Linking Chiral Clusters with Molybdate Building Blocks: From Homochiral Helical Supramolecular Arrays to Coordination Helices

The synthesis of four new oxo‐centered Fe clusters ( 1 a – c , 2 ) of the form [Fe^III₃(μ₃‐O)(CH₂=CHCOO)₆] with acrylate as the bridging ligand gives rise to potentially intrinsically chiral oxo‐centered {M₃} trimers that show a tendency to spontaneously resolve upon crystallization. For instance, 1 a , [Fe^III₃(μ₃‐O)(CH₂=CHCOO)₆‐(H₂O)₃]⁺, crystallizes in the chiral space group P3₁ as a chloride salt. Crystallization of 1 b , [Fe₃(μ₃‐O)(C₂H₃CO₂)₆(H₂O)₃]NO₃?4.5H₂O, from aqueous solution followed by recrystallization from acetonitrile also gives rise to spontaneous resolution to yield the homochiral salt [Fe₃(μ₃‐O)(C₂H₃CO₂)₆‐(H₂O)₃]NO₃?CH₃CN of 1 c (space group P2₁2₁2₁). Furthermore, the reaction of 1 a with hexamolybdate in acetonitrile gives the helical coordination polymer {[(Fe₃(μ₃‐O)L₆(H₂O))(MoO₄)‐(Fe₃(μ₃‐O)L₆(H₂O)₂)]?2CH₃CN?H₂O}_∞ 2 (L: H₂C?CHCOO), which crystallizes in the space group P2₁. The nature of the ligand geometry allows the formation of atropisomers in both the discrete ( 1 a – c ) and linked {Fe₃} clusters ( 2 ), which is described along with a magnetic analysis of 1 a and 2 .     

Kinetic versus thermodynamic control during the formation of [2]rotaxanes by a dynamic template-directed clipping process

A template-directed dynamic clipping procedure has generated a library of nine [2]rotaxanes that have been formed from three dialkylammonium salts-acting as the dumbbell-shaped components-and three dynamic, imino bond-containing, [24]crown-8-like macrocycles-acting as the ring-shaped components-which are themselves assembled from three dialdehydes and one diamine. The rates of formation of these [2]rotaxanes differ dramatically, from minutes to days depending on the choice of dialkylammonium ion and dialdehyde, as do their thermodynamic stabilities. Generally, [2]rotaxanes formed by using 2,6-diformylpyridine as the dialdehyde component, or bis(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)ammonium hexafluorophosphate as the dumbbell-shaped component, assembled the most rapidly. Those rotaxanes containing this particular electron-deficient dumbbell-shaped unit, or 2,5-diformylfuran units in the macroring, were the most stable thermodynamically. The relative thermodynamic stabilities of all nine of the [2]rotaxanes were determined by competition experiments that were monitored by (1)H NMR spectroscopy.     

Solvating,manipulating, damaging,and repairing DNA in a computer

This work highlights four different topics in modeling of DNA: (i) the importance of water and ions together with the structure and function of DNA; the hydration structure around the ions appears to be the determining factor in the ion coordination to DNA, as demonstrated in the results of our MD simulations; (ii) how MD simulations can be used to simulate single molecule manipulation experiments as a complement to reveal the structural dynamics of the studied biomolecules; (iii) how damaged DNA can be studied in computer simulations; and (iv) how repair of damaged DNA can be studied theoretically. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Concentrations of Active Species in the Flowing Afterglow of a Nitrogen Microwave Plasma

Measurements of nitrogen atom density, by means of NO chemical titration, along with an evaluation of the densities of some excited species N ₂ (B, v=11), N ₂ (B, v=2), N ₂ (C, v=0), and N ₂ ⁺ (B,v=0), by means of a spectroscopic study of some bands of dinitrogen, are achieved along the flowing afterglow of a dinitrogen microwave plasma (2450 MHz) for several pressures. The concentrations obtained are in the following range: [N]10 ⁺¹⁵ , [N ₂ (B, 2)]10 ⁺⁹ –10 ⁺¹⁰ , [N ₂ (B, 11)]10 ⁺⁸ –10 ⁺⁹ , [N ₂ (C, 0)]10 ⁺⁶ –10 ⁺⁷ , [N ₂ ⁺ (B,0)]10 ⁺⁶ -10 ⁺⁸ (cm^-3). From a kinetic study of the formation and decay of excited and charged species, an estimation of N ₂ (A, v), N ₂ (X, v, and N ₂ ⁺ (X) densities can be derived: [N ₂ (A, v)]10 ⁺¹² , [N ₂ (X, v6)]10 ⁺¹⁵ –10 ⁺¹⁶ , [N ₂ (X, v12)]10 ⁺¹⁴ –10 ⁺¹⁵ , [N ₂ ⁺ (X)]10 ⁺¹⁰ (cm ^-3 ).     

Transition state geometry in radical abstraction reactions: comparison of interatomic distances in the intersecting parabolas and Morse curves models with quantum-chemical calculations

Interatomic distances in the transition state were estimated for the reactions of radical abstraction: H^· + H₂, H^· + HCl, H^· + CH₄, N^·H₂ + NH₃, HO^· + H₂O, HO₂ ^· + HOOH, and C^·H₃ + SiH₄. The calculation was performed by the quantum-chemical density functional method or coupled clusters method (QCH), as well as by the methods of intersecting parabolas (IPM) and Morse curves (IMM), using experimental data (activation energies and reaction enthalpies). The results of the latter two methods are close to the quantum-chemical calculation and differ only by the increment a: r(IPM or IMM) = a + r(QCH), where a = –4.5·10^–12 m for IPM and a = +1.9·10^–12 m for IMM.     

聚酰胺酸及其接枝衍生物的三阶非线性光学性能研究

设计合成了苯代三聚氰胺与均苯四酸二酐缩聚物, 及不同侧链的p-π共轭缩聚物, 并以量子化学PM3/CIS方法为基础, 利用完全态求和(SOS)公式, 对不同侧链取代的聚酰胺酸的分子进行了几何构型优化, 并计算了其三阶非线性光学系数γ. 研究了不同侧链对聚合物三阶非线性性能的影响. 这些结果对合成具有优良加工性能的三阶非线性光学材料是有一定的指导作用.     

MgFe2O4-Fe2O3纳米粉体的软化学合成及电磁学特性

Nano-MgFe₂O₄-Fe₂O₃ magnetic powders were synthesized by citrate gel under microwave irradiation. The structure，particle size distribution，electromagnetic characteristics of nano-MgFe₂O₄-Fe₂O₃ were characterized by using TG-DTA, X-ray, electronic microscope, nano-size measurement and electromagnetism measurement apparatus。The results show that the product is a mixture of MgFe₂O₄ and Fe₂O₃ with average size of 44 nm, tanδ for the product is 0.265 and 0.610 at frequency of 1.0 GHz and 1.8 GHz respectively.
