Reflection of Surface Plasmon Polaritons by a Corner Reflector of Negative Index Materials

A novel type of corner reflector for the reflection of surface plasmon polariton (SPP) is proposed. The reflector consists of two layers of compensatory media whose permittivity and permeability take opposite signs to that of the corresponding layer of the SP waveguide. By rigorously solving Maxwell's equations, the reflected SPP is proved to exist. The transverse wave vector of the reflected SPP is always antiparallel to that of the incident SPP and no phase retardation is introduced.     

Effects of Spatial Noncommutativity on Energy Spectrum of a Trapped Bose-Einstein Condensate

In noncommutative space, we examine the problem of a noninteracting and harmonically trapped BoseEinstein condensate, and derive a simple analytic expression for the effect of spatial noncommutativity on energy spectrum of the condensate. It indicates that the ground-state energy incorporating the spatial noncommutativity is reduced to a lower level, which depends upon the noncommutativity parameter θ. The gap between the noncommutative space and commutative one for the ground-state level of the condensate should be a signal of spatial noncommutativity.     

e-A深度非弹性散射中胶子辐射振幅的新计算方法

在e-A深度非弹性散射过程中, 喷注穿过冷核介质时, 多重散射诱导胶子辐射会导致对碎裂函数的修正及喷注的能量损失.前期研究中关于计算e-A深度非弹性散射中胶子辐射振幅的两种方法: 螺旋振幅近似和微扰QCD严格计算都异常繁杂. 本文发展了一种新的方法, 可以方便计算出多重散射导致胶子辐射的振幅, 得到的碎裂函数的修正以及能量损失与严格计算的结果一致.     

Electron attenuation lengths in fullerene and fullerides

Using X-ray photoemission measurements, we have determined the attenuation length of C 1s photoelectrons in C₆₀ film to be 21.5 Å with the incident photon energy of Mg Kα radiation. The inelastic mean free path calculated with the TPP-2M algorithm coincides fairly well with the experimentally determined attenuation length, indicating the validity of the algorithm to fullerene and fullerides. The inelastic mean free paths for some fullerides, i.e. K₃C₆₀, K₆C₆₀, Ba₄C₆₀, Sm_2.75C₆₀ and Sm₆C₆₀ are calculated to help the quantitative analyses of the photoemission spectra for these compounds.     

Comment on “The Free Will Theorem”

In a recent paper Conway and Kochen, Found. Phys. 36, 2006, claim to have established that theories of the Ghirardi-Rimini-Weber (RW) type, i.e., of spontaneous wave function collapse, cannot be made relativistic. On the other hand, relativistic GRW-type theories have already been presented, in my recent paper, J. Stat. Phys. 125, 2006, and by Dowker and Henson, J. Stat. Phys. 115, 2004. Here, I elucidate why these are not excluded by the arguments of Conway and Kochen.

On the Zero-Energy-Limit Solution for the Modified Gross–Pitaevskii Equation

The modified Gross–Pitaevskii equation was derived and solved to obtain the 1D solution in the zero-energy limit. This stationary solution could account for the dominated contributions due to the kinetic effect as well as the chemical potential in inhomogeneous Bose gases.     

On the Modified Crystalline Stefan Problem with Singular Data

We study the behavior of solutions of the modified Stefan problem in the plane for polygonal interfaces. We are particularly interested in a solution near a singularity of either the loss of a facet or the breaking of a facet. We establish precise regularity results if a facet disappears. We use them to establish the existence of a weak solution with singular data, i.e., when some of the zero-crystalline-curvature facets have zero length.

A note on continuously decomposed evolving exchange economies

It is routine to demonstrate in the exchange economy framework that small changes of individual preferences and endowments always result in small changes of the derived excess demand functions as one should expect. Though being as desirable for reasons of the consistency of the whole approach, however, a precise proof of the converse direction so far is still open to question. The present paper shows that it is actually true. We use a decomposition method for aggregate excess demand functions developed by Mas-Colell which is derived from the well-known decomposition method developed by Sonnenschein and perfected by Debreu and Mantel. Our result fills in a notorious gap in the line of economic justification usually given for this decomposition, or disaggregation, method in that comparative static analysis would be restricted if the decomposition of excess demand functions would not be continuous.
