ASYMPTOTIC BEHAVIOR OF SOLUTIONS OF NONLINEAR DELAY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

Sufficient conditions are established for the asymptotic behavior of solutionsof nonlinear delay differential equations x′(t)+sum from i=1 to m(pi(t)x(t-т_i))=F(t,x_t),t≥0where 0<т_1<т_2<…<т_m≤r,pi∈C([0,∞)),i=1,2,…,m,F∈C([0,∞)×C_0,R).C_0=C([-r,0],R)equipped with the sup norm ||·|| forsome r>0. A new result is established, some known results are improved.     

A note on the necessary conditions for the algebraic Riccati equation

We derive some useful and easily computable necessary conditionsfor the existence of a positive semi-definite solution to thealgebraic Ricatti equation (ARE). A motivating example is givento highlight the usefulness of the conditions for controllerand observer designs for nonlinear systems. Further, an upperbound on the trace of the solution to the ARE is also derived.     

The Convergence and Stability of Splitting Finite-Difference Schemes for Nonlinear Evolutionary Equations

We consider a splitting finite-difference scheme for an initial-boundary value problem for a two-dimensional nonlinear evolutionary equation. The problem is split into nonlinear and linear parts. The linear part is also split into locally one-dimensional equations. We prove the convergence and stability of the scheme in L ₂ and C norms. Optical bistability in an all-optical fiber nonlinear fabry-perot resonator with linear absorption

An all-optical fiber nonlinear Fabry-Perot resonator is proposed. The steady-state model for describing this resonator is developed. The transmission and refection bistabilities are shown numerically. Our results show that the bistability in this system is similar to that in a normal nonlinear Fabry-Perot etalon, except that the characteristics of the bistability can be changed not only by the cavity length but also by the phase shifts of the fiber loop mirrors.     

KDP晶体三倍频实验和分析

报道了ＫＤＰ晶体中的三倍频产生的实验研究，计算了比较了直接三倍频过程和级联过程对ＫＤＰ晶体三阶有效非线性系数的贡献，并探讨了ＫＤＰ作为非线性晶体材料三阶非线性系数测量基准的可行性。     

广义集值强非线性拟变分不等式

本文引入并研究一类新的广义集值强非线性拟变分不等式,讨论这类广义集值强非线性拟变分不等式解的存在性以及由算法所构造的迭代序列的收敛性.我们的结果改进和发展了Noor,Siddiqi和Ansari等人近期的一些主要结果.     

THERMAL AND THERMO-ELASTIC-PLASTIC RESPONSE OF CERAMIC-METAL FUNCTIONALLY GRADED MATERIALS—THERMAL SHOCK PROBLEM

The thermal and thermo-elastic-plastic response of newly developed ceramic-metalfunctionally graded materials under a thermal shock load is studied.The materials are heated at the ce-ramic surface with a sudden high-intensity heat flux input,and cooled at the metal surface with aflowing liquid nitrogen.Emphasis is placed on two aspects:(1)the influence of the graded composi-tion of the materials on the temperature and stress response;and(2)the optimum design of the gradedcomposition from a unified viewpoint of the heat insulation property and stress relaxation property.Moreover,a comparison between the thermoelastic stress and the thermo-elastic-plastic stress is alsomade to indicate the plasticity effect.

MO analysis of macroscopic supercurrent flow in MgB 2

We present results from an extended magneto-optical (MO) analysis of two samples cut from high-density pellets of MgB₂. The first sample was studied in order to show that no matter how large the sample is and despite the bulk granularity, the material enters into a critical state in a crystal-like fashion. The second sample was chosen for the quantitative analysis. A numerical approach based on an inverted 2D Biot-Savart model was used to calculate the current paths across the homogeneous polycrystalline bulk, as well as in the vicinity and across some morphological defects. Local current densities in the homogeneous part were estimated as a function of the applied magnetic field at different temperatures, in three regimes: below full penetration, at full penetration and above full penetration, respectively. A hypothesis of interpretation of the apparent absence of magnetic granularity inside the polycrystalline microstructure is presented. It is related to a critical state likely reached by a network of strongly coupled Josephson junctions. Received 31 May 2001 and Received in final form 5 December 2001     

Crystal structure and magnetic ordering of RNi Si compounds

The element distributions and the magnetic ordering behaviour of compounds RNi₁₀Si₂ (R = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm) have been studied by neutron powder diffraction down to temperatures of 1.6 K. The compounds crystallize in an ordered variant of the ThMn₁₂ structure type in the tetragonal space group P4/nmm. An ordered 1:1 distribution of Ni and Si on sites 4d and 4e, respectively, corresponds to a modulation vector [0, 0, 1] with respect to the space group I4/mmm of the ThMn₁₂ structure. TbNi₁₀Si₂ orders antiferromagnetically below T _N = 4.5 K with a magnetic propagation vector of [0, 0, 1/2]. The magnetic Tb moments, 8.97(2) /Tb atom at 1.6 K, are aligned along the c-axis. The Ni sites in TbNi₁₀Si₂ do not carry any ordered magnetic moments. The compounds with R = Dy, Ho, Er, and Tm are paramagnetic down to 1.6 K and 3.0 K, respectively.
