Terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexer based tree-net architecture for all-optical conversion scheme from binary to its other 2n radix based form

To exploit the parallelism of optics in data processing,a suitable number system and an efficient encoding/decoding scheme for handling the data are very essential.In the field of optical computing and parallel information processing,several number systems like binary,quaternary,octal,hexadecimal,etc.have been used for different arithmetic and algebraic operations.Here,we have proposed an all-optical conversion scheme from its binary to its other 2n radix based form with the help of terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexer (TOAD) based tree-net architecture.     

Parallelizing Tabu Search on a Cluster of Heterogeneous Workstations

In this paper, we present the parallelization of tabu search on a network of workstations using PVM. Two parallelization strategies are integrated: functional decomposition strategy and multi-search threads strategy. In addition, domain decomposition strategy is implemented probabilistically. The performance of each strategy is observed and analyzed. The goal of parallelization is to speedup the search in finding better quality solutions. Observations support that both parallelization strategies are beneficial, with functional decomposition producing slightly better results. Experiments were conducted for the VLSI cell placement, an NP-hard problem, and the objective was to achieve the best possible solution in terms of interconnection length, timing performance (circuit speed), and area. The multiobjective nature of this problem is addressed using a fuzzy goal-based cost computation.

Solid-supported reagents and catalysts for the preparation of large ring compounds

Parallel combinatorial synthesis in solution using immobilized reagents, catalysts, and scavengers has emerged as a powerful technique for the preparation of diverse libraries of compounds. This technique has only recently been applied to the synthesis of large-ring compounds. In this comprehensive review several strategies are presented and discussed, including Pd-catalyzed allylic alkylation, Stille-coupling, macrolactonization and macrolactamization using solid supported reagents and catalysts. In several cases site isolation has allowed operation of these macrocyclization reactions in concentrated solution (pseudo-dilution effect).
