An Efficient One-Pot Synthesis of Nitriles from Carboxylic Acids Without Solvent Under Microwave Irradiation

Nitriles were prepared from alkyl and aryl carboxylic acids in dry media conditions, under microwave irradiation. Heating of the carboxylic acid, urea and amidosulfonic acid adsorbed on alumina support in a microwave oven affords nitriles in 20–93% yields.     

Synthesis of Some Novel bis‐Spiro[indole‐pyrazolinyl‐thiazolidine]‐2,4′‐diones

The reaction of 1H‐indol‐2,3‐diones with 1,6‐dibromohexane has resulted in the formation of new 1H‐indol‐2,3‐diones‐1,1′‐(1,6‐hexanediyl)bis in quantitative yields. These compounds have been used for the synthesis of novel [3′‐(2,3‐dimethyl‐5‐oxo‐1‐phenyl‐3‐pyrazolin‐4‐yl)spiro[3H‐indol‐3,2′‐thiazolidine]‐2,4′‐dione]‐1,1′‐(1,6‐hexanediyl)bis via bis Schiff's bases, [3‐(2,3‐dimethyl‐5‐oxo‐1‐phenyl‐3‐pyrazolin‐4‐yl) imino‐1H‐indol‐2‐one]‐1,1′‐(1,6‐hexanediyl)bis.     

Catalytic Oxidative Cyclocondensation of o‐Aminophenols to 2‐Amino‐3H‐phenoxazin‐3‐ones

The catalytic oxidative cyclocondensation of the o‐aminophenols 1a–f was investigated. The oxidants used were air/laccase, H₂O₂/horseradish peroxidase, H₂O₂/ebselen (3), and TBHP/diphenyl diselenide 4. The products obtained were 2‐amino‐3H‐phenoxazin‐3‐one—questiomycin A, its derivative 2b, and cinnabarinic acid and actinocin (2c,d). Substrates with methyl groups at 4 and 5 positions of benzene ring were converted to different dihydrophenoxazinones 2g,h. Compounds having chlorine atoms at the same positions underwent oxidation to planar phenoxa-zinones 2e,f with elimination of one hydrochloride molecule.     

A Practical Knoevenagel Condensation Catalyzed by PEG400 and Anhydrous K2CO3 Without Solvent

Abstract

Knoevenagel condensation of aromatic aldehydes with active methylene compounds under solvent‐free conditions to synthesize arylidene compounds in good to excellent yields using powdered anhydrous K₂CO₃ and PEG400 as catalysts has been described.     

Oxone as a Mild,Inexpensive, and Environmentally Benign Oxidant for the α-Thiocyanation of Ketones

An efficient and direct approach for the α-thiocyanation of ketones with α-hydrogens has been developed using ammonium thiocyanate as a thiocyanating agent and oxone as an oxidant in methanol.     

A Simple,Efficient and Green Procedure for the Knoevenagel Condensation of Aldehydes with N-Methylpiperazine at Room Temperature under Solvent-Free Conditions

Knoevenagel condensation of aromatic, aliphatic, and heteroaromatic aldehydes with active methylene compounds such as ethylcyanoacetate, malononitrile, and cyanoacetamide proceed very smoothly at room temperature by simply mixing the ingredients together under solvent-free conditions in the presence of N-methylpiperazine in excellent yields of the E-configured products.     

Chemoselective Removal of Acyloxy in 1-(Benzotriazole-1-yl)alkyl Esters and Its Application in the Preparation of β-(Benzotriazole-1-yl)alcohols

Mediated by samarium diiodide, 1-(benzotriazole-1-yl)alkyl esters 1 underwent cross-coupling with aldehydes or ketones to afford β-(benzotriazole-1-yl)alcohols 2 exclusively with the selective removal of acyloxy over benzotriazolyl.     

Simple Synthesis of Deuterated Pterosines

Ptaquiloside, a potent carcinogen present in bracken fern, a plant consumed by farm animals, may be detected in traces by converting it into the bromopterosine. A simple synthesis of bromopterosine d₂, to be used as standard in GC/MS or LC/MS analyses, is described.     

A Mild and Efficient Route to 3-Vinylchromones in Aqueous Micellar Media

A simple, mild, and ecofriendly method has been developed for the synthesis of 3-vinylchromones from 4-oxo-4H-1-benzopyran-3-carboxaldehyde (3-formylchromone) by simple Knoevenagel condensation with various active methylene compounds (AMC) in aqueous micellar media in the presence of catalytic amounts of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO). In the case of malonic acid as AMC, the reaction resulted in formation of only Doebner decarboxylated products under the standard reaction condition. It has been also observed that 3-formylchromone derivatives primarily undergo tandem Knoevenagel and Michael reactions in the presence of > 2 equiv. of ethyl acetoacetate to produce benzophenone derivatives, by opening of pyran ring, as the sole product in good yields.     

Activation of Iron (III) and Bismuth (III) Nitrates by Tungstophosphoric Acid: Solvent‐Free Oxidative Deprotection of Oximes to Carbonyl Compounds

Abstract

Tungstophosphoric acid (H₃PW₁₂O₄₀ · 6H₂O) has been used as a catalyst for a simple, rapid, selective, and solvent‐free cleavage of oximes to carbonyl compounds using iron (III) and bismuth (III) nitrates as oxidants.
