The permeabilities of microscale fibrous porous media were calculated using the multiple-relaxation-time (MRT) lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Two models of the microscale fibrous porous media were constructed based on overlapping fibers (simple cubic, body-centered cubic). Arranging the fibers in skew positions yielded two additional models comprising non-overlapping fibers (skewed simple cubic, skewed body-centered cubic). As the fiber diameter increased, the fibers acted as granular inclusions. The effects of the overlapping fibers on the media permeability were investigated. The overlapping fibers yielded permeability values that were a factor of 2.5 larger than those obtained from non-overlapping fibers, but the effects of the fiber arrangement were negligible. Two correlations were obtained for the overlapping and non-overlapping fiber models, respectively. The effects of the rarefaction and slip flow are also discussed. As the Knudsen number increased, the dimensionless permeability increased; however, the increase differed depending on the fiber arrangement. In the slip flow regime, the fiber arrangement inside the porous media became an important factor. 相似文献
We investigated the face-stabilized Open-Hole Compression (OHC) test method for evaluating the effects of fiber waviness on the compression strength of continuous carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites. Temporal evaluations of the load-deformation response, acoustic emissions and optical microscopy are used to understand the failure modes and damage progression in the OHC specimen. The failure modes observed are structurally correlated to matrix failure and kink zone formation leading to fiber fracture. The results show how the resin pocket plays a more critical role than the layup in influencing the initiation of damage in the composite specimens. 相似文献
The technique of microcalorimetry enables one to distinguish between the effects of bactericidal and bacteriostatic antibiotics, despite the well known antibiotic tolerance shown by Listeria monocytogenes. Synergism between anipicillin and gentamicin could not be shown. Despite a fall in viable counts in the kill-kinetic tests aminog1ycosides in inhibitory concentrations do not lead to a corresponding reduction in thermal output. The bactericidal effect of ariipicillin in high doses in the traditional broth dilution test must be regarded as an artefact. 相似文献
Recent data from ARGUS gives an unexpectedly large Bd mixing. Combined with a previous limit on Bd, Bs mixing from MARK II, it appears that while Bd mixing is sizeable, Bs mixing may be non-maximal. This may contradict the three-generation standard model. We discuss the implications of this possibility on the existence of a fourth generation. More reliable information can come from a study of B mixing at the (5S) and is therefore strongly urged. 相似文献
A study regarding the interaction between two consecutive Taylor drops flowing in a heavier liquid in a vertical tube is reported. Under certain conditions, due to the wake of the leading drop, the trailing drop accelerates, leading to coalescence of the two drops. This study was developed using a numerical model based in the Volume of Fluid method in an axisymmetric geometry. The simulations reported in the present work had to fulfill two conditions: axisymmetry (due to the numerical model) and a high enough drop Reynolds number (which is related to the disturbances in the wake of an isolated drop, and thus to the tendency to drop interaction). Relevant dimensionless numbers are used to assess the effect of the acting forces. Detailed flow patterns and drop shapes are provided. Furthermore, the approaching velocity acquired by the trailing drop is analyzed and velocity profiles between the leading and the trailing drop are also reported. In general, the trailing drop shows an accelerating region, followed by a deceleration near the leading drop. The increase of Eotvos number promotes higher accelerations, while the increase in Morton number and viscosity ratio has the opposite effect. By comparison to literature gas-liquid studies, it was also found that interfacial forces promote the shape stability of the drops. 相似文献
