Stable Ergodicity and Frame Flows

In this note we show that all diffeomorphisms close enough to the time-one map of the frame flow on certain negatively curved manifolds are ergodic. As a simple corollary we deduce that the frame flows are ergodic for all compact manifolds with curvature pinched sufficiently close to –1, thus providing results in the case of manifolds of dimension 7 or 8 which were missing from the results of Brin and Karcher.     

Excess molar enthalpies of binary mixtures of 1-hexene with some cyclic and aromatic hydrocarbons at 298.15 K

Microcalorimetric measurements of excess molar enthalpies, at 298.15 K, are reported for the four binary systems formed by mixing 1-hexene with the cycloalkanes: cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane, and with the aromatic hydrocarcons: benzene and toluene. Smooth Redlich-Kister representations of the results are presented. It was found that the Liebermann-Fried model also provided good representations of the results.

 摘要：在同时考虑非线性折射和非线性吸收的情况下，借助光的衍射理论，研究了Z-扫描技术的衍射理论模型，分析了非线性折射和非线性吸收同时存在时Z-扫描曲线的形状特征和变化规律。数值计算表明，非线性吸收相移和非线性折射相移的比值是影响接收小孔输出光功率的重要因素。要想得到好的光限幅效果，应选取非线性相移比值远小于1或远大于2的非线性材料。     

The canonical solution operator of $ {\bar \partial } $ on weighted spaces with holomorphic coefficients

On weighted spaces with strictly plurisubharmonic weightfunctions the canonical solution operator of and the ‐Neumann operator are bounded. In this paper we find a class of strictly plurisubharmonic weightfunctions with certain growth conditions, so that they are Hilbert‐Schmidt operators between weighted spaces with different weightfunctions, if they are restricted to forms with holomorphic coefficients. The long‐time behaviour of the thermoconvective flow in a porous medium

For the Boussinesq approximation of the equations of coupled heat and fluid flow in a porous medium we show that the corresponding system of partial differential equations possesses a global attractor. We give lower and upper bounds of the Hausdorff dimension of the attractor depending on a physical parameter of the system, namely the Rayleigh number of the flow. Numerical experiments confirm the theoretical findings and raise new questions on the structure of the solutions of the system. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Hausdorff dimension of a random invariant set

The notion of random attractor for a dissipative stochastic dynamical system has recently been introduced. It generalizes the concept of global attractor in the deterministic theory. It has been shown that many stochastic dynamical systems associated to a dissipative partial differential equation perturbed by noise do possess a random attractor. In this paper, we prove that, as in the case of the deterministic attractor, the Hausdorff dimension of the random attractor can be estimated by using global Lyapunov exponents. The result is obtained under very natural assumptions. As an application, we consider a stochastic reaction-diffusion equation and show that its random attractor has finite Hausdorff dimension.     

Impact of Partial Separability on Large-Scale Optimization

ELSO is an environment for the solution oflarge-scale optimization problems. With ELSO the user is required to provide only code for the evaluation of a partially separable function. ELSO exploits the partialseparability structure of the function to computethe gradient efficiently using automatic differentiation.We demonstrate ELSO's efficiency by comparing thevarious options available in ELSO.Our conclusion is that the hybrid option in ELSOprovides performance comparable to the hand-coded option, while having the significantadvantage of not requiring a hand-coded gradient orthe sparsity pattern of the partially separable function.In our test problems, which have carefully coded gradients,the computing time for the hybrid AD option is within a factor of two of thehand-coded option.     

Concerning the multiplicators of Fourier series in the trigonometric system

A Survey on Explicit Representation Formulae for Fundamental Solutions of Linear Partial Differential Operators

In the present article, we aim at treating the existence of fundamental solutions of linear partial differential operators with constant coefficients from the viewpoint of setting up explicit formulae yielding fundamental solutions.
