研究了在均匀分层介质中构成标准矢量波函数的必要条件。研究结果表明在均匀分层介质中构成标准矢量波函数一般需遵循Morse-Feshbach判据外，领示矢量只能选取与折射率变化方向一致的那根坐标轴单位矢量。但在某些特定的条件下，对领示矢量的选取条件可以放宽为只需遵循Morse-Feshbach判据即可。     

On the free boundary of surfaces with bounded mean curvature: the non-perpendicular case

H?lder continuity up to the free boundary is proved for minimizing solutions if they meet the supporting surface in an angle which is bounded away from zero. The problem is localized by proving the continuity of the distance function, a result which is also true for stationary points. Received: 14 April 1998     

Sur les automorphismes analytiques des variétés hyperboliques

Results of H. Cartan about holomorphic automorphisms on bounded domains are generalized to the case of hyperbolic manifolds in the sense of Kobayashi. In this setting, we give an identity theorem together with its topological version. We show also that a sequence of automorphisms which converges uniformly on some nonempty open set, has a limit on the whole space which is an automorphism. At the end of the paper, conditions are given for the sequence of iterates of a self holomorphic map in order to be an automorphism.     

Pullback attractors for a non-autonomous incompressible non-Newtonian fluid

This paper studies the pullback asymptotic behavior of solutions for a non-autonomous incompressible non-Newtonian fluid in two-dimensional (2D) bounded domains. We first prove the existence of pullback attractors AV in space V (has H²-regularity, see notation in Section 2) and AH in space H (has L²-regularity) for the cocycle corresponding to the solutions of the fluid. Then we verify the regularity of the pullback attractors by showing AV=AH, which implies the pullback asymptotic smoothing effect of the fluid in the sense that the solutions become eventually more regular than the initial data.     

Lieb–Thirring Inequalities for Schrödinger Operators with Complex-valued Potentials

Inequalities are derived for power sums of the real part and the modulus of the eigenvalues of a Schrödinger operator with a complex-valued potential.     

Internal audits in private medical laboratory practice – a Finnish experience in 1996–2000

Internal audits inherently effect quality improvement, and concrete results can be expected by careful planning. As audits should improve the quality system in situ, the development of audits should not be neglected. ISO/IEC 17025 describes the objectives of internal audits and management reviews in more detail compared to the former standards EN 45001 and ISO/IEC Guide 25, although the main features are unchanged. This addresses continuous surveillance of the current practice. A brief questionnaire on vertical audits was distributed to 74 of 120 employees at a Finnish private medical laboratory, Medix Laboratories Ltd. A positive feed-back was received from the current management of audits. However, the study revealed that continuous supervision of audits is needed. Many employees were not willing to perform audits if they had no previous experience. Additionally, audits performed at the workbench were not considered as the best possible for fruitful discussions. Received: 20 February 2001 Accepted: 30 November 2001     

THE GENERALIZED MAXIMUM ANGLE CONDITION FOR THE Q1 ISOPARAMETRIC ELEMENT

We consider the quadrilateral Q1 isoparametric element and establish an optimal error estimate in H^1 norm for the interpolation operator under a weaker mesh condition which admits anisotropic quadrilaterals and allows the quadrilateral to become a regular triangle in the sense of maximum angle condition [5, 11].     

A goal programming approach to strategic resource allocation in acute care hospitals

This paper describes a methodology for allocating resources in hospitals. The methodology uses two linear goal-programming models. One model sets case mix and volume for physicians, while holding service costs fixed; the other translates case mix decisions into a commensurate set of practice changes for physicians. The models allow decision makers to set case mix and case costs in such a way that the institution is able to break even, while preserving physician income and minimizing disturbance to practice. The models also permit investigation of trade-offs between case mix and physician practice parameters. Results are presented from a decision-making scenario facing the surgical division of Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital after the announcement of a 3-year, 18% reduction in funding.

Evolution equations for shapes and geometries

The first object of this paper is to introduce a new evolution equation for the characteristic function of the boundary Γ of a Lipschitzian domain Ω in the N-dimensional Euclidean space under the influence of a smooth time-dependent velocity field. The originality of this equation is that the evolution takes place in an L^p-space with respect to the (N − 1)-Hausdorff measure. A second more speculative objective is to discuss how that equation can be relaxed to rougher velocity fields via some weak formulation. A candidate is presented and some of the technical difficulties and open issues are discussed. Continuity results in several metric topologies are also presented. The paper also specializes the results on the evolution of the oriented distance function to initial sets with zero N-dimensional Lebesgue measure.
