The interactions between octyl--D-glucoside and glycine in water have been investigated by surface tension, viscosity, and density measurements. The results show that the -amino acid causes an unexpected lowering of the critical micellar concentration of octyl--D-glucoside. Such a finding has been interpreted in temss of dipole-dipole interactions between the hydrophilic site of the surfactant and the peptidic cosluttes. From three to seven amino acid molecules have been estimated to be coordinated with each glucoside unity in the micellar state. The research has been extended to glycine oligopeptides and L-lysine. The latter compound has effects similar to those observed with glycine whereas diglycine and triglycine show weaker effects on the micellization process.  相似文献

We consider an Ising spin system with Kac potentials in a torus of d,d>-2, and fix the temperature below its Lebowitz-Penrose critical value. We prove that when the Kac scaling parameter vanishes, the log of the probability of an interface becomes proportional to its area and the surface tension, related to the proportionality constant, converges to the van der Waals surface tension. The results are based on the analysis of the rate functionals for Gibbsian large deviations and on the proof that they -converge to the perimeter functional of geometric measure theory (which extends the notion of area). Our considerations include nonsmooth interfaces, proving that the Gibbsian probability of an interface depends only on its area and not on its regularity.  相似文献

We consider the two-dimensional stochastic Ising model in finite square with free boundary conditions, at inverse temperature >0 and zero external field. Using duality and recent results of Ioffe on the Wulff construction close to the critical temperature, we extend some of the results obtained by Martinelli in the low-temperature regime to any temperature below the critical one. In particular we show that the gap in the spectrum of the generator of the dynamics goes to zero in the thermodynamic limit as an exponential of the side length of , with a rate constant determined by the surface tension along one of the coordinate axes. We also extend to the same range of temperatures the result due to Shlosman on the equilibrium large deviations of the magnetization with free boundary conditions.  相似文献

 Some comb-like polythiiranes with PEO side chains were prepared from the corresponding macromonomers. These new materials are amphiphiles and act as surfactants. Their surface tension and interfacial tension are measured and studied in this paper on account of their structures. The lowering of surface tension measured in polymers bearing methyl terminal group in PEO side chains, are in the same range as these observed with polymers of identical structures but different main chains. An increase of the hydrophobic units in the main chain, obtained in copolymers with methylthiirane does not significantly modified the surface tensions. Better lowering is afforded with structures bearing large alkyl groups as terminal group of PEO side chains. On the contrary, some of these macro-molecules with an optimized EO content largely lower the water/xylene surface tension. The effect of the micelles on the dynamic surface tension of micellar surfactant solutions is studied experimentally by means of the maximum bubble pressure method. Different frequencies of bubbling ranging approximately between 1 and 30 s–1 are applied. The time dependence of the surface tension is calculated using a dead time correction. Water solutions of two types of surfactants with different concentrations are investigated: sodium dodecyl sulfate and nonylphenol polyglycol ether. The surface tension relaxes more quickly in the presence of micelles. The characteristic times of relaxation of the surface tension seem to be in the millisecond range. The time constants observed experimentally are explained in terms of the theory of surfactant diffusion affected by micellization kinetics.  相似文献

 The surface tensions of aqueous poly(N-vinylformamide) (PNVF), polyvinylamine (PVAM), and PNVF–PVAM copolymers were measured as functions of pH. The nonionic PNVF gave a pH-independent surface tension of 68 mN/m. The surface tension of PVAM was pH dependent; at pH 10 it was 56 mN/m, whereas it was 71.5 mN/m at pH 3.5. The transition from higher to lower surface tension values occurred most dramatically between pH 8 and 9, reflecting the dissociation behavior of the amine groups. Much research has been done on line tension measurement and interpretation, and attempts have also been made to measure line tension with simple, cheap and reliable methods that do not require excessive sophistication. Of particular interest is the method of determining line tensions of solid–liquid–vapor systems from the capillary rise in a conical tube. This simple and relatively inexpensive method gives line tension values comparable to those reported in the literature obtained via highly sophisticated instruments or techniques such as the well known axisymmetric drop shape analysis technique. The absolute value of line tension obtained using the conical tube method and assuming a spherical liquid–vapor interface is larger but of the same order of magnitude (1 μJ m−1) as that reported in the literature. A theoretical analysis presented herein shows that by including the deformation of the liquid–vapor interface due to gravity in the conical capillary analysis, the line tension value inferred from the experimental data is reduced by approximately 50% and compares better with values in the literature obtained using other sophisticated methods. Thus a relatively simple, cheap, accurate and reliable method of line tension measurement has been advanced.  相似文献

The amplitude 0 of the interfacial free energy per unit area (or surface tension) of the body-centered-cubic Ising model is found using a direct monte carlo simulation technique. The combination 2/kBTc, where is the correlation length, is shown to agree within the precision of the simulations with a previously reported estimate for the simple cubic lattice. Evidence is also presented for the universality of the finite-size scaling amplitude for the surface tension.  相似文献
