Cohesive-zone models have been successfully applied to predicting the damage from notches in engineering materials loaded
intension. They have also been used to determine the growth of fibre microbuckling from a hole in a composite laminate under
compression. The usual strategy is to replace the in elastic deformation associated with plasticity or microbuckling with
a line crack and to assume some form of stress-displacement bridging law across the crack faces. This paper examines recent
published experimental data for notched glass-fibre epoxy/honey comb sand wich panels loaded in uniaxial compression. A plastic
fibre kinking analysis and a linear softening cohesive-zone model are used for the prediction of the unnotched and open-hole
compressive strength and the theoretical results are found to be in a good agreement with experimental data.

We calculate the interfacial tension of theN-state chiral Potts model by solving the functional relations for the transfer matrices of the model with skewed boundary conditions. Our result is valid for the general physical model (with positive Boltzmann weights) and at all subcritical temperatures. The interfacial tension has been calculated previously for the superintegrable chiral Potts model with skewed boundary conditions. UsingZ-invariance, Baxter has argued that the interfacial tension of this model should be the same as the interfacial tension of the general physical model. We show that this is indeed the case. 相似文献

The steroid nucleus is well-established as a scaffold for anion receptors. The bile acids are especially useful, providing inexpensive starting points with helpful substitution patterns. This article describes developments since an earlier review in 2003. Included are podand and cyclic structures, uncharged and positive receptors, and various arrays of H-bond donor and other binding functionality. The β‐crystalline form of isotactic poly(propylene) (PP) has been long recognized to have a greater mechanical absorption capacity than the α‐crystalline form. This is of major importance for improving impact properties and crack resistance of injection‐molding parts. Unfilled PP samples together with calcium carbonate‐filled PP samples having various β/α‐phase ratios, with nearly constant morphological parameters, have been investigated from the standpoint of ductile crack propagation and impact behavior. The presence of the β‐crystalline phase turned out to improve both properties. The β spherulites are notably more prone to craze initiation than α spherulites that display a propensity for cracking. Subsequent crack propagation appears to be faster in the latter ones. The plastic zone ahead from the crack tip broadens, and the specific plastic energy increases with increasing β‐phase content. The lower elastic limit of the β phase is likely to promote the early crazing. However, the suspected higher density of tie molecules in β spherulites provides more numerous and stiffer microfibrils. The impact strength of PP is also improved by the presence of β crystals as a result of greater energy‐absorption capabilities. However, filled samples turned out insensitive to the β phase. A discussion is made about the origins of the β‐phase‐induced improvement of the mechanical properties. The possible role of the β → α transition is also explained. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of polyisophthalamides containing phenylsulfonyl groups was prepared from seven aromatic diamines and 5-phenylsulfonylisophthalic acid by the phosphorylation condensation method, and from 5-phenylsulfonylisophthaloyl chloride by the solution polycondensation method at low temperature. When compared to the analogous unmodified polyisophthalamides, the modified ones were found to be essentially amorphous, and they showed better solubility in organic solvents, and slightly higher glass transition temperatures. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the polyisophthalamides containing pendent phenylsulfonyl groups have thermal stabilities similar to the unmodified ones. The results of a comprehensive test program for the mechanical behavior of round concrete specimens confined by carbon-fiber
epoxy tapes and prestressed carbon yarns are reported. Five different concrete batches of compressive strength from 20 to
100 MPa and the confinement of various thickness and pretension level were investigated. The specimens, which were subjected
to monotonic or repeated compressive loadings, showed a nonlinear stress-strain behavior with a significant ductility and
increased ultimate strength, in contrary to the brittle behavior of plain concrete. The limit of linearity on the stress-strain
diagrams of the confined concrete roughly coincided with the ultimate strength of plain concrete. Above this limit, the damage
accumulation and plastic deformations proceeded in the confined specimens. This fact was evidenced by the increasing slope
of deformation diagrams in unloadings and repeated loadings and by the pronounced residual strains. The limit of linearity
could be raised significantly by pretension of the carbon yarns during their winding.
