated by pseudo-differential operators and BMO functions is discussed on Lebesgue spaces.     

Approximation numbers of nuclear and Hilbert-Schmidt multilinear forms defined on Hilbert spaces

We deal with multilinear forms t defined on Hilbert spaces and we investigate the relationships between nuclearity of t (respectively to be of Hilbert-Schmidt type) and summability properties of certain approximation numbers of t.     

WEIGHTED L^p BOUNDEDNESS FOR MULTILINEAR FRACTIONAL INTEGRAL ON PRODUCT SPACES

For 0 〈 α 〈 mn and nonnegative integers n ≥ 2, m≥ 1, the multilinear fractional integral is defined bywhere →y= （y1, Y2,…, ym） and 7 denotes the m-tuple （f1, f2,…, fm）. In this note, the one- weighted and two-weighted boundedness on Lp （JRn） space for multilinear fractional integral operator I（am） and the fractional multi-sublinear maximal operator Mα（m） are established re- spectively. The authors also obtain two-weighted weak type estimate for the operator Mα（m）.     

THE BOUNDEDNESS OF MAXIMAL BOCHNER-RIESZ OPERATOR AND MAXIMAL COMMUTATOR ON MORREY TYPE SPACES

The boundedness of maximal Bochner-Riesz operator B^δ＊ and that of maximal commutator B^bδ＊, generated by this operator and Lipschitz function on the classical Morrey space and generalized Morrey space are established.     

Boundedness for iterated commutators on the mixed norm spaces

This paper studies the iterated commutators on mixed norm spaces L²(?) characterizing the conjugate holomorphic symbols for which the corresponding iterated commutators are bounded by using the Bergman geometry, properties of holomorphic functions and related analysis.
