Computing strategies for achieving acceptability: A Monte Carlo approach

We consider a trader who wants to direct his or her portfolio towards a set of acceptable wealths given by a convex risk measure. We propose a Monte Carlo algorithm, whose inputs are the joint law of stock prices and the convex risk measure, and whose outputs are the numerical values of initial capital requirement and the functional form of a trading strategy for achieving acceptability. We also prove optimality of the capital obtained. Explicit theoretical evaluations of hedging strategies are extremely difficult, and we avoid the problem by resorting to such computational methods. The main idea is to utilize the finite Vapnik–C?ervonenkis dimension of a class of possible strategies.     

THE DIMENSION FOR RANDOM SUB-SELF-SIMILAR SET

In this article,the Hausdorff dimension and exact Hausdorff measure function of any random sub-self-similar set are obtained under some reasonable conditions.Several examples are given at the end.     

Generalized Physical and SRB Measures for Hyperbolic Diffeomorphisms

In this paper we introduce the notion of generalized physical and SRB measures. These measures naturally generalize classical physical and SRB measures to measures which are supported on invariant sets that are not necessarily attractors. We then perform a detailed case study of these measures for hyperbolic Hènon maps. For this class of systems we are able to develop a complete theory about the existence, uniqueness, finiteness, and properties of these natural measures. Moreover, we derive a classification for the existence of a measure of full dimension. We also consider general hyperbolic surface diffeomorphisms and discuss possible extensions of, as well as the differences to, the results for Hènon maps. Finally, we study the regular dependence of the dimension of the generalized physical/SRB measure on the diffeomorphism. For the proofs we apply various techniques from smooth ergodic theory including the thermodynamic formalism. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. Effect of the subdivision strategy on convergence and efficiency of some global optimization algorithms

We investigate subdivision strategies that can improve the convergence and efficiency of some branch and bound algorithms of global optimization. In particular, a general class of so called weakly exhaustive simplicial subdivision processes is introduced that subsumes all previously known radial exhaustive processes. This result provides the basis for constructing flexible subdivision strategies that can be adapted to take advantage of various problem conditions.

These areas include the interface between nonlinear time series analysis and chaos,thenonparametric/semiparametric approach,nonlinear state space modelling,financial time series and nonlinearmodelling of panels of time series.

Special simplices and Gorenstein toric rings

Athanasiadis [Ehrhart polynomials, simplicial polytopes, magic squares and a conjecture of Stanley, J. Reine Angew. Math., to appear.] studies an effective technique to show that Gorenstein sequences coming from compressed polytopes are unimodal. In the present paper we will use such the technique to find a rich class of Gorenstein toric rings with unimodal h-vectors arising from finite graphs.
