THE NECESSARY AND SUFFICIENT CONDITIONS FOR THE SOLVABILITY OF A CLASS OF THE MATRIX INVERSE PROBLEM

Censider the solutions of the matrix inverse problem, which are symmetric positive semide finite on a subspace. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability, as well as the general solution are obtained. The best approximate solution by the above solution set is given. Thus the open problem in [1] is solved.

Deconvolving compactly supported densities

This paper addresses the statistical problem of density deconvolution under the condition that the density to be estimated has compact support. We introduce a new estimation procedure, which establishes faster rates of convergence for smooth densities as compared to the optimal rates for smooth densities with unbounded support. This framework also allows us to relax the usual condition of known error density with non-vanishing Fourier transform, so that a nonparametric class of densities is valid; therefore, even the shape of the noise density need not be assumed. These results can also be generalized for fast decaying densities with unbounded support. We prove optimality of the rates in the underlying experiment and study the practical performance of our estimator by numerical simulations.

Reconstruction of an acoustically sound-soft obstacle from one incident field and the far-field pattern

The problem considered is that of determining the shape of aplane acoustically sound-soft obstacle from the knowledge ofthe far-field pattern for one time-harmonic incident field.An iterative procedure is proposed based on two boundary integralsrepresenting the incident field and the far-field pattern, respectively.Numerical examples are included which show that the proceduregives accurate numerical approximations in relatively few iterations.     

棒状钡铁氧体的反相微乳法制备

A rodlike barium ferrite precursor with an average size of 0.72～19.6 μm and aspect ratio of 2.6～8.3 has been successfully prepared in an inverse microemulsion consisting of isooctane, cetanyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), n-C₄H₉OH and water with ammonia and ammonium oxalate as precipitants. On sintering at 780(C, the rodlike precursor particles could be transformed into rodlike particles of barium ferrite(BaFe₁₂O₁₉) with the average size and aspect ratio of 0.69～18.2 μm and 2.3～5.8, respectively. The effect of volume ratio of aqueous phase to oleic phase, the starting concentrations of metal ions and the starting concentration ratios of metal ions to precipitants were investigated.     

Determination of thermodynamic properties of macroporous glycidyl methacrylate‐based copolymers by inverse gas chromatography

Macroporous crosslinked poly(glycidyl methacrylate‐co‐ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (PGME) was synthesized by suspension copolymerization and modified by ring‐opening reaction of the pendant epoxy groups with ethylene diamine (EDA). Inverse gas chromatography (IGC) at infinite dilution was applied to determine the thermodynamic interactions of PGME and modified copolymer, PGME‐en. The specific surface areas of the initial and modified copolymer samples were determined by the BET method, from low‐temperature nitrogen adsorption isotherms. The specific retention volumes, V, of 10 organic compounds of different chemical nature and polarity (nonpolar, donor, or acceptor) were determined in the temperature range 333–413 K. The weight fraction activity coefficients of test sorbates, , and Flory–Huggins interaction parameters, , were calculated and discussed in terms of interactions of sorbates with PGME and PGME‐en. Also, the partial molar free energy, , partial molar heat of mixing, , sorption molar free energy, ΔG, sorption enthalpy ΔH, and sorption entropy, ΔS, were calculated. Glass transitions in PGME and PGME‐en, determined from IGC data, were observed in the temperature range 373–393 K and 363–373 K, respectively. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
