Optimal control of coupled spin dynamics: design of NMR pulse sequences by gradient ascent algorithms

In this paper, we introduce optimal control algorithm for the design of pulse sequences in NMR spectroscopy. This methodology is used for designing pulse sequences that maximize the coherence transfer between coupled spins in a given specified time, minimize the relaxation effects in a given coherence transfer step or minimize the time required to produce a given unitary propagator, as desired. The application of these pulse engineering methods to design pulse sequences that are robust to experimentally important parameter variations, such as chemical shift dispersion or radiofrequency (rf) variations due to imperfections such as rf inhomogeneity is also explained.     

Locally homogeneous affine connections on compact surfaces

Global properties of locally homogeneous and curvature homogeneous affine connections are studied. It is proved that the only locally homogeneous connections on surfaces of genus different from 1 are metric connections of constant curvature. There exist nonmetrizable nonlocally symmetric locally homogeneous affine connections on the torus of genus 1. It is proved that there is no global affine immersion of the torus endowed with a nonflat locally homogeneous connection into .

     

Coding the principal character formula for affine Kac-Moody lie algebras

In this paper, an algorithm for computing the principal character for affine Lie algebras is discussed and presented. The principal characters discovered using this program are given and/or proven. Results include level 2 and 3 character formulas in and the sole existence of the Rogers-Ramanujan products in , , , , , , .     

(2 + 1)D exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry, duality and projective phase

A particle system with a (2 + 1)D exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry is constructed by the method of nonlinear realization. It has three essentially different phases depending on the values of the two central charges. The subcritical and supercritical phases (describing 2D isotropic ordinary and exotic oscillators) are separated by the critical phase (one-mode oscillator), and are related by a duality transformation. In the flat limit, the system transforms into a free Galilean exotic particle on the noncommutative plane. The wave equations carrying projective representations of the exotic Newton-Hooke symmetry are constructed.     

Affine Near-Semirings Over Brandt Semigroups

In order to study the structure of A ⁺(B _n )—the affine near-semiring over a Brandt semigroup—this work completely characterizes the Green's classes of its semigroup reducts. In this connection, this work classifies the elements of A ⁺(B _n ) and reports the size of A ⁺(B _n ). Further, idempotents and regular elements of the semigroup reducts of A ⁺(B _n ) have also been characterized and studied some relevant semigroups in A ⁺(B _n ).     

An Affine Scaling Interior Trust Region Method via Optimal Path for Solving Monotone Variational Inequality Problem with Linear Constraints

Based on a differentiable merit function proposed by Taji et al. in ＂Math. Prog. Stud., 58, 1993, 369-383＂, the authors propose an affine scaling interior trust region strategy via optimal path to modify Newton method for the strictly monotone variational inequality problem subject to linear equality and inequality constraints. By using the eigensystem decomposition and affine scaling mapping, the authors form an affine scaling optimal curvilinear path very easily in order to approximately solve the trust region subproblem. Theoretical analysis is given which shows that the proposed algorithm is globally convergent and has a local quadratic convergence rate under some reasonable conditions.     

Ramanujan-Slater type identities related to the moduli 18 and 24

We present several new families of Rogers-Ramanujan type identities related to the moduli 18 and 24. A few of the identities were found by either Ramanujan, Slater, or Dyson, but most are believed to be new. For one of these families, we discuss possible connections with Lie algebras. We also present two families of related false theta function identities.     

Symmetry reductions and exact solutions of the affine heat equation

Lie symmetry group method is applied to study the affine heat equation for surface. Its symmetry groups and corresponding optimal systems are determined, and group-invariant solutions associated to the symmetries are obtained and classified.     

The affine Plateau problem

In this paper, we study a second order variational problem for locally convex hypersurfaces, which is the affine invariant analogue of the classical Plateau problem for minimal surfaces. We prove existence, regularity and uniqueness results for hypersurfaces maximizing affine area under appropriate boundary conditions.

     

A Supercoherent State and a New Inhomogeneous Differential Realization of the SPL(2,1) Superalgebra

The supercoherent state of the SPL(2,1) superalgebra is constructed and its properties are discussed in detail. The new inhomogeneous differential realizations of the SPL(2,1) superalgebra are obtained.
