Fixed-sign solutions for a system of singular focal boundary value problems

We consider a system of focal boundary value problems where the nonlinearities may be singular in the independent variable and may also be singular in the dependent arguments. Using Schauder fixed point theorem, we establish criteria such that the system of boundary value problems has at least one fixed-sign solution.     

Nonlinear second-order equations with functional implicit impulses and nonlinear functional boundary conditions

In this paper we deal with nonlinear second-order boundary value problems with impulses. The impulsive functions depend implicitly on the different considered variables and the boundary value conditions are nonlinear. In both cases functional dependence on the solution is allowed. The existence results follow from the existence of a pair of well-ordered lower and upper solutions.     

Study of intermediates formed in the oxidation of thiols

The oxidation of aminoethanethiol (1) was investigated in acid solutions on a glass carbon anode. It was shown that at relatively low anode potentials thiyl radicals RS^· are released into the solution, but this does not lead to binding of the oxygen in the solution. Raising the anode potential leads to binding of oxygen, which is probably due to the formation of the intermediate RS⁺. The oxidation of 1 was studied in Ce(SO₄)₂+H₂SO₄ solution. It was shown that under certain conditions the intermediate is RS⁺, which subsequently converts to a product that could not be identified as any previously described product of the oxidation of thiols. On the blow-up rate of large solutions for a porous media logistic equation on radial domain

In this paper we establish the exact blow-up rate of the large solutions of a porous media logistic equation. We consider the carrying capacity function with a general decay rate at the boundary instead of the usual cases when it can be approximated by a distant function. Obtaining the accurate blow-up rate allows us to establish the uniqueness result. Our result covers all previous results on the ball domain and can be further adapted in a more general domain.     

Periodic and subharmonic solutions of a class of subquadratic second-order Hamiltonian systems

Some solvability conditions of periodic and subharmonic solutions are obtained for a class of subquadratic nonautonomous second-order Hamiltonian systems by the minimax methods in critical point theory.     

Simplified analytic solutions and a novel fast algorithm for Yb-doped double-clad fiber lasers

In this paper, continuous wave Yb³⁺-doped double-clad fiber lasers (DCFLs) with linear-cavity are investigated theoretically and numerically using the rate equations. Under the steady state conditions, the simplified analytic solutions of Yb³⁺-doped DCFLs under considering the scattering loss are deduced in the strongly pump condition. Compared with the known analytic solutions in published literatures, our analytic solutions are more accurate, especially, at higher reflectivity of output mirror. In addition, a fast and stable algorithm based on the Newton-Raphson method is proposed to simulate numerically Yb³⁺-doped DCFLs. The results by simplified analytic solutions are in good agreement with those by the numerical simulation. Moreover, we have performed the optimization of an Yb³⁺-doped DCFL using the simplified analytic solutions and the numerical simulations, respectively.
