The influence of aluminum on the thermal stability of hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) was investigated. HBCD pyrolysis was carried out using thermogravimetric analyzers and a laboratory scale reactor. The identification of decomposition products was based on FTIR and gas-chromatographic/mass-spectrometric techniques. The results obtained confirmed that the presence of aluminum caused a lower thermal stability of HBCD. However, the presence of aluminum also resulted in a significant increase of the char yield and caused the shift towards an exothermic decomposition process. The analysis of the decomposition products showed that the presence of aluminum triggers polycondensation reactions during HBCD thermal degradation.  相似文献

The development of an innovative technology for the pyrolytic conversion of brominated phenols in a reductive medium aimed at product recovery for commercial use is discussed in this paper. Brominated phenols are toxic products, which contaminate pyrolysis oil of wastes from electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE). The pyrolysis experiments were carried out with 2,6-dibromophenol, tetrabromobisphenol A, WEEE pyrolysis oil and polypropylene or polyethylene in encapsulated ampoules under inert atmosphere in quasi-isothermal conditions (300–400 °C) with a different residence time (10–30 min). Optimal conditions were found to be the use of polypropylene at 350 °C with a residence time of 20 min. The main pyrolysis products were identified as HBr and phenol. A radical debromination mechanism for the pyrolytic destruction of brominated phenols is suggested.  相似文献

In the Czech Republic no study on the levels of brominated flame retardants in human milk has been conducted, yet. In the first step analytical method for determination of PBDEs in this bioindicator matrix was implemented. Liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) (hexane, diethyl ether), followed by gel permeation chromatography was employed for isolation of PBDEs. Identification and quantification of PBDEs was carried out by GC–MS operated in negative chemical ionisation (NCI). Two mass spectrometric technologies, one employing quadrupole and the other one high resolution (HR) time-of-flight (TOF) analyzer, etc. were used in our study. Detection limits (LODs) obtained by quadrupole analyzer ranged from 0.02 to 0.05 ng g−1 lipid weight, using high resolution time-of-flight analyzer LODs were significantly lower, ranging from 0.002–0.005 ng g−1 lipid weight, what enabled detection of minor PBDE congeners.

Within this pilot study 103 breast milk samples, obtained from mothers living in Olomouc region, were examined. Ten PBDE congeners were determined. All samples examined till now contained PBDEs residues, the dominating contaminant representing this group was congener BDE 47. In most of analysed samples levels of this compound ranged from 0.2 to 2 ng g−1 of lipid weight. Three exceptionally contaminated samples, containing levels of PBDEs 5–10 times higher than other samples, were found.  相似文献

Capillary zone electrophoresis methods, based on either aqueous and non-aqueous solutions as running buffers and UV spectrophotometric detection, have been developed and optimized for the separation of several halogenated phenolic and bisphenolic compounds, suspected or proved to exhibit hormonal disrupting effects. Both aqueous capillary electrophoresis (CE) and non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE) methods were suitable for the analysis of compounds under study. The separation of the analytes from other 25 potentially interfering phenolic derivatives was achieved with NACE method. Large-volume sample stacking using the electroosmotic flow pump (LVSEP) was assayed as on-column preconcentration technique for sensitivity enhancement. LVSEP-CE and LVSEP-NACE improved peak heights by 5-26 and 16-330 folds, respectively. To evaluate their applicability, the capillary electrophoresis methods developed were applied to the analysis of water samples, using solid-phase extraction as sample pre-treatment process.  相似文献

X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy spectra were collected for three brominated persistent pollutants: 6-bromo-2,4,5-trichlorophenol (BrTriClP), pentabromophenol (PentaBrP) and 3,3′,5,5′-tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBA). The substances were selected to be symmetrical (BrTriClP and TBBA) or asymmetrical (PentaBrP) with respect to the atomic Br positions and to differ in the number of bromine and other halide atoms, as well as their relative positions. The asymmetrical PentaBrP was modelled with special detail as not all bromine atoms have identical coordination environments. The studied substances displayed unique EXAFS spectra, which could be used to determine the molecular structure in fair detail. We conclude that EXAFS spectroscopy is a suitable technique for molecular characterization of the comparatively complex molecules within the class of compounds of brominated organic persistent pollutants. A detailed understanding of the EXAFS spectra of the pure compounds opens up possibilities to study the interactions with soil and sediment matrices by means of EXAFS spectroscopy. The impact of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) on the environment and their potential risk in animal and human health is a present concern. Therefore, existing legislation in the European Union demands that polymers with BFRs are identified and eliminated from the recycling process due to their potential health hazard.In this work, a flow-injection (FI) system coupled to inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was optimized for the detection of traces of bromine in polymers, plastic paints and enamels containing BFRs. Sample preparation requires a microwave-assisted digestion in order to transfer bromine in polymeric samples to solution. After appropriate optimization of the digestion procedure and the ICP-MS detection, a detection limit (DL) of 4.2 mg kg−1 was obtained for synthesized polyurethane standards containing known concentrations of bromine. The precision of the proposed method, evaluated as the R.S.D. of signals obtained for three replicates of polymeric standard BFRs at the normative EU level, was as low as 3.6%.This simple developed methodology was characterized for the screening of bromine in polymeric matrices. The proposed system provides rapid binary yes/no overall responses, being appropriate for the screening of bromine above a pre-set concentration threshold. The unreliability region (UR), given by the probability of false positives and false negatives (set at 5% in both cases), was in the range between 442 and 678 mg kg−1 of bromine (at a cut-off level of 0.1% in BFRs by weight of homogeneous material fixed by the EU normative). Finally, the applicability of the proposed screening system was tested for the reliable control of bromine in different commercial samples including flame-retardant paints and enamels.  相似文献

A simple, efficient, innovative and environmentally friendly analytical technique was successfully applied for the first time for the extraction and preconcentration of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) from water samples. The PBDEs selected for this work were those most commonly found in the literature in natural water samples: 2,2′,4,4′-tetraBDE (BDE-47), 2,2′,4,4,5-pentaBDE (BDE-99), 2,2′,4,4,6-pentaBDE (BDE-100) and 2,2,4,4′,5,5′-hexaBDE (BDE-153). The extracted PBDEs were separated and determined by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The extraction/preconcentration technique is based on ultrasound-assisted emulsification-microextraction (USAEME) of a water-immiscible solvent in an aqueous medium. Several variables including, solvent type, extraction time, extraction temperature and matrix modifiers were studied and optimized over the relative response the target analytes. Chloroform was used as extraction solvent in the USAEME technique. Under optimum conditions, the target analytes were quantitatively extracted achieving enrichment factors (EF) higher than 319. The detection limits (LODs) of the analytes for the preconcentration of 10 mL sample volume were within the range 1–2 pg mL−1. The relative standard deviations (RSD) for five replicates at 10 pg mL−1 concentration level were <10.3%. The calibration graphs were linear within the concentration range of 5–5000 pg mL−1 for BDE-47 and BDE-100; and 5–10,000 pg mL−1 for BDE-99 and BDE-153, respectively. The coefficients of estimation were ≥0.9985. Validation of the methodology was performed by standard addition method at two concentration levels (10 and 50 pg mL−1). Recovery values were ≥96%, which showed a successful robustness of the analytical methodology for determination of picogram per milliliter of PBDEs in water samples. Significant quantities of PBDEs were not found in the analyzed samples.  相似文献

An increasing number of studies use blood obtained noninvasively to monitor organohalogen contaminants; however, blood can be difficult to analyze because of its aqueous nature and high protein content. We compared five methods for extracting polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), organochlorine pesticides, and lipids from serum using National Institute of Standards and Technology Standard Reference Material 1589a PCBs, Pesticides, PBDEs, and Dioxins/Furans in Human Serum. Liquid:liquid (LLE), cavity-dispersed microwave-assisted (MAE), focused microwave-assisted (FME), solid-phase (SPE), and pressurized fluid (PFE) extraction techniques were compared. FME extraction yielded the optimal recovery of internal standards (IS). All methods resulted in similar contaminant concentrations that also agreed with the certified values for SRM 1589a, except for only a few compounds measured by methods other than FME. Based on these findings, the FME method was determined to be the best overall extraction method. One procedural factor was found to affect contaminant concentrations; use of IS carrier solvents that were immiscible with serum (or when the serum was not directly physically mixed with IS) resulted in a 30% underestimation of organohalogen concentrations. Iron (III) acetylacetonate (Fe (acac)) in the presence of triethanolamine (TEOA) was utilized as a novel crosslinking agent for halogenated diene rubber. Following the assumption that the mechanism of the crosslinking bases on the Heck-type reaction mechanism, which requires the presence of a halogen and an unsaturated carbon-carbon double bond, chloroprene rubber (CR) and brominated butyl rubber (BIIR) were utilized as rubber matrices. The results of FTIR spectra analysis confirm the proposed mechanism and indicate that a Heck-type reaction is feasible for performing a crosslinking of halogenated diene rubbers. The use of the Fe (acac)/TEOA curing system results in a significant torque increase during the vulcanization, which confirms the high activity of those compounds. The elimination of halogen from a rubber macromolecular structure or elimination of a basic environment of the crosslinking reaction results in a deactivation of the new curing system.  相似文献
