FS-property for -algebras

A -algebra is said to have the FS-property if the set of all self-adjoint elements in has a dense subset of elements with finite spectrum. We shall show that this property is not stable under taking the minimal -tensor products even in case of separable nuclear -algebras.

     

Linear maps preserving ideals of -algebras

We show that unital self-adjoint linear bijections of matrix algebras, type factors and abelian -algebras preserving maximal left ideals are isomorphisms and we show that a unital continuous linear map of a -algebra that maps the minimal left ideal into itself is the identity map.     

The Tracial Topological Rank of C*-Algebras

We introduce the notion of tracial topological rank for C*-algebras.In the commutative case, this notion coincides with the coveringdimension. Inductive limits of C*-algebrasof the form PM_n(C(X))P,where X is a compact metric space with dim X k, and P is aprojection in M_n(C(X)), have tracial topological rank no morethan k. Non-nuclear C*-algebras can have small tracial topologicalrank. It is shown that if A is a simple unital C*-algebra withtracial topological rank k (< ), then

(i) A is quasidiagonal,

(ii) A has stable rank 1,

(iii) A has weakly unperforatedK₀(A),

(iv) A has the following Fundamental Comparabilityof Blackadar:if p, q A are two projections with (p) < (q)for all tracialstates on A, then p q

Pulsed Nd:YAG laser depositions of ITO and DLC films for OLED applications

Indium-tin oxide (ITO) films deposited on heated and non-heated glass substrates by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser at 355 nm and ∼2.5 J/cm² were used in the fabrication of simple organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), ITO/(PVK + Alq₃ + TPD)/Al. The ITO was deposited on heated glass substrates which possessed resistivity as low as ∼3 × 10⁻⁴ Ω cm, optical transmission as high as ∼92% and carrier concentration of about ∼5 × 10²⁰ cm⁻³, were comparable to the commercial ITO. Substrate heating transformed the ITO microstructure from amorphous to polycrystalline, as revealed by the XRD spectrum. While the polycrystalline ITO produced higher OLED brightness, it was still lower than that on the commercial ITO due to surface roughness. A DLC layer of ∼1.5 nm deposited on this ITO at laser fluence of >12.5 J/cm² improved its device brightness by suppressing the surface roughness effect.

The alternative Daugavet property of C *‐algebras and JB *‐triples

A Banach space X is said to have the alternative Daugavet property if for every (bounded and linear) rank‐one operator T: X → X there exists a modulus one scalar ω such that ∥Id+ωT ∥ = 1 + ∥T ∥.
