Exhaled breath condensate is a promising, non-invasive, diagnostic sample obtained by condensation of exhaled breath. Starting from a historical perspective of early attempts of breath testing towards the contemporary state-of-the-art breath analysis, this review article focuses mainly on the progress in determination of non-volatile compounds in exhaled breath condensate. The mechanisms by which the aerosols/droplets of non-volatile compounds are formed in the airways are discussed with methodological consequences for sampling. Dilution of respiratory droplets is a major problem for correct clinical interpretation of the measured data and there is an urgent need for standardization of EBC. This applies also for collection instrumentation and therefore various commercial and in-house built devices are described and compared with regard to their design, function and collection parameters. The analytical techniques and methods for determination of non-volatile compounds as potential markers of oxidative stress and lung inflammation are scrutinized with an emphasis on method suitability, sensitivity and appropriateness. The relevance of clinical findings for each group of possible non-volatile markers of selected pulmonary diseases and methodological recommendations with emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration that is essential for future development into a fully validated clinical diagnostic tool are given. 相似文献

Simple matching vs linear assignment in scheduling models with positional effects: A critical review
This paper addresses scheduling models in which a contribution of an individual job to the objective function is represented by the product of its processing time and a certain positional weight. We review most of the known results in the area and demonstrate that a linear assignment algorithm as part of previously known solution procedures can be replaced by a faster matching algorithm that minimizes a linear form over permutations. Our approach reduces the running time of the resulting algorithms by up to two orders, and carries over to a wider range of models, with more general positional effects. Besides, the same approach works for the models with no prior history of study, e.g., parallel machine scheduling with deterioration and maintenance to minimize total flow time. 相似文献

The β‐diketonate‐based achiral polymer P‐1 could be synthesized by the polymerization of 3,7‐dibromo‐2,8‐dimethoxy‐5,5‐dioctyl‐5H‐dibenzo[b,d]silole ( M1 ) with (Z)?1,3‐bis(4‐ethynylphenyl)?3‐hydroxyprop‐en‐1‐one ( M2 ) via typical Sonogashira coupling reaction. The β‐diketonate unit in the main chain backbone of P‐1 can further coordinate with Eu(TTA)x [TTA? = 4,4,4‐trifluoro‐1‐(thiophen‐2‐yl)butane‐1,3‐dionate anion, X = 1, 2, 3] to afford corresponding Eu(III)‐containing polymer complexes. The resulting achiral polymer complex P‐2 (X = 2) can exhibit strong circular dichroism (CD) response toward both N‐Boc‐l and d‐ proline enantiomers. The CD signal was preliminarily attributed to coordination induction between chiral N‐Boc‐proline and the Eu(III) complex moiety. The linear regression analysis of CD sensing shows a good agreement between the magnitude of molar ellipticity and concentration of chiral N‐Boc‐l or d‐ proline, which indicates this kind Eu(III)‐containing achiral polymer complex can be used as a chiral probe for enantioselective recognition of N‐Boc‐l or d‐ proline enantiomers based on Cotton effect of CD spectra. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We investigate the success of the quantum chemical electron impact mass spectrum (QCEIMS) method in predicting the electron impact mass spectra of a diverse test set of 61 small molecules selected to be representative of common fragmentations and reactions in electron impact mass spectra. Comparison with experimental spectra is performed using the standard matching algorithms, and the relative ranking position of the actual molecule matching the spectra within the NIST‐11 library is examined. We find that the correct spectrum is ranked in the top two matches from structural isomers in more than 50% of the cases. QCEIMS, thus, reproduces the distribution of peaks sufficiently well to identify the compounds, with the RMSD and mean absolute difference between appropriately normalized predicted and experimental spectra being at most 9% and 3% respectively, even though the most intense peaks are often qualitatively poorly reproduced. We also compare the QCEIMS method to competitive fragmentation modeling for electron ionization, a training‐based mass spectrum prediction method, and remarkably we find the QCEIMS performs equivalently or better. We conclude that QCEIMS will be very useful for those who wish to identify new compounds which are not well represented in the mass spectral databases. 相似文献

In recent years, there has been high interest in paper-based microfluidic sensors or microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) towards low-cost, portable, and easy-to-use sensing for chemical and biological targets. μPAD allows spontaneous liquid flow without any external or internal pumping, as well as an innate filtration capability. Although both optical (colorimetric and fluorescent) and electrochemical detection have been demonstrated on μPADs, several limitations still remain, such as the need for additional equipment, vulnerability to ambient lighting perturbation, and inferior sensitivity. Herein, alternative detection methods on μPADs are reviewed to resolve these issues, including relatively well studied distance-based measurements and the newer capillary flow dynamics-based method. Detection principles, assay performance, strengths, and weaknesses are explained for these methods, along with their potential future applications towards point-of-care medical diagnostics and other field-based applications. 相似文献

The fully polarizable, multipolar, and atomistic force field protein FFLUX is being built from machine learning (i.e., kriging) models, each of which predicts an atomic property. Each atom of a given protein geometry needs to be assigned such a kriging model. Such a knowledgeable atom needs to be informed about a sufficiently large environment around it. The resulting complexity can be tackled by collecting the 20 natural amino acids into a few groups. Abstract A new flow‐injection online reduction electrochemical hydride generation system for the determination of Se(IV) and Se(VI) by atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS) was developed. In the system, an electromagnetic induction oven was used as heating resource to reduce Se(VI) to Se(IV) and a homemade tubular electrolytic cell as hydride generator. All analytical procedures were automatically controlled by a computer. The conditions of online reduction, including temperature, HCl concentration, and reduction time, have been studied in detail. The detection limits (3σ) of Se(IV) and Se(VI) in aqueous solution were 0.26 µg L?1 and 0.23 µg L?1, respectively. The precision for 11 replicate measurements of 50 µg L?1 Se(IV) and Se(VI) was 2.2% and 2.5%. This proposed method has been applied to the determination of Se(IV) and Se(VI) in springwater samples. 相似文献
