Divisorial Linear Algebra of Normal Semigroup Rings

We investigate the minimal number of generators and the depth of divisorial ideals over normal semigroup rings. Such ideals are defined by the inhomogeneous systems of linear inequalities associated with the support hyperplanes of the semigroup. The main result is that for every bound C there exist, up to isomorphism, only finitely many divisorial ideals I such that (I)C. It follows that there exist only finitely many Cohen–Macaulay divisor classes. Moreover, we determine the minimal depth of all divisorial ideals and the behaviour of and depth in arithmetic progressions in the divisor class group.The results are generalized to more general systems of linear inequalities whose homogeneous versions define the semigroup in a not necessarily irredundant way. The ideals arising this way can also be considered as defined by the nonnegative solutions of an inhomogeneous system of linear diophantine equations.We also give a more ring-theoretic approach to the theorem on minimal number of generators of divisorial ideals: it turns out to be a special instance of a theorem on the growth of multigraded Hilbert functions.     

Asymptotic Expansions of the Heat Kernel of the Laplacian for General Annular Bounded Domains with Robin Boundary Conditions：Further Results

The asymptotic expansions of the trace of the heat kernel θ(t)=∑^∞v=1^exp(-tλv) for small positive t,where {λv} are the eigenvalues of the negative Laplacian -△n=-∑^ni=1(D/Dx^1)^2 in R^2(n=2 or 3),are studied for a general annular bounded domain Ω with a smooth inner boundary DΩ1 and a smooth outer boundary DΩ2,where a finite number of piecewise smooth Robin boundary conditions(D/Dnj γh)Ф=0 on the components Гj(j= 1,...,m) of (DΩ1 and on the components Гj (j=k 1,…,m) of of DΩ2 are considered such that DΩl=U^kj=lГj and DΩ2= U^m=k 1Гj and where the coefficients γj(j=1,...,m) are piecewise smooth positive functions. Some applications of θ(t) for an ideal gas enclosed in the general annular bounded domain Ω are given. Further results are also obtained.     

The Coloring Ideal and Coloring Complex of a Graph

Let G be a simple graph on d vertices. We define a monomial ideal K in the Stanley-Reisner ring A of the order complex of the Boolean algebra on d atoms. The monomials in K are in one-to-one correspondence with the proper colorings of G. In particular, the Hilbert polynomial of K equals the chromatic polynomial of G.The ideal K is generated by square-free monomials, so A/K is the Stanley-Reisner ring of a simplicial complex C. The h-vector of C is a certain transformation of the tail T(n) = n ^d – (n) of the chromatic polynomial of G. The combinatorial structure of the complex C is described explicitly and it is shown that the Euler characteristic of C equals the number of acyclic orientations of G.     

Linear maps preserving ideals of -algebras

We show that unital self-adjoint linear bijections of matrix algebras, type factors and abelian -algebras preserving maximal left ideals are isomorphisms and we show that a unital continuous linear map of a -algebra that maps the minimal left ideal into itself is the identity map.     

Factorization in finite-codimensional ideals of group algebras

Let G be a -compact, locally compact group and I be a closed2-sided ideal with finite codimension in L¹(G). It is shownthat there are a closed left ideal L having a right boundedapproximate identity and a closed right ideal R having a leftbounded approximate identity such that I = L + R. Forcing Linearity Numbers for Modules over PID's

Let V be a module over a principal ideal domain. Then V = M N where M is divisible and N has no nonzero divisible submodules. In this paper we determine the forcing linearity number for V when N is a direct sum of cyclic modules. As a consequence, the forcing linearity numbers of several classes of Abelian groups are obtained.     

A bracket power characterization of analytic spread one ideals

The main theorem characterizes, in terms of bracket powers, analytic spread one ideals in local rings. Specifically, let be regular nonunits in a local (Noetherian) ring and assume that , the integral closure of , where . Then the main result shows that for all but finitely many units in that are non-congruent modulo and for all large integers and it holds that for and not divisible by , where is the -th bracket power of . And, conversely, if there exist positive integers , , and such that has a basis such that , then has analytic spread one.

     

Operator ideal norms on

Let be a real number such that and its conjugate exponent . We prove that for an operator defined on with values in a Banach space, the image of the unit ball determines whether belongs to any operator ideal and its operator ideal norm. We also show that this result fails to be true in the remaining cases of . Finally we prove that when the result holds in finite dimension, the map which associates to the image of the unit ball the operator ideal norm is continuous with respect to the Hausdorff metric.
