The heats of solution at 25°C for a number of hydrocarbon gases are reported as measured by a calorimetric method. There is excellent agreement between the standard enthalpy changes of solution measured calorimetrically and those derived from high precision temperature dependent solubility measurements. However the calorimetrically determined standard enthalpies of solution of a number of gases are greatly improved over values obtained from low precision temperature dependent solubility measurements. A method is presented to readily estimate the standard errors in the standard enthalpy change for any process derived from the temperature dependence of the equilibrium constant for the process. Comparison of the standard enthalpies and entropies of solution of hydrocarbon gases in water shows that the standard free energies of solution for all hydrocarbon gases investigated are dominated by unfavorable entropy contributions. A strong linear correlation between the standard entropy of solution and the number of hydrogens in the hydrocarbon molecule is found. This correlation suggests that the hydrocarbon hydrophobic effect is regulated by the number of allowable configurations of a water molecule in contact with each C–H group. 相似文献

Analyses of hydrocarbon fractions from different areas of the marine environment are described to illustrate the possibilities and limitations of high resolution gas chromatography (HRGC) in the analysis of environmental samples. Examples are given of dissolved, particulate, and sedimentary hydrocarbons and organochlorine compounds; the importance of an adequate sampling of the marine environment is stressed. HR chromatographic profiles obtained in two columns of low and high polarity (SE-52 and PEG 20M) permit the sources and transport pathways of both natural and anthropogenic hydrocarbons to be traced. Analysis of tissues of marine mammals, which metabolize or excrete many of the biogenic and petrogenic hydrocarbons present in other areas of the marine environment, may provide an opportunity to obtain relatively clean profiles of many anthropogenic compounds of interest. The plotting of mass chromatograms from data compiled by COM-GC-MS remains the most appropriate method for the conclusive indentification of these compounds. 相似文献

In this study, we explore the reactions of coordinated arenes, e.g., hydrogenation, nitration, and bromination, to prepare compounds which are not accessible from conventional organic synthesis. The reaction products formed from reactions with the coordinated and the uncoordinated arenes are compared. Since the introduction of micelles by Terabe et al. (1984), many different species have been employed as carriers for electrokinetic chromatography. As it is not possible to separate uncharged solutes or ions with equal mobility in capillary electrophoresis, these phases are added to introduce or improve selectivity.
This review surveys the application of particles as pseudo-stationary phases. Up to now only very few applications exist based either on polymer particles for the separation of catechols and primary amines or silica-based material. With these particles separations are shown for phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and naphthalene derivatives. Hexane is a toxic volatile organic compound that is quite abundant in gas emissions from chemical industries and printing
press and painting centers, and it is necessary to treat these airstreams before they discharge into the atmosphere. This
article presents a treatment for hexane-contaminated air in steady-state conditions using an internal-loop airlift bioreactor
inoculated with a Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain. Bioprocesses were conducted at 20-mL/min, a load of 1.26 g/m3 of C6H14, and a temperature of 28°C. The results of hexane removal efficiencies were presented as a function of the inoculum size
(approx 0.07 and 0.2 g/L) and cell reuse. Bioprocess monitoring comprises quantification of the biomass, the surface tension
of the medium, and the hexane concentration in the fermentation medium as well as in the inlet and outlet airstreams. The
steady-state results suggest that the variation in inoculum size from 0.07 to 0.2 g/L promotes hexane abatement from the influent
from 65 to 85%, respectively. Total hydrocarbon removal from the waste gas was achieved during experiments conducted using

The oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) in a periodic regime over the SrMnO3 and its derivatives has been investigated. It has been established that partial replacement of the strontium ion by alkali metal ions leads to an increase in both catalytic activity and in selectivity with respect to higher hydrocarbons. Results of using a field spectrophotometer and its appropriate protocols as a surrogate method for an oilfield produced water treatment process is presented. Methylene chloride extractions of the produced water before and after treatment maintained a yellow color pigment that was directly proportional to the hydrocarbon concentration. From this, an absorption spectrum and standard curve were developed. A resultant linear plot of the standard curve indicated that there is an excellent correlation (r2=0.9847) between the varying concentrations and the associated absorbance values at a wavelength of 400 nm. Total n-alkane concentration comparisons between the laboratory GC/MS analysis and the spectrophotometry analysis generated data of similar accuracy and precision at concentrations ranging from 1 to 137 mg/l (alpha=0.05). Linear comparisons between GC/MS and spectrophotometric coefficients were near unity, with the constant being near zero, with a correlation coefficient (r2) of 0.99. Based on this study, spectrophotometry is a complimentary method to GC/MS for determining total n-alkane concentrations in oilfield produced water samples. 相似文献
