Polyethylene glycol(PEG-400): An efficient and recyclable reaction medium for the synthesis of novel 1,5-benzodiazepines and their antimicrobial activity

A new series of imidazole-containing 1,5-benzodiazepines have been synthesized by the condensation of chalcones with ophenylenediamine using piperidine in polyethylene glycol(PEG-400) as an efficient and green reaction solvent.The advantages of this protocol are environmental friendliness,easy work-up,high yields,mild reaction condition and avoidance of expensive catalyst. Furthermore,newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity.

Binaphthophospholes 1 are the starting compounds for the synthesis of chiral phosphine oxides 3 or phosphines 4 via reaction of phospholium salts 2 with nucleophiles. The binaphthyl residue acts as a stereochemical probe for monitoring the integrity of the phosphorus stereocenter.

Limitations and Applicability of the Interfacial Shear Rheology in the Study of Monolayer Films at the Air-Water Interface

This article studies the applicability of a new technique in determining the interfacial shear rheology properties of surface active compounds relevant to the petroleum industry. It presents the theory behind the determination of the rheological parameters and the results of tests performed on a set of petroleum related compounds (asphaltenes, tetra-acid model compound, fatty acid, and surfactant). It is concluded that this technique is not mature enough to determine the properties of the studied compounds.     

Facile Preparation of Aryl Sulfides Catalyzed by PEG400 and Nickel without Solvent

A variety of aryl sulfides were synthesized by aryl bromides with thiols, with PEG400 and nickel as catalysts under basic conditions in the absence of solvents. This article reported an easy and convenient method for formation of aryl‐sulfur bonds.     

Towards a field theoretic understanding of NN → NNπ

We study the production amplitude for the reaction NN → NNπ up to next-to-leading order in chiral perturbation theory using a counting scheme that takes into account the large scale introduced by the initial momentum. In particular, we investigate a subtlety that arises once the leading loop contributions are convoluted with the NN wave functions as demanded by the non-perturbative nature of the NN interaction. We show how to properly identify the irreducible contribution of loop diagrams in such type of reaction. The net effect of the inclusion of all next-to-leading-order loops is to enhance the leading rescattering amplitude by a factor of 4/3, bringing its contribution to the cross-section for pp → dπ⁺ close to the experimental value.

KF/Al2O3 and PEG-400 as a recyclable medium for the selective α-selenation of aldehydes and ketones. Preparation of potential antimicrobial agents

2-Phenylseleno aldehydes and ketones were selectively obtained using solid-supported catalyst (KF/Al₂O₃) and PEG-400 as clean, recyclable medium in good to excellent yields. The method was applied in the preparation of highly functionalized 2-phenylseleno citronellal and citronellol, potential bactericide agents. The catalytic system KF/Al₂O₃ and PEG-400 can be re-used for four times without previous treatment.
