In 2001, the European Commission published a policy statement ("White Paper") on future chemicals regulation and risk reduction that proposed the use of non-animal test systems and tailor-made testing approaches, including (Q)SARs, to reduce financial costs and the number of test animals employed. The authors have compiled a database containing data submitted within the EU chemicals notification procedure. From these data, (Q)SARs for the prediction of local irritation/corrosion and/or sensitisation potential were developed and published. These (Q)SARs, together with an expert system supporting their use, will be submitted for official validation and application within regulatory hazard assessment strategies. The main features are: ? two sets of structural alerts for the prediction of skin sensitisation hazard classification as defined by the European risk phrase R43, comprising 15 rules for chemical substructures deemed to be sensitising by direct action with cells or proteins, and three rules for substructures acting indirectly, i.e., requiring biochemical transformation; ? a decision support system (DSS) for the prediction of skin and/or eye lesion potential built from information extracted from our database. This DSS combines SARs defining reactive chemical substructures relevant for local lesions to be classified, and QSARs for the prediction of the absence of such a potential. The role of the BfR database, and (Q)SARs derived from it, in the use of current and future (EU) testing strategies for irritation and sensitisation is discussed.  相似文献

This paper investigates the Lamb wave imaging method combining time reversal for health monitoring of a metal-lic plate structure.The temporal focusing effect of the time reversal Lamb waves is investigated theoretically.It demonstrates that the focusing effect is related to the frequency dependency of the time reversal operation.Numerical simulations are conducted to study the time reversal behaviour of Lamb wave modes under broadband and narrowband excitations.The results show that the reconstructed time reversed wave exhibits close similarity to the reversed nar-rowband tone burst signal validating the theoretical model.To enhance the similarity,the cycle number of the excited signal should be increased.Experiments combining finite element model are then conducted to study the imaging method in the presence of damage like hole in the plate structure.In this work,the time reversal technique is used for the recompression of Lamb wave signals.Damage imaging results with time reversal using broadband and narrowband excitations are compared to those without time reversal.It suggests that the narrowband excitation combined time reversal can locate and determine the size of structural damage more precisely,but the cycle number of the excited signal should be chosen reasonably.  相似文献

Medical records contain many terms that are difficult to process. Our aim in this study is to allow visual exploration of the information in medical databases where texts present a large number of syntactic variations and abbreviations by using an interface that facilitates content identification, navigation, and information retrieval. We propose the use of multi-term tag clouds as content representation tools and as assistants for browsing and querying tasks. The tag cloud generation is achieved by using a novelty mathematical method that allows related terms to remain grouped together within the tags. To evaluate this proposal, we have carried out a survey over a spanish database with 24,481 records. For this purpose, 23 expert users in the medical field were tasked to test the interface and answer some questions in order to evaluate the generated tag clouds properties. In addition, we obtained a precision of 0.990, a recall of 0.870, and a F1-score of 0.904 in the evaluation of the tag cloud as an information retrieval tool. The main contribution of this approach is that we automatically generate a visual interface over the text capable of capturing the semantics of the information and facilitating access to medical records, obtaining a high degree of satisfaction in the evaluation survey.  相似文献

The microbiome emits informative signals of biological organization and environmental pressure that aid ecosystem monitoring and prediction. Are the many signals reducible to a habitat-specific portfolio that characterizes ecosystem health? Does an optimally structured microbiome imply a resilient microbiome? To answer these questions, we applied our novel Eco-Evo Mandala to bacterioplankton data from four habitats within the Great Barrier Reef, to explore how patterns in community structure, function and genetics signal habitat-specific organization and departures from theoretical optimality. The Mandala revealed communities departing from optimality in habitat-specific ways, mostly along structural and functional traits related to bacterioplankton abundance and interaction distributions (reflected by ϵ and λ as power law and exponential distribution parameters), which are not linearly associated with each other. River and reef communities were similar in their relatively low abundance and interaction disorganization (low ϵ and λ) due to their protective structured habitats. On the contrary, lagoon and estuarine inshore reefs appeared the most disorganized due to the ocean temperature and biogeochemical stress. Phylogenetic distances (D) were minimally informative in characterizing bacterioplankton organization. However, dominant populations, such as Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Cyanobacteria, were largely responsible for community patterns, being generalists with a large functional gene repertoire (high D) that increases resilience. The relative balance of these populations was found to be habitat-specific and likely related to systemic environmental stress. The position on the Mandala along the three fundamental traits, as well as fluctuations in this ecological state, conveys information about the microbiome’s health (and likely ecosystem health considering bacteria-based multitrophic dependencies) as divergence from the expected relative optimality. The Eco-Evo Mandala emphasizes how habitat and the microbiome’s interaction network topology are first- and second-order factors for ecosystem health evaluation over taxonomic species richness. Unhealthy microbiome communities and unbalanced microbes are identified not by macroecological indicators but by mapping their impact on the collective proportion and distribution of interactions, which regulates the microbiome’s ecosystem function.  相似文献

Fresh and processed food products are rich in bioactive molecules, including polysaccharides, vitamins, carotenoids, peptides, antioxidants, phenolics, phytosterols, and novel lipids. Bioactive molecules in food could prevent several diseases (i.e., metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, etc.). Thus, consumer awareness is growing about the health-promoting impact of food bioactive molecules. Health claims are essential added-value features, wherein health-enhancing potential of bioactives depend on their chemical structure. On the other hand, the investigation of the structure-function relationship of food bioactive molecules is of importance. In this regard, Molecules is delighted to highlight the importance of food bioactive molecules and their effect on health. Carrageenan-based (CRG) hard capsules have a slower disintegration rate compared to that of gelatin capsules. Therefore, there is an urgent need to optimize the performance of this material using the oligomerization process. The preparation was conducted by oligomerizing CRG, cross-linking it with maltodextrin (MD), and plasticizing it with sorbitol (SOR). Based on our research, we found that the capsule prepared with the code CRG(O)-MD/SOR had an ash content of 11.80% and a water content of 17.20 ± 1.20 %. No microbes or yeast were found in the capsule, and only negligible amounts of heavy metal traces were present. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) morphology analysis of the capsule surface showed that no pores were observed, even at a magnification of 10,000 times. This result was supported by the BET-BJH analysis, which showed that the pores had an average diameter of 49.26 Ǻ. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the Tg of the prepared capsules was at 51.4 °C. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis showed that the presence of citric acid as the oligomerization agent had changed the chain composition of the carrageenan. Acute toxicity analysis showed that the capsule was safe even at a dose of 3,000 mg/bw. The Young's modulus of CRG(O)-MD/SOR was determined to be 1.500 ± 0.52 MPa. In vitro disintegration testing of CRG(O)-MD/SOR showed that the capsule required 20.01 ± 1.13 mins, 23.13 ± 1.14 mins, and more than 120 mins to disintegrate at pH 1.2, 4.5, and 6.8, respectively. Release kinetics analyses showed that the drugs paracetamol (PCT) and salicylamide (SCA) followed the zeroth-order model at pH 1.2 and 4.5, while they were best described by the Peppas-Sahlin model at pH 6.8. Finally, the maximum swelling degree of the CRG(O)-MD/SOR hard capsule was determined to be 708.88%, which was reached in 15.22 mins. This capsule has the potential to be used as an alternative to conventional hard capsules on a broader scale. Furthermore, this work supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 3, good health and well-being, by providing a capsule made from biomaterial.  相似文献

Finding damages and their prevalence in structures is a very challenging problem. In order to identify potential structural damage, non-destructive methods are not very helpful. One of the most popular piezoelectric ceramic materials used worldwide is macromolecular lead zirconate titanate (PZT), also known as Pb[Zr(x)Ti(1-x)]O3. PZT transducers are proving to be a successful alternative for assessing the structure's health. The Macro-molecular PZT's self-actuating and sensing properties are utilized by the electromechanical impedance (EMI) method. In this capacity, the macro-molecular PZT patches serve as co-located actuators and sensors and make use of ultrasonic vibrations to produce a distinctive admittance “signature” of the structure. PZT patches perform exceptionally well in terms of damage sensitivity. The higher modes of vibration are locally activated by the local application of an AC source on the PZT transducers attached to the host structure. The alteration of the admittance response is a sign of injury to the transducer's vicinity. In the current study, the damage percentage and its location in a 150 × 150 × 150 mm concrete cube are being examined. Regression analysis is also used to determine the concrete cube's strength. This method also can identify hair-like cracks at an early stage, which explains how it can shield the building from serious failures.  相似文献
