Collisional, Nonuniform Plasma Sphere Scattering Calculation by FDTD Employing a Drude Model

In a collisional plasma, the collision frequency between electrons and neutrals may be equal to or greater than incident electromagnetic wave frequency. The complex permittivity can not represent the dielectric property of the plasma perfectly used in the finite difference in time domain (FDTD). Drude model is adopted to characterize a collisional plasma. Using a commercial FDTD package, XFDTD 6.0, the electromagnetic scattering of plasma sphere is calculated. By comparison with Mie method, Drude mode is proven to be suitable. Radar cross-section (RCS) of nonuniform plasma spheres and conductor spheres coated by plasma layer are calculated.     

Nonuniform stability properties and perturbing lyapunov functions

In this paper, without assuming the conditions everywhere, we study nonuniform stability properties of differential systems by employing the method of perturbing Lyapunov functions and splitting the given system suitably     

Extending modules relative to a torsion theory

An R-module M is said to be an extending module if every closed submodule of M is a direct summand. In this paper we introduce and investigate the concept of a type 2 τ-extending module, where τ is a hereditary torsion theory on Mod-R. An R-module M is called type 2 τ-extending if every type 2 τ-closed submodule of M is a direct summand of M. If τ _I is the torsion theory on Mod-R corresponding to an idempotent ideal I of R and M is a type 2 τ _I -extending R-module, then the question of whether or not M/MI is an extending R/I-module is investigated. In particular, for the Goldie torsion theory τ _G we give an example of a module that is type 2 τ _G -extending but not extending.

An efficient transient Navier–Stokes solver on compact nonuniform space grids

In this paper, we propose an implicit higher-order compact (HOC) finite difference scheme for solving the two-dimensional (2D) unsteady Navier–Stokes (N–S) equations on nonuniform space grids. This temporally second-order accurate scheme which requires no transformation from the physical to the computational plane is at least third-order accurate in space, which has been demonstrated with numerical experiments. It efficiently captures both transient and steady-state solutions of the N–S equations with Dirichlet as well as Neumann boundary conditions. The proposed scheme is likely to be very useful for the computation of transient viscous flows involving free and wall bounded shear layers which invariably contain spatial scale variation. Numerical results are presented and compared with analytical as well as established numerical data. Excellent comparison is obtained in all the cases.     

The ultimate state of polymeric materials and laminated and fibrous composites under asymmetric high-cycle loading

The prediction of the high-cycle fatigue strength of polymeric and composite materials in asymmetric loading is considered. The problem is solved on the basis of a nonlinear model of ultimate state allowing us to describe all typical forms of the diagrams of ultimate stresses. The material constants of the model are determined from the results of fatigue tests in symmetric reversed cycling, in a single fatigue test with the minimum stress equal to zero, and in a short-term strength test. The fatigue strength characteristics of some polymers, glass-fiber laminates, glass-fiber-reinforced plastics, organic-fiber-reinforced plastics, and wood laminates in asymmetric tension-compression, bending, and torsion have been calculated and approved experimentally. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 44, No. 1, pp. 87–102, January–February, 2008.     

A new gravitational model for dark energy

A new gravitational model for dark energy is presented based on the model of de Sitter gauge theory of gravity.In the model,in addition to the cosmological constant,the homogeneous and isotropic torsion and its coupling with curvature play an important role for dark energy.The model may supply the universe with a natural transit from decelerating expansion to accelerating expansion.

THE DYNAMIC BUCKLING OF AN ORTHOTROPIC CYLINDRICAL THIN SHELL UNDER TORSION VARYING AS A POWER FUNCTION OF TIME

The subject of this investigation is to study the buckling of orthotropic cylindricalthin shells under torsion,which is a power function of time.The dynamic stability and compati-bility equations are obtained first.These equations are subsequently reduced to a time dependentdifferential equation with variable coefficient by using Galerkin's method.Finally,the critical dy-namic and static loading,the corresponding wave numbers,the dynamic factors,critical time andcritical impulse are found analytically by applying the Ritz type variational method.Using thoseresults,the effects of the variations of the power of time in the torsion load expression,of theloading parameter,the ratio of the Young's moduli and the ratio of the radius to thickness onthe critical parameters are studied numerically.It is observed that these factors have appreciableeffects on the critical parameters of the problem in the heading.
