Robinson has proposed the bundle-based decomposition algorithm to solve a class of structured large-scale convex optimization problems. In this method, the original problem is transformed (by dualization) to an unconstrained nonsmooth concave optimization problem which is in turn solved by using a modified bundle method. In this paper, we give a posteriori error estimates on the approximate primal optimal solution and on the duality gap. We describe implementation and present computational experience with a special case of this class of problems, namely, block-angular linear programming problems. We observe that the method is efficient in obtaining the approximate optimal solution and compares favorably with MINOS and an advanced implementation of the Dantzig—Wolfe decomposition method.  相似文献

Linear programming duality is well understood and the reduced cost of a column is frequently used in various algorithms. On the other hand, for integer programs it is not clear how to define a dual function even though the subadditive dual theory has been developed a long time ago. In this work we propose a family of computationally tractable subadditive dual functions for integer programs. We develop a solution methodology that computes an optimal primal solution and an optimal subadditive dual function. We present computational experiments, which show that the new algorithm is tractable.  相似文献

This work shows how disjunctive cuts can be generated for a bilevel linear programming problem (BLP) with continuous variables. First, a brief summary on disjunctive programming and bilevel programming is presented. Then duality theory is used to reformulate BLP as a disjunctive program and, from there, disjunctive programming results are applied to derive valid cuts. These cuts tighten the domain of the linear relaxation of BLP. An example is given to illustrate this idea, and a discussion follows on how these cuts may be incorporated in an algorithm for solving BLP.  相似文献

Newton’s method is a basic tool in numerical analysis and numerous applications, including operations research and data mining. We survey the history of the method, its main ideas, convergence results, modifications, its global behavior. We focus on applications of the method for various classes of optimization problems, such as unconstrained minimization, equality constrained problems, convex programming and interior point methods. Some extensions (non-smooth problems, continuous analog, Smale’s results, etc.) are discussed briefly, while some others (e.g., versions of the method to achieve global convergence) are addressed in more details.  相似文献

对广义几何规划问题(GGP)提出了一个确定型全局优化算法,这类优化问题能广泛应用于工程设计和非线性系统的鲁棒稳定性分析等实际问题中,使用指数变换及对目标函数和约束函数的线性下界估计,建立了GGP的松弛线性规划(RLP),通过对RLP可行域的细分以及一系列RLP的求解过程,从理论上证明了算法能收敛到GGP的全局最优解,对一个化学工程设计问题应用本文算法,数值实验表明本文方法是可行的。  相似文献

We consider several applications of two state, finite action, infinite horizon, discrete-time Markov decision processes with partial observations, for two special cases of observation quality, and show that in each of these cases the optimal cost function is piecewise linear. This in turn allows us to obtain either explicit formulas or simplified algorithms to compute the optimal cost function and the associated optimal control policy. The two stage stochastic program with recourse is known to have numerous applications in financial planning, energy modeling, telecommunications systems etc. Notwithstanding its applicability, the two stage stochastic program is limited in its ability to incorporate a decision maker's attitudes towards risk. In this paper we present an extension via the inclusion of a recourse constraint. This results in a convex integrated chance constraint (ICC), which inherits the convexity properties of two stage programs. However, it also inherits some of the difficulties associated with the evaluation of recourse functions. This motivates our study of conditions that may be applicable to algorithms using statistical approximations of such ICC. We present a set of sufficient conditions that these approximations may satisfy in order to assure convergence. Our conditions are satisfied by a wide range of statistical approximations, and we demonstrate that these approximations can be generated within standard algorithmic procedures.This work was supported in part by Grant No. NSF-DDM-9114352 from the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Bilevel programming involves two optimization problems where the constraint region of the first-level problem is implicitly determined by another optimization problem. In this paper, we consider the case in which both objective functions are quasiconcave and the constraint region common to both levels is a polyhedron. First, it is proved that this problem is equivalent to minimizing a quasiconcave function over a feasible region comprised of connected faces of the polyhedron. Consequently, there is an extreme point of the polyhedron that solves the problem. Finally, it is shown that this model includes the most important case where the objective functions are ratios of concave and convex functions  相似文献
