Synthesis and Structure of a Manganese(Ⅱ) Complex: [Mn2·(dinitrobenzoic acid)4·(1,10-phen)2]n

The title compound, [Mn2·(dinitrobenzoic acid)4·(1,10-phen)2]n, has a linear chain structure containing binuclear [Mn2·(dinitrobenzoic acid)4(1,10-phen)2] repeat units. It crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P1- with a = 7.9261(8), b = 12.1329(15), c = 14.847(2)(A), α = 103.845(5), β =101.424(5), γ= 92.618(4)°, Mr= 657.37, V= 1352.3(2) (A)3, Z = 2, Dc= 1.614 g/cm3, F(000) = 666, μ =0.567 mm-1, the final R = 0.0407 and wR = 0.1015 for 4081 observed reflections with I ＞ 2σ(Ⅰ). The Mn atom is six-coordinated by two N and four O atoms, forming a slightly distorted octahedral geometry. All Mn-O and Mn-N bond distances range from 2.093(2) to 2.310(2)(A). Two adjacent octahedral units are bridged together by two pairs of bi-monodentate carboxyl groups of different dinitrobenzoic acids to form an eight-membered ring with chair-typed configuration, thus generating a one-dimensional chain along the a axis.     

The effect of side substituents on rotation hindrance in polyheteroarylenes

Hindered rotation was considered in calculations of the conformational parameters of a series of polyheteroarylenes with bulky side substituents by the Monte-Carlo method. Within the range of experimental errors, the results of calculations for several polyarylates coincide with the values of conformational rigidity, determined from hydrodynamic experimental data. The proposed procedure was used to estimate the rigidities of a number of polymers with bulky side substuents for which experimental determination is difficult. Oxobenzo[f]benzopyrans as new fluorescent photolabile protecting groups for the carboxylic function

The properties of three oxobenzo[f]benzopyrans as new fluorogenic photolabile protecting groups for the carboxylic function of amino acids were studied. Fluorescent amino acid conjugates were efficiently prepared and characterised. Photodeprotection of these compounds was carried out by irradiation at 300, 350 and 419 nm, the most suitable wavelength being 350 nm, on account of short irradiation times and good deprotection yields.     

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of N-Phenylbis（ferrocenecarboxyl）imide

The ferrocenyl compound,N-phenylbis(ferrocenecarboxyl)imide (C28H23NO2Fe2,Mr=517.17),was synthesized and structurally characterized by means of X-ray single-crystal dif-fraction. It crystallizes in monoclinic,space group C2/c with a=21.374(14),b=10.430(7),c= 10.741(7) ,β=114.184(8)°,V=2184(2) 3,Z=4,Dc=1.573 g/cm3,F(000)=1064,μ(MoKα)= 1.355 mm–1,T=291(2) K,the final R=0.0548 and wR=0.1437 for 1524 observed reflections with I > 2σ(I). In this compound,the nitrogen atom links two ferrocenyl groups and one phenyl group forming a novel imido derivative.     

Synthesis and characterization of surface-cyanofunctionalized poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) latexes

 A series of P[N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM)] latexes with different contents of cyano groups were successfully prepared by either seeded or shot-growth polymerizations of an aqueous solution containing acrylonitrile (AN) onto a seed P[NIPAM] latex, respectively, and further characterized by FT-IR, ¹H-NMR, elemental analysis, as well as by quasielastic light scattering (QELS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). All prepared surface-cyanofunctionalized P[NIPAM] latexes exhibited the same range of lower critical solution temperature (LCST) as a pure P[NIPAM] latex. The shot polymerization process proved more efficient at yielding cyano derivatized latexes than the seeded polymerization technique. The amount of incorporated cyano groups onto the particles was determined with a good correlation both by ¹H-NMR and elemental analysis. The higher the amount of initially introduced AN monomer in the reaction mixture, the more cyano groups were incorporated onto the particles. The surface of the particles with high content of cyano groups appeared quite rough by SEM in comparison with that of the pure P[NIPAM] particles. Synthesis and Structure Characterization of a Tetranuclear Manganese(Ⅲ) Complex:[Mn4O2(O2CMe)6(MeOH)2(dbm)2]·2MeCOOH·2CH2Cl2

The title compound, [Mn4O2(O2CMe)6(MeOH)2(dbm)2]·2MeCOOH·2CH2Cl2 (Hdbm = dibenzoylmethane), has been synthesized and structurally determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal belongs to triclinic, space group P(-l), with a = 10.729(3), b = 12.269(3), c =13.085(4) (A), a = 106.367(3), β = 107.643(2), γ = 94.771(2)°, V = 1547.9(7) (A)3, Z = 1,C50H64Cl4Mn4O24, Mr= 1410.57, Dc= 1.513 g/em3, F(000) = 724, Rint = 0.0147, T = 293(2) K and μ = 1.046 mm-1. The fimal R = 0.0359 and wR = 0.0938 for 5791 observed reflections with I ＞ 2( )I).The structure of the complex consists of one [Mn4(μ3-O)2]8+ core with four coplanar Mn atoms disposed in an extended "butterfly-like" arrangement and two O atoms triply bridging each "wing",and the peripheral ligation is provided by six μ2-MeCO2-, two terminalμ2-dbm- groups at the two hydrogen bonding interactions are found within the structure of the compound.     

The free loop space and the algebraic k-theory of spaces

For X = Y, the suspension of a connected space Y, we shall prove that the homotopy fibers Ã(X), B(X) of the maps A(X) A (point), B(X) B (point) are equivalent as infinite loop spaces.     

A generalized sandwich theorem

It is proved for an arbitrary commutative ring A with identity and any integer n3 that if H is a subgroup of GL_n(A) normalized by E _n(A,q), then there is an ideal of A such that E _n(A,) H GL _n (A, (:q⁴⁰).Furthermore, is uniquely determined up to a certain equivalence relation on the set of ideals of A. The result extends a theorem of Bak, by removing a stability condition he uses on A.     

Alginate Properties and Heavy Metal Biosorption by Marine Algae

The physical properties of the alginate component in four different brown seaweeds (Sargassumfluitans, Ascophyllum nodosum, Fucus vesiculo-sus, andLaminaria japonica) were characterized using potentiometric titration,¹³C-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), chemical analysis, and viscosity measurements. The heavy metal binding capacities of the corresponding seaweeds were directly proportional to their respective total carboxyl group content, and related to the electronegativity of the elements investigated (Ca, Zn, Cd, Cu, and Pb). The uronic acid composition or sequence of the alginate component did not affect the metal uptake properties of the biosorbents studied here. However, the alginate leaching owing to its solubilization by Na ions was observed to decrease with increasing intrinsic viscosity of the extracted alginate, related to its molecular weight, and with increasing apparent acidic dissociation constant, related to the alginate density inside the biomass.
