Given a continuous P0-function F : Rn Rn, we describe a method of constructing trajectories associated with the P0-equation F(x) = 0. Various well known equation-based reformulations of the nonlinear complementarity problem and the box variational inequality problem corresponding to a continuous P0-function lead to P0-equations. In particular, reformulations via (a) the Fischer function for the NCP, (b) the min function for the NCP, (c) the fixed point map for a BVI, and (d) the normal map for a BVI give raise to P0-equations when the underlying function is P0. To generate the trajectories, we perturb the given P0-function F to a P-function F(x, ); unique solutions of F(x, ) = 0 as varies over an interval in (0, ) then define the trajectory. We prove general results on the existence and limiting behavior of such trajectories. As special cases we study the interior point trajectory, trajectories based on the fixed point map of a BVI, trajectories based on the normal map of a BVI, and a trajectory based on the aggregate function of a vertical nonlinear complementarity problem. 相似文献

We consider nonconforming multigrid methods for symmetric positive definite second and fourth order elliptic boundary value problems which do not have full elliptic regularity. We prove that there is a bound () for the contraction number of the -cycle algorithm which is independent of mesh level, provided that the number of smoothing steps is sufficiently large. We also show that the symmetric variable -cycle algorithm is an optimal preconditioner.

We study the behaviour of a conjugate gradient Uzawa-type method for a stabilized finite element approximation of the Stokes problem. Many variants of the Uzawa algorithm have been described for different finite elements satisfying the well-known Inf-Sup condition of Babu?ka and Brezzi, but it is surprising that developments for unstable ‘low-order’ discretizations with stabilization procedures are still missing. Our paper is presented in this context for the popular (so-called) Q1–P0 element. First we show that a simple stabilization technique for this element permits us to retain the property of a convergence factor bounded independently of the discretization mesh size. The second contribution of this work deals with the construction of a less costly preconditioner taking full advantages of the block diagonal structure of the stabilization matrix. An extended hyperbola function method is proposed to construct exact solitary wave solutions to nonlinear wave equation based upon a coupled Riccati equation. We propose a conceptual framework that leads to an abstract characterization for the exact solvability of Calabi–Yau varieties in terms of abelian varieties with complex multiplication. The abelian manifolds are derived from the cohomology of the Calabi–Yau manifold, and the conformal field theoretic quantities of the underlying string emerge from the number theoretic structure induced on the varieties by the complex multiplication symmetry. The geometric structure that provides a conceptual interpretation of the relation between geometry and conformal field theory is discrete, and turns out to be given by the torsion points on the abelian varieties. 相似文献

A gauge theory in flat space—time, in which the gauge algebra is the (infinite-dimensional) algebra of vector fields on a surface, determines a curved space—time metric. This note deals with some completely integrable examples, concentrating on the N → ∞ limit of the Euler—Arnol'd equations [geodesics on SO(N)].
