Nonlinear boundary value problem of first order impulsive functional differential equations

This paper discusses nonlinear boundary value problem for first order impulsive functional differential equations. We establish several existence results by using the lower and upper solutions and monotone iterative techniques. Two examples are discussed to illustrate the efficiency of the obtained results.     

Business–Cycle Models and the Dangers of Linearizing

This paper studies the consequences of linearizing nonlinear business–cycle models near their interior steady state. It is shown that dynamic objects, created for example in a Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation, may be lost in the linearization procedure. Sufficient conditions are provided ensuring the absence of various dynamic features in the nonlinear version of the model. Third-order nonlinear optical studies of newly synthesized polyoxadiazoles containing 3,4-dialkoxythiophenes

The third-order nonlinear optical properties of newly synthesized soluble polyoxadiazoles containing 3,4-dialkoxythiophenes were investigated by using Z-scan and degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) techniques. The measurements were performed at 532 nm with 7 ns pulses from a Nd:YAG laser. We found a good agreement between the values of χ⁽³⁾ determined from both the experiments. Z-scan results indicate a negative nonlinear refractive index, n₂, whose magnitude is of the order of 10⁻¹⁰ esu for all the copolymers. The variation of nonlinear response among the copolymers clearly indicates the dependence of χ⁽³⁾ on donor and acceptor type of units present in these copolymers. The copolymers exhibit strong reverse saturable absorption and good optical limiting properties at 532 nm.

Nonlinear travelling waves in φ6 polarizable model

We present a complete theoretical analysis of the periodic and non-periodic travelling waves in a diatomic chain model, in the continuum limit by incorporating nonlinear sixth order polarization potential (φ⁶) at the anion site. We have formulated a nonlinear lattice dynamical theory in which various energy curves are obtained for different types and magnitudes of the core-shell force constants. For periodic solutions, we have obtained two types of commensurate wave amplitudes which propagate in the opposite direction with respect to each other. For nonperiodic solutions, we have obtained various travelling excitations such as kink, antikink, excitons etc. for different values of the mass ratio and velocity parameter. The dipole moment per unit charge for SrTiO₃ has been calculated and it is found that the nonlinear excitations in this model carry large amount of energy as compared to those obtained from harmonic and anharmonic optical phonons in the φ⁴-polarizable model.

Globally convergent algorithm for solving nonlinear equations

A general iterative method is proposed for finding the maximal rootx _max of a one-variable equation in a given interval. The method generates a monotone-decreasing sequence of points converging tox _max or demonstrates the nonexistence of a real root. It is globally convergent. A concrete realization of the general algorithm is also given and is shown to be locally quadratically convergent. Computational experience obtained for eight test problems indicates that the new method is comparable to known methods claiming global convergence.     

The effects of different dispersion compensation ratios on nonlinear single channel and WDM systems

The effects of the compensation ratio with dispersion post-compensation on nonlinear single channel and WDM systems with 10 Gb/s per channel are numerically investigated. When the transmission signal per channel is 10 Gb/s RZ pulse and the amplifier span is 50 km, proper undercompensation can enhance the performance of the nonlinear single channel system and the nonlinear WDM system. But the enhanced distance of the nonlinear WDM system is not as obvious as that of the single channel system, because the cross-phase-modulation effect plays an important role in the nonlinear WDM system.     

四阶非线性常微分方程非线性两点边值问题解的存在唯一性

本文利用Ｂｏｌｚａｎｏ定理，给出了四阶非线性常微微分方程具有非线性边界条件的两点边值问题（１）（２）２，（１）（２）３存在解与存在唯一解的一般性结果，并将所得结果应用于Ｌｉｐｓｃｈｉｚ方程，对Ｌｉｐｓｃｈｉｔｚ方程满足边界条件（２）２，（２）３的边值问题给出了存在解与存在唯一解的具体的充分条件。
