Asymptotic expansions of the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function

The Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function Φ(z,s,a) is considered for large and small values of a∈C, and for large values of z∈C, with |Arg(a)|<π, z∉[1,∞) and s∈C. This function is originally defined as a power series in z, convergent for |z|<1, s∈C and 1−a∉N. An integral representation is obtained for Φ(z,s,a) which define the analytical continuation of the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function to the cut complex z-plane C?[1,∞). From this integral we derive three complete asymptotic expansions for either large or small a and large z. These expansions are accompanied by error bounds at any order of the approximation. Numerical experiments show that these bounds are very accurate for real values of the asymptotic variables.

Nonparametric estimation of distributions with categorical and continuous data

In this paper we consider the problem of estimating an unknown joint distribution which is defined over mixed discrete and continuous variables. A nonparametric kernel approach is proposed with smoothing parameters obtained from the cross-validated minimization of the estimator's integrated squared error. We derive the rate of convergence of the cross-validated smoothing parameters to their ‘benchmark’ optimal values, and we also establish the asymptotic normality of the resulting nonparametric kernel density estimator. Monte Carlo simulations illustrate that the proposed estimator performs substantially better than the conventional nonparametric frequency estimator in a range of settings. The simulations also demonstrate that the proposed approach does not suffer from known limitations of the likelihood cross-validation method which breaks down with commonly used kernels when the continuous variables are drawn from fat-tailed distributions. An empirical application demonstrates that the proposed method can yield superior predictions relative to commonly used parametric models.     

ON INTERACTION OF SHOCK AND SOUND WAVE （I）

This paper studies the interaction of shock and gradient wave (sound wave) of solutions to the system of inviscid isentropic gas dynamics as a model for the corresponding problems for nonlinear hyperbolic systems. The problem can be reduced to a boundary value problem in a wedged dormain, By using the method of constructing asymptotic solutions and Newton‘siteration process it is proved that if a weak shock hits a gradient wave, then the grandient wave will split into two gradient waves, while the shock continuses propagating. In this paper the author reduces the problem to a standard form and constructs asymptotic solution of the problem. The existence of the genuine solution will he given in the following paper.     

受压矩形截面柱在塑性阶段的缺陷敏感性分析

对加载到塑性阶段的矩形截面柱，本文研究了几何缺陷对屈曲的影响，在分析中考虑了弹性卸载的影响，求出了荷载、缺陷大小及分叉模态幅值之间的精确渐近关系式，结果表明在塑性阶段最大承载力对小缺陷非常敏感，但当缺陷大小达到某一值后，可能不存在最大载荷。
