The first <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Superscript>-cohomology of some groups with one end

Let p be a real number greater than one. In this paper we study the vanishing and nonvanishing of the first L ^p -cohomology space of some groups that have one end. We also make a connection between the first L ^p -cohomolgy space and the Floyd boundary of the Cayley graph of a group. We apply the result about Floyd boundaries to show that there exists a real number p such that the first L ^p -cohomology space of a nonelementary hyperbolic group does not vanish. Solubility of carbon dioxide in aqueous solutions of sodium chloride: Experimental results and correlation

The solubility of carbon dioxide in aqueous solutions of sodium chloride was measured in the temperature range from 40 to 160°C, up to 6 mol-kg salt solutions and total pressures up to 10 MPa. Pitzer's⁽¹⁾ equations as well as the Chen and Evans⁽²⁾ model were used to correlate the new data. Results are reported and compared to literature data and correlations.     

Synthesis of perfluoroheptanal by ozonolysis of perfluoro-1-octene

Cubane derivatives 1. Synthesis and molecular structures of the esters of 1,4-cubanedicarboxylic acid

An effective method of esterification of 1,4-cubanedicarboxylic acid with alkylsulfuric acids is proposed. The derivatives of alkanols with substantially different pK_a Valus are obtained in high yields. Molecular structures of the esters obtained are confirmed by various methods. The X-ray study showed a remarkable effect of the nature of an alkyl radical on the geometry of the cubane core.Translated fromIzyestiya Akademii Nauk. Sorption characteristics of polyfluorocarboxamides

The dependence of the variations in the differential molar free energy of sorption of polyfluorocarboxamides R_FC(O)NR₂ (R_F = CF₃(CF₂) _i ,i=0 to 5, R=H or Me) on capillary columns on the molecular structure of the amides, the temperature of analysis, and the nature of the stationary phases (OV-101, XE-60, and PEG-40M) were investigated by GLC. The peculiarities of the variation of the sorption characteristics of amides in XE-60 and PEG-40M polar phases, which cause the inversion of the order of retention of the members of pseudohomologous series, were found.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Production of carbon soot with a high content of C60 and C70 fullerenes by electric arc

The effect of the parameters of the electric arc (helium pressure, current and voltage, clearance between electrodes) and of the peculiarities of the setup design (arrangement of electrodes, distance between the arc and the cooling surface, temperature of the soot condensation surface) on the yield of fullerenes has been studied. Reactions of mercury salts with benzo- and tetrafluorobenzobarrelenes

Regiochemistry and stereochemistry of the addition of mercury salts to benzobarrelene and tetrafluorobenzobarrelene have been studied in acetic acid and methanol.
